I'm totally with him on not being all that buzzed about Hawaii. I am sure it's beautiful and if you have a coastal or island mindset, I'm sure it's the perfect thing. Boy, some of those shots of the mountains just blow me away. But for me, it's the idea that you go what 30, 60 miles and you run out of land? What's with that? I'm used to having a thousand miles any direction before you even have to begin to think about running our of land. It's weird, but I'd feel claustrophobic. In my case, I want the good ol' flat plains where I can see into tomorrow or yesterday, see the seasons pass; feel 10 below in January, 100 in July.

I'm somewhere in between a country boy and a city boy. I lived in a relatively quiet part of the world for a large chunk of my childhood, but it was in a town and not in a rural countryside village. It was a small country too, and we ran out of land quite a lot - the coast was always nearby.
I really don't enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life, but I would hate it when there is nothing within walking distance of my home. I think New York would be a bit busy for me. London certainly was. But I'm not sure Hawaii would be the perfect place for me either.
I think I'll most probably end up in suburbia one day.

Of course, the catch 22 is that if we spot him in NYC before filming on Season 4 is over, then we know what that means for Ben... And here's a little flattering quote from the second article posted on this thread:

I love Michael--there would be no LOST without him... but I sometimes think that saying how he feels about leaving or missing NY because of LOST, how he's not a Hawaii person and stuff like that (as here and there we can notice in his interviews...) might not be a good idea for his character on the show... I really wouldnt like sth bad to happen to Ben... LOST writers may be unpredictable -- cruel sometimes...

Poor darling
I believe times have changed with going in the theatre in the night, people will talk to him, all over the time to be anonymous, poor Michael, again.
Hope he enjoyed the time with his friends in N.Y. and live on this feeling. Sorry he has to suffer on Hawaii.....
best regrets
Martina

aw it must be hard for him to live somewhere like Hawaii when he loves the fast pace of the city. and he has had to be away for quite a few months! just shows how dedicated he is as an actor to endure all that homesickness i kinda know how he feels atm (on a smaller scale lol and kinda the opposite) ive grown up pretty much in the countryside and to be at uni in a busy city i really miss the quiet outdoors. it easier for me tho lol coz i can go home for the weekend
