Mel was sitting down the beach with Desmond. Jack was standing next to them.
"Really, thank you Desmond." Mel said again.
"Mel, why are you really here?" Jack asked.
"Ben sent me." Mel told the truth.
"Why?" he said.
"Your guess is as good as mine." Mel shrugged.
"He had to have known it was dangerous to send you back here." Desmond chimed in. "Did he not care if you were hurt?"
"I'm not really sure what Ben thinks anymore. I haven't seen him in weeks."
"But weren't you close to him?" Jack asked.
"Yes, but not anymore."
Mel took her pack off her back and opened it. She reached inside and pulled out Ben's journal. "Here." she said handing it to Jack, "This is his journal. It may help you figure out what his goal is."
"Have you read it?"
"Yes, but for a different reason. I don't want to carry those words with me anymore."
"I'll read it tonight before we leave for the radio tower." Jack glanced at Desmond who had been quiet. "I'll leave you two alone for a while. Desmond, you'll keep an eye or her?"
Desmond nodded as he walked away.
They were both silent for a moment.
"You lied to me." Desmond whispered.
"I know I did Des and I am sorry for it."
"I cared for you and you betrayed me."
"I was following orders."
"You could have said no." Desmond said harshly.
"To Ben? That's not as easy as it sounds. Ben and I had a connection, a strong one. I cared for him very much. There isn't much I wouldn't do for him. I left my baby behind to come here Desmond. I didn't want to but Ben asked me so I did. He's not the type of man you say no to."
"He controls this whole bloody island doesn't he?" Desmond asked, throwing a rock towards the ocean.
Mel smirked, "He likes to think he does."
"Listen Desmond." she went on, "I know I lied to you and you have every right to hate me. But you are a good man for protecting me from Sayid."
"Well, I couldn't let him torture you, you're pregnant."
Mel laughed, "That is what he thinks."
Desmond looked over at her, "You are a talented actress aren't you?"

Later that night Desmond was getting ready to leave for the underwater hatch. Him, Charlie, and Zoe would be leaving in the morning.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Mel asked Desmond, who so far was the only person on the beach who had come close to her.
"No, I want you to stay here. It may be dangerous." he said not meeting her eye.
"What does that mean? I can't handle myself?"
"That is not what I meant." Desmon answered stopping in front of her and kneeling down. "As much as I hate to admit this, I don't want you hurt. I'd be worrying about you the entire time."
Mel smiled.
"Jack is taking everyone else to the radio tower in the morning. You should go with them."
Mel glanced across the beach to Sayid who hadn't let her get far from his sight. "I don't think I'll have a choice."

Desmond pulled Mel away from Charlie and Zoe, "Be safe and watch out for Sayid. If you stay close to Jack he won't bother you."
Mel looked down at the small boat they would be taking, "Be prepared for anything you might find in that hatch Desmond. Ben is and always has been a skilled liar. There could be anything there."
Desmond looked away like he was trying to decide something. When he turned back to Mel he kissed her quickly on the lips. "We'll be back soon."
Mel smiled, truly surprised by him, "Bye Des."

Mel was walking over to join Jack when she overheard Sayid and Juliet talking to him.
"We got Sophie."
"We should take her in the opposite direction of the radio tower. He will follow where she goes." Juliet said.
"Wait, did I just hear that you kidnapped Sophie?" Mel cut in.
"What you heard is of no consequence." Sayid aid coldy.
"Fine, but if you think Ben is going to go after Sophie you are wrong."
"Why do you say that?" Jack asked.
"This island is the most important thing to Ben. Nothing means more to him. He is willing to die to protect it."
"Are you telling me he will abandon the mother of his child?" Sayid asked.
"This wouldn't be the first time he left Sophie. He left her for me when he decided I would make him look like a better leader. Trust me, he'll make sure his island is safe first, then he will see to Sophie."
"Why are you telling us this?" Jack asked.
"He never told me not to." Mel shrugged.
"She may be right." Juliet added, "Ben was very close to her. Told her almost everything."
"Then you will take Sophie with you to the radio tower. It makes no sense for someone to take her somewhere else if no one will be following. We can use Sophie for collateral there."
"Okay, that's the plan. Juliet, you keep an eye on Sophie. Don't let her get away from you."
"I won't." she said.
"Mel, you are not to leave my side." Jack instructed.
"Okay." Mel said thinking of what Desmond had told her.
"Yes, we don't want you running of to warn Ben of anything." Sayid said.
Mel smirked, if she knew Ben at all, he already knew what they were planning.

As Jack, Juliet and Sayid were discussing on what to do. Sophie was put in Jacks tent. She noticed Mel walked over to them and gasped. "What is she doing here?" she thought to herself. She saw Jack walk over back towards her.
"I'm sorry this had to be done" he said handing her something to eat. Sophie spotted a gun on Jacks bed. Jack had his back to her, as he was fiddling with something while talking. Sophie grabbed the gun and whack him at the back of the head. She ran out the tent as fast as she could heading into the jungle.
She stopped to catch her breath leaning against a tree. When she heard a clicking noise behind her. She realised it was a gun being ready to shoot at her. As she felt it behind her head.
"Your not going anywhere!" a mans voice said behind her. Sophie raised up her hands. Jack came running over.
"Sayid! Put the gun down!" He shouted. Jack pulled Sophie towards him.
"Told you, she should of been binded with rope!" Sayid replied putting the gun back in his pocket.
"Come on" said Jack taking Sophie back to the camp.

Sophie was back in Jacks tent again this time tied up.
"You know were heading to the radio tower tomorrow. We have a cell phone, some of us our gonna unblock a signal that BEN! had blocked. Once thats done we can phone for help. Get off this island!" said Jack, Sophie sat there not saying a thing. "Wasn't it you who was so desperate to get of the island?" he questioned her. Sophie didn't respond. "Were here to help you Sophie, you have a chance to leave like us. Think about it" as he stood up from crouching down infront her heading out of his tent.

Soph-sorry Mel is so mean!
Mel watched the scene unfold as Sophie escaped from Jack's tent. She laughed thinking it was foolish of them not to tie her up. After they brought Sophie back Mel saw Jack come out of his tent and walk over to her.
"I read Ben's journal last night." he said as he sat next to her.
"You must be a fast reader." Mel said.
"Did he really steal your son from you?"
"Yes he did. But I got him back."
"Where is William?"
"He is being looked after by someone I trust. Where he is doesn't matter."
"You don't trust me?" Jack asked.
Mel chuckled, "You say that like you are surprised. You helped kill Williams father, do you really think I'm going to tell you where he is? I'd say I trust you about as much as you trust me."
"Fair enough." Jack said, "Ben wrote a lot about you Mel."
"I know that."
"I don't understand. From what he wrote he seemed very close to loving you if he wasn't already there. What happened?"
Mel motioned towards Jack's tent, "She did. Sophie arrived on the island only days before I did. It was long enough."
"You're not very fond of her then?" Jack asked.
"I guess you could say I see her faults and I see how she is bad for Ben. She would no doubt say the same about me. If you are wondering if I am going to help her escape, then the answer is no. I have nothing to gain from helping her."
"Mel, Ben has done all of these horrible things to you. He kidnapped your son, lied to you countlessly and it seems that he has broken your heart. Why are you still following his orders?"
Mel thought for a moment, "There is something about him." she smiled. "He may have taken many things away from me but he has given me something important."
"What is that?"
Mel looked at Jack, "Hope."

"You ready to go?" Jack asked Mel an hour later.
"Let's do it." Mel answered walking next to him.
"Okay, let's head to the tower!" Jack called to everyone.
Mel passed Juliet who was leading Sophie who was still tied up. Juliet sent her a look that said, 'Who would ever have guessed we'd be here?"
Mel shook her head and smirked, ignoring Sophie.
"Mel?" Jack called.
"I'm coming." Mel said and caught up with him.

oh no need to apologise i know sophie and mel dislike each other LOL
Juliet stayed close with Sophie as they headed to the tower. Sawyer stopped telling Jack he was going back to the beach, Juliet stepped in and said she would go with him. Jack agreed, he looked over to Mel and she grabbed Sophie starting tto drag along while they headed to the tower.
ROFL short and sweet.

"Mel, what are you doing here?" Sophie asked as Mel pulled her along.
"Does it matter Sophie?"
"Aren't you supposed to be at the Hydra? Does Ben know you are here?"
"Of course he does."
"Why did he send you here then?"
Mel rolled her eyes, "I would be less concerned with what goes on between me and Ben and more worried about what is going to happen to you."
"Ben will come for me."
"Ben is going to be busy Sophie."
"Then you have to help me!." Sophie pleaded.
"I will do nothing of the sort."
"But you have to!"
"I don't owe you anything. Why should I help you?"
"Because Ben would want you to. I'm pregnant."
"That means nothing to me. Did you think twice about taking Ben away from William?"
"Ben is not William's father."
"He's as good as it. He's the only father William has. I don't know why you are so hopeful anway. You already know all the pregnant women die."
"Juliet gave me something."
"And Juliet is one to be trusted?" Mel smirked.
"You really are horrible." Sophie huffed.
"Only to you, maybe. I told you that you were not strong enough for Ben. But you didn't listen."
"You just wait." Sophie threatened. "When Ben finds out how you have treated me he will be angry. You'll pay for it."
Mel laughed, "If thinking that makes you feel better go right ahead. Personally, I think Ben will be happy to see me."

as they were still heading towards the tower. They saw Ben stand infront with Alex. The group stood at a stand still.
"Hello Jack!"
Sophie smiled as she saw her man again. Ben glanced over seeing Mel was holding Sophie with ropes.

Thanks Mel - Zoe is going to need it!
Zoe, Charlie and Desmond used the cable that lead into the sea to help them locate the hatch. The cable suddenly stopped, and their only option was to go down. Zoe was anchoring the cable to the boat so it stayed into position while she overheard Charlie talking to Desmond.
"If I don't come back - I want you to give this to Claire." Charlie explanined to him. Zoe heard a rustling of paper as he handed Desmond something.
"Charlie - maybe you don't have to do this. Maybe I've been having these flashes because I am meant to save you. Let me go. I'll flick the switch." Desmond replied softly. Zoe span round to face them.
"Thanks Desmond, that would be great of you." Charlie replied. Desmond started to prepare to dive out of the boat when Charlie picked up one of the ores and hit Desmond around the head with it, knocking him out cold.
"What did you do that for!?" Zoe asked. Charlie looked up as she spoke and crawled over to see her. He held her hands as he spoke to her.
"There is something you should know, Zoe." Charlie began to explain. "Desmond - he's - he's had these flashes. Many of them - where I have meant to die - but Desmond saved me. Well - this time, I really do have to die. It's the only way in order to get everyone off this island." Zoe snatched her hands away from Charlie, tears forming at the corner of her eyes.
"Charlie - you can't do that! No death is worth that of getting off this island! Please - you can't do this! I love you - I can't afford to loose you. I don't know what I would do without you!" Zoe replied weeping.
"Yes I do Zoe. I want you to be safe. Claire, Aaron, Desmond. You all deserve to be safe. To be happy. You can't find that on this island." Charlie replied.
"I can! I could be anywhere with you Charlie, and I would still be happy!" Zoe wept, tears streaming down her face.
"That means alot to me Zoe." Charlie replied smiling weakly. "But my life isn't worth saving." Zoe slapped him across the face.
"Don't you talk like that! Don't you ever talk about yourself about that!" Zoe ripped the letter out of her pocket that was from Charlie. "Is this what this is for? I was meant to read it after you died? Is that why you told me not to open it until the switch had been flicked?" Charlie nodded. Zoe glared at him angrily and then ripped up the letter and threw it into the sea.
"Zoe - please. Don't make this anymore difficult then it already is-" Charlie begged.
"You are asking me to sit back and let you die! How can you expect me to do that! I'm not going to let you die Charlie. I don't care how much you think you need that to happen, I won't allow it. I've lost far too many people in my life. Charlie, I am coming with you. I am going to help. We can flick the switch together." Zoe said to him firmly. Charlie looked back at Zoe sympathetically, and didn't say anything for a moment. Zoe could tell he was thinking quick of a plan for things to go the way he originally planned.
"Okay." He replied finally, and he took Zoe's hand. "We will do this together, you and me. We will flick the switch and come back to the boat, wake Desmond up and go back to the beach. I promise." Zoe leaned forward and kissed him passionatly, letting her arms run down his, and she grabbed the ore he held with his other hand behind his back and wrenched it away from him, as she withdrew from kissing him.
"You really don't think I was going to fall for that did you?" Zoe asked coldly. Charlie looked down at the floor, unsure what to say. Zoe slung the ore to the side, took off her shoes and socks and dived into the ocean, and began to make her way down to the underwater hatch. She heard Charlie follow close by. They made it too the hatch, but hadn't broken to the surface yet, and both of them were running out of breath rapidly.
They soon spotted somewhere that they could surface, having not spotted a switch to flick. They broke to the surface and found themselves in the underwater station. Both of them breathing heavily, they managed to drag themselves to the side annd haul themselves up onto the edge. They panted heavily as they allowed themselves to flop on the ground to catch their breath back.
"See." Zoe panted between breaths. "I told you we can do this!" Charlie couldn't believe it.
"I'm - I'm alive!" He excalimed, with a stunned expression on his face. There was a sudden loud bang and they heard fast paced footsteps. Zoe and Charlie sat up, looking across the room, they saw two women, steadily holding guns and aiming them at Charlie and Zoe. Charlie and Zoe exchanged looks of suprise and horror as the two women stared at them, they too, were clearly suprised to see them.

Mel stopped with everyone else when she saw Ben standing in front of them. He noticed that she was leading a tied up up Sophie and tilted his head slightly to the side in question. Mel quirked her eyebrow at him.
Sophie tried to get free of Mel and run for Ben but Mel yanked her end of the rope, "Yeah right." she said as Sophie glared at her.
They all waited as Jack and Ben left to talk to one another. Mel wasn't surprised when Jack drug a bloodied Ben back to the group.
"Ben!" Sophie screamed when she saw the shape he was in.
"Let me go Mel!" she demanded.
"No. Ben's a big boy, he can handle himself." Mel answered.
The group continued to the radio tower. Sophie berated Mel with every step. Mel could tell she would need to watch her back if Sophie ever get free.
When they finally reached the tower Mel stopped, "Here we are Sophie. You wanted to leave the island so badly before, here is your chance." Mel smirked.

"Stay where you are!" One of the women ordered. Both of them blonde. Zoe and Charlie held their hands up. Both of the women came over to them and seached them. They then forced Charlie and Zoe to their feet and provided them with a seat each, tying them up back to back.
"Who are you?" Zoe stuttered as she stared at them in disbelief. One of the women slapped her across the face.
"Shut up! We will be the ones asking the questions!" She snapped. She looked over at the other woman. "Greta - you better radio Ben, let him know what's happening."

"I'm not going anywhere" Sophie snapped back. Looking over to ben who was being tied to a tree. Karl took Sophie off from Mel and moved her nearer to Ben. She watched as Jack, Noami, Kate headed into the tower.
"Are you okay?" Ben looked at Sophie, "Did they hurt you?" he asked.
"I'm fine Ben, i'm more worried about you" she said looking back at him.
"Shutup both of you" Danielle snapped at them.
Jack came out the tower with Noami
"Jack! I know you think you're saving your people, but you need to stop this. It's a mistake."
"The mistake was listening to you." Jack snapped back,
"This'll be your last chance, Jack. I'm telling you. Making that call is the beginning of the end................."

Mel saw Jack and Naomi go into the radio tower. She was about to sit down and wait when she noticed that Karl had taken Sophie over to Ben.
"Great idea Karl." Mel said as she walked over to them all,"Tie them up next to each other so they can plan an escape. Karl, take Sophie away for a few minutes, I want to talk to Ben."
Karl did as she said. As Sophie was being led away she yelled over her shoulder, "Mel, you're a traitor!"
Once she was gone Mel turned to Ben, "Do you think I'm a traitor Ben?" she asked ironically. "Wouldn't that make you a traitor as well since you sent me here?"
Ben smirked, "I don't think you are a traitor. I simply think you are very good at what you are doing."
"It would be nice to know exactly what I am doing."
"Don't worry about that now. You're playing it beautifully. did you have much trouble when you got to the beach?" he asked seriously.
"Only from Sayid. He was ready to torture me until Zoe told him I was pregnant. She's quite a good liar. Then Desmond swooped in and saved the day."
"I thought he would." Ben said.
"I've gotten Sophie quite anrgy with me." Mel laughed.
Ben looked across the clearing to where Sophie was with Karl, "Will you help her escape?" he asked.
"No, I won't. But you already knew I would say that."
"Yes, I did. She was foolish to go out into the jungle alone. I was foolish to let her."
"Well, I guess you are both fools then Ben. What do you want me to say to that? I couldn't care less what happens to that girl."
"Have I really hurt you that much?" Ben whispered.
Mel moved closer to him, "I read the end of your journal Ben. You said you felt like you were abandoning me at the Hydra. Well, I felt, still feel, abandoned."
Ben looked down.
"I'm sorry Ben, but I can't help Sophie. She's on her own." Mel said as she turned and walked away from him.

jack went untied sophies arm's from the ropes and freed her.
"What are you doing you can't trust her!" Mel said, jack ignored her. "She''l just try to set Ben free when you not looking" she snapped.
"Just like you then!" jack turned to her. Suddenly John showed up throwing a knife at naomi's back. She fell to the ground.
"John" screamed Jack. John pulled out a gun aiming at Jack.

"Do it John! Shoot him! Do what you need..." But danielle hit him to knock Ben out before he can finish.
"Ben!" Sophie squealed running over to him. She glared at Danielle. She tapped Bens face gently, trying to wake him up.

Mel picked up Naomi's phone that had dropped to the ground when John killed her. She ignored John and his gun and walked over to Jack.
"I wasn't letting Ben go." she said and thrust the phone into his hands before she turned and walked away.

Zoe and Charlie remained tied up back to back while the two women Bonnie and Greta locked themselves away in another room. Desmond suddenly surfaced into the dharma station.
"Desmond!" Charlie exclaimed, using the chair to try and swivle round, Zoe now able to see him. Desmond splashed to the side and climbed out.
"Zoe, Charlie, are you alright? What happened?" Desmond asked.
"Are they talking to someone?" Zoe heard them say.
"Desmond - hide hide hide hide!" He shouted across to him. Desmond turned and saw a locker he could hide in. He wrenched the door and shut it just in time as Bonnie and Greta emerged.
"Who were you talking to?" She demaned from them.
"What are you talking about? We weren't talking to anyone." Charlie replied innocently.
"Yeah - apart from each other." Zoe replied coldly. Bonnie continued to walk around the station, looking into the water and all around.
"So what did Ben have to say then?" Zoe piped up as Bonnie neared the locker closet. Bonnie stormed over to her and hit her forehead, knocking her head back into Charlie's.
"Ow." They both said simultaniously.
"Shut up."Bonnie said to them coldly. Bubbles started to form from the water, and someone in a wet suite emerged. Bonnie pointed her gun at the mystery person, ready to shoot. He emerged from the water and took of his hood of the suite, revealing himself.
"Mikhail?" Bonnie asked in suprise, her head tilted to one side.

Ben woke up looking up he noticed Jack had made a call, devestation was on his face, where everyone else was cheering.
Sophie was still next to Ben. Wanting to cry at the state he looked. But knew she had to stay strong for him. She held his hand and whispered.
"I'm staying with you."
