I like taller guys, but the exception proves the rule... But he is taller than his wife, isn't he? I think that Michael is of average height. He is taller than his wife is. Many of us are comparing him with Juliet's height. Elizabeth Mitchell is very tall (5'11") and wears heels to boot, making her seem even taller. I saw her tower over Henry Ian Cusik (Desmond), who is 6 ft tall.

Someone should make a size chart of people on LOST to see who is the tallest. xD
I'm around 5'8 myself.. :U..I think.

Regarding tallness and back problems...
I can't quite comment on that, as a 5'2" man with scoliosis (the back problem actually contributed to my shortness... I probably have another 2 inches or so in there). Heh.
I don't think Michael's particularly short, actually.

He appears to be on the shorter side and generally on the smaller side. I think he's even referred to himself as being on the small side. I also think he lost a bit of weight too from the time he first appeared as Henry Gale and the finale of the third season. So he's even smaller. No. he's not cut from the ideal mode, but then if he were I might not have really paid much attention to him. People whose appearance is too perfect don't get my attention for long.

Off-topic: It makes me somewhat sad that there isn't a 'Small and Short' section in men's stores like there is a 'Big and Tall' one...

Michael seems to be around 5'8". My husband is 5'8", which for me is adequate. I am 5'4". He is a bit on the "thin" side for his age level, which contributes to his youthful looks. And yes, he did seem to have lost quite a bit of weight from the time he played Henry Gale and now that he plays Ben. I guess, LOST is a very active show, and the actors lose weight (except for Jorge). Look at Terry O'Quinn. He really lost a lot of weight.

Off-topic: It makes me somewhat sad that there isn't a 'Small and Short' section in men's stores like there is a 'Big and Tall' one... Guys have no problem being seen in a store with a big sign that says "Big and Tall" but I'm thinking they would have trouble buying stuff in a store with a sign that proclaimed them to be "Small and Short". I think it's a phallic sort of thing. No guy wants to be thought of as "small". I can't think of another way of describing a slight man's figure that would be acceptable. I don't understand why ME is described as small. He doesn't look slight to me. His build appears average and his weight is proportional to his height. The average height for males in the US is 5'9". In 1960 the average height was 5'8". I think he just has too many tall friends. Maybe ME needs to hang around with more women (average height of American woman is 5'4") .

My dad was 5'9" but my brothers over 6' each, and most of my male cousins 6' or round abouts, so I grew up thinking of 5'9" as on the short side. What I find interesting is on the show he looks about the same size as the others (as in the rest of the cast), but when he's at interviews, he seems smaller than the interviewers — and those people are not of the wide-berth variety. And since TV puts 10 pounds on you, as they say, I can only imagine that he is really slight. The show's production team must do something to make him look a little more substantial so he fits in with the other cast members, who I'm sure are quite thin as well. But I still think he is, proportionally slighter than they. Certainly, at 5' 4" and a bit too plump for my size, I would feel, and look, like elephant next to ME. Ah well, what I lack in height … (… I make up for in intelligence and looks, yes, that's it!)

Me too, I'm of ther 5'4 variety. All I can say is thank goodness that more and more shops sell trousers in varying lengths.
