Doesn't it kind of betray Jigsaw/John's whole premise for his murders to include Zep? The movie never showed that Zep committed any sins or indulged in rotten behavior before he was forced into the game, and Jigsaw's entire defense is that he never targets or includes anyone in his games that doesn't have it coming or isn't guilty of something. What was Zep guilty of that led Jigsaw to poison him and include him- the guy did stand up for him when Dr Gordon didn't call him by his name, though he probably didn't hear that. So poisoning Zep to make him commit evil would contradict Jigsaw's whole unusual brand of ethics if Zep wasn't guilty of anything before. Either he ran out of options before turning to him, or the writer didn't catch that plot hole.

Hmm. But Jigsaw is very good at spotting potential in people. Zep is interested in other people, likes to observe them (hence the voyeur-ish screens installed in the doctor's flat). He smokes - he's carrying a packet of cigarettes in his top pocket when you see him as an orderly - hence the slow poison (note that he must also be a potential rebel, or he wouldn't be carrying them in a hospital anyway). And he isn't happy being an underling - he speaks out of turn when the doctor's around, and gets a put-down - hence his game later with the gun and the stethoscope, his turn at a taste of that kind of authority. He may not be a bad guy at heart, but in this case he has no choice. He's an orderly, after all. He is used to taking orders. Besides, as someone at the lowest end of the power chain, if he can't understand that some things are just "the rules," then who can?

Very good analysis of Zep's character, zozie.

I think that after having seen the 3rd one and so now having seen all of them (until they come out with 4 at least) i would have to say that John hates people who sit back and just kinda watch people live life while they don't! Adam took other people's pictures for a living but probably didn't have a girlfriend or any friends, so he was targeted and maybe Zep was just like Adam! So finally I do think we have our answer, John picked Zep because Zep didn't have a life, so to speak. I didn't notice the cigarettes! I guess it's because I'm always looking at his adorable face! Hee, hee!
