"I can't." Ben insisted calmly, not flinching from when Zoe banged her fist on the table.
"Can't? Or won't?" Zoe asked coldly.
"I can't." Ben replied calmly. "You're not ready." Zoe walked over to him, grabbing Ben by the scruff of the neck and slammed him against the wall.
"Ben, I think it's about time you give me some answers here. I was more then civilised to you when Jack, Locke and Sayid kept you in that dharma station. Speaking of which - what was the purpose of you bringing Jack, Kate and Sawyer here anyway?" Zoe said dangerously to her.
"Zoe - I have a spinal tumor." Ben replied truthfully. Zoe loosened her grip a little.
"What?" She asked puzzled.
"I have a spinal tumor." Ben repeated. "Jack happens to be a spinal surgeon. I brought him here to fix me." Zoe took hold a firmer grip of him.
"Then why do you need Sawyer and Kate? Why are you keeping them locked in cages? Tell me what's going on Benl, I think I deserve some answers." Zoe continued. Zoe then felt a whack over the back of her head and she was knocked unconcious. Danny was behind her and knocked her out with the side of his gun.
"Thank you Danny." Ben said to him. "Take her back to the room. Until she calms down, and realises who she really is, it isn;'t safe for her to walk among us so freely." Danny nodded, picking Zoe up, hoisting her over her shoulders and taking her back to her cell.

Mel watched as Danny carried Zoe back to her room. She hoped Zoe would come around. Mel thought it would be nice to get to know Ethan's daughter. Maybe one day she could introduce her to William.

Mel looked on in horror at the surgery room. What had started as a calm surgery had erupted into chaos.
Jack had betrayed them all.
Mel knew that she shouldn't be surprised. They hadn't given Jack a reason to like or even trust them. Ben of all people should have suspected the sabotage.
Mel was as close to the glass as she could get. Tom had already stopped her from running down into the actual room. She couldn't take her eyes off of Ben which is why she was the first to see his hand move.
"Oh my God. He can't be waking up!" she said to herself as she pounded on the glass. Jack started to look up at her but then he heard Ben's voice and froze.
Mel froze as well. She knew that he shouldn't have woken up during the surgery.
She watched as Ben talked to Jack, then to Juliet. Finally Tom was at her side.
"He wants to talk to you." he said.
Mel turned to him with wide eyes, "Now?"
Mel worked up her courage and entered the surgery room. She walked next to Ben and took the seat that Juliet just left, "Ben?"
"Mel. Thank you for coming."
"Of course. I've been upstairs the whole time." Mel said as she placed her hand on top of his and tried to avoid looking at the gaping hole in his back.
"I need you to do something for me."
"Okay. What is it?"
"Juliet made a video asking Jack to kill me. I need you to go to her house, search it and bring the video back."
"If you already know she did it then why do you need the video?"
"Trust me. Isabel will need it."
Mel didn't know what Ben was talking about but she nodded. "I'll go, but I don't feel comfortable leaving you like this. What if Jack lets you die?"
"I don't believe he will. He only wanted to give Kate and Sawyer a chance to escape. Once they have, he will resume the surgery."
Mel stood, "Are you sure you want me to go to Juliet's house?" she asked for once not sure of one of Ben's plans.
"I am sure. You should leave now. Isabel will look after William. I will see you soon."
Mel turned to leave, "Goodbye Ben."

Zoe came round, waking up in the same bed as she had before. She stood up, throwing the blanket over her off of her, and stormed over to the glass wall that separated into another room. She banged on it hard.
"HEY! HEY!" She shouted for attention. "LET ME OUT OF HERE - THIS IS - THIS IS FALSE BLOODY IMPRISONMENT!" She leant against the glass with her hands. Why was this happening to her? How was it happening to her? She had treated Ben so differently to Jack, Sayid ect, and yet, now here she was being locked up to her knowledge, for no good reason. She wanted to talk to someone. To anyone. She knew what was happening to her wasn't right, and that Ben was keeping things from her. Hadn't these people learned that being secretive did more harm, more damage then good?

It was the day after Ben's surgery, the whole village had been told to go to the hydra. There was a trial for juliet, weather she should be killed. Sophie had heard what had happend to Ben, been used as a hostage. She didn't care for the trial, she just wanted to make sure Ben was fine.
Sophie and everyone else were waiting outside. A man was locked up in a cage with them. She recognised him. He was the man with the tattoos. The one Richard had called Jack. She wanted to go and hit or do something to him, for what he had done to Ben. But she knew it weren't worth it. She saw Tom starting to holla everyone to follow him to where they were gonna have the trial. Sophie was at the back, when she heard a voice.
"Psst, over here" someone whispered. Sophie looked around and saw Alex squatting in a bush.
"Alex?" Sophie asked.
"Come here" she whispered again.
Sophie sneaked over to her.
"Whats wrong?"
"Dad, you want to see him?"
"I do" Sophie replied eagerly
"Good, I know he wants to see you. Apparently you were the first person he asked for, when he woke up after the surgery. Jack said." she said looking over to the cage. "If it helps i'd rather would have you than Mel with us" she sighed.
Alex got up when it was clear to go. "We have to sneak about, people think your in the trial." she said heading to where ben was.

Sophie looked in the doorway. She saw Ben laying on his side. He had his back towards Sophie. She looked horrified when she saw the horrble scar on his back. It didn't look to good, and it didn't look like it was healing well at all. She noticed Mel was with him. She felt sick seeing them together but he was Sophie's man too.
Sophie walked in. Mel looked up not happy seeing her there.
"I'm not here to fight i just want to see him" said sophie as she came in.
"Sophie?" asked Ben. He couldn't turn over to look. Sophie went around him to see his face. "Hi" he said with a grin. Sophie smiled back softly.
"You look terrible" were the first things Sophie said to him. Ben slightly chuckled and glanced back at her.
"And how are you doing? You look well again"
"I am, Ive had Richard, look after me the last few days. He's helped me."
"Thats good." Ben took Sophies hand and held it. He glanced over to Mel. "Would you excuse us Mel?" Mel just looked at him and then gave Sophie a horrible look. "Mel!" said Ben again. Mel got out of her chair and huffed out the room. Alex was standing outside with Mel smirking at her.
Sophie sat down on the chair beside her as she looked at Ben.
"I've promised Jack that i would send him home. I know you been wanting to go. I was hoping you had changed your mind?" he asked.
"Ben theres no point me being here. You have choosen the person you want to be with. I don't want to share you anymore."
Ben was dissapointed in Sophies answer. "Then you can go home." he said with saddness. Sophie smiled, she finely felt free.
"Thank you Ben." She gave him her last kiss. "Theres just one thing i always wanted to know Ben?"
"Whats that?"
"If i had the chance to have a child. Would you of choosed me? I mean if i came to the island and i didn't have no problem of concieving....."
Ben interupted her. "It would of been you" Sophie smiled, tears started to well up in her eyes. She started to chuckle at the thought.
"Whats so funny?" he asked.
"I'm pregnant Ben"

Mel stood by the door of the clinic as she watched everyone make their way to the room where Juliet would be judged. It would be an impressive scene if it wasn't all staged. One big farce to blind Jack to Juliet's loyalties even more. Mel turned and went back into the surgery room.
Sophie had been gone for over an hour and Ben had been quiet since she left.
"Are you going to tell me what is going on or would you like me to guess some more?" she asked as she sat next to him.
Ben looked up at her, "Sophie is pregnant."
Mel sighed, "I should have guessed as much. It was bound to happen."
"Are you not angry?"
"Do I have a right to be?" Mel chuckled, then took Ben's hand and held it tightly.
"You continue to amaze me Mel."
"Ben, this is wonderful news for you but I hope you know not to get your hopes up. If she carries this baby Sophie is going to die."
"She could be different."
"Perhaps, but do you really believe that, deep down? You've hoped every pregnant woman since Annie would be different and their fate has always been the same. It is a tragedy but it is true."
"I told Sophie I was going to send her home with Jack. Once she is off of the island she might be safe."
"Do you really think she is going to leave you now? After this?"
Ben didn't have an answer for her. He patted the spot next to him on the hospital bed and Mel laid next to him. He wrapped his free arm around her and they laid together in silence for a long time.

Mel walked into her and Ben's room to see him sitting up in bed.
"Good morning." she smiled.
"Are you ready to go? We will be leaving to go back to the village within the hour." he asked.
Mel took a deep breath, "I'm not going with you."
"What?" Ben asked surprised.
"I'm going to stay here."
"But, I need you Mel."
Mel went to Ben's side and kneeled next to him, "I know you do and I am sorry. I wish you could see how much this decision is killing me. But I believe it is for the best."
"Why?"
"You are in love with her. I can see it plainly. And while I believe that you care for me, I don't think your feelings are as strong."
"Mel, that's not true." Ben said.
"Isn't it? I've decided to let you go Ben. You need to be with Sophie right now. Spend the time you can with her because soon she won't be here."
"I don't want you to let me go."
A tear fell down Mel's face and Ben brushed it away with his thumb, "I'm sorry." she whispered.
"What about William?" Ben asked.
"In my eyes, he is still your son Ben. I think Ethan would have been happy knowing you would take care of him. We will wait for your return."
"I don't like leaving you here alone."
Mel smiled, "I'll have William and Isabel."
"What if I need you?" Ben whispered sadly.
"If you truly need me Ben, at any time, I want you to radio me. I'll never be without it. If you call, I will come to you."
"This doesn't feel right." Ben said.
"I know." Mel agreed, "But right now it needs to happen."
"I won't be gone long." Ben promised.
Mel nodded. She leaned forward and kissed Ben. When she pulled away there were even more tears in her eyes.
"I do love you." she said and was gone before Ben could reply.

Mel watched impassively from the beach as everyone gather to leave. She saw Tom and Jack carry Ben on his stretcher to the small boat that would take them to the larger one and back to the village. Sophie was right next to Ben and seemed almost confused as to why mel wasn't with them.
Mel had asked Ben not to mention their conversation to Sophie.
Mel kept her eyes on the boats until they were out of sight. Then she made her way back to the Hydra and her rooms. Closing the door behind her she leaned her back against it and sighed. It wasn't until she saw the empty bed that the fect she was losing Ben really hit her.
She sunk to the ground and cried.

"Before you promised to let me go home?" Sophie questioned Ben. "You wouldn't of let me go. If you knew"
Sophie wheeled him up in to his home. She went over to the kitchen and pour herself, and Ben some juice. Jack was checking if Ben was ok, and felt comfortable. He left Sophie and Ben alone, as sophie brought ben his juice.
"Stay with me Sophie. The next few nights, please. I mean.." he wheeled himself to her. "I need to spend time with you before you go."
"You'll just try to convince me to stay. Ive made my choice Ben!"
"No.... I need you" he said sounding desperate. "I need both of you." he said placing a hand on her stomach. "No distractions. Just us" he grinned.
Sophie stood there thinking about it.
"Well?" he asked.
"Ok" she smiled kissing him on the lips.

Four days passed. Four days without seeing Ben. Those were the four longest days of Mel's life.
How could she not have seen what was right in front of her all along? She was in love with Ben and hadn't even realized it.
But it was too late now. She had made her choice to let Ben go. She just prayed it had been to right one.

Mel was cleaning off the desk in her room when she came across an envelope. It had her name on it in Ben's handwriting.
She opened it slowly and read the short letter.
Mel,
I know you believe this is for the best and I will respect that. But you were wrong when you said that you thought I didn't love you. I do, you and William both.
I've left my journal in the top drawer. I think you'll enjoy reading it's contents.

You can't die yet! rofl sorry im in a strop lol i just don't like where its going. rofl im being selfish aren't i i mean i keep hinting that ben is in love with sophie all the way thro. i thought by now they would of been together. but then mel came into his life. i keep having to change things about. rofl i know im being a big silly but i just not enjoying it atm edit: ok i haven't finished. i mean from the very beginning since the rp started i had planned for ben/sophie love story. lol  but its not just happening im sorry im being a cow *go's off in a field to eat grass* |

Well, Mel doesn't have Ben at the moment and I don't plan on her seeing him for a while. I had to throw the journal part in just so Mel's part wouldn't get too boring.
Plus, I am still convinced Ben is a brilliant liar, so who knows if he is being true with Mel or just playing her.
Don't give up. I'm like checking every five minutes to see if there has been a new post!
