Zoe stayed sat by Charlie's side, reading his letter, rotating his ring in the palm of her hand.
Hey Zoe. I gave this to Desmond in case you ripped up the original copy. I had a feeling you might rip it up after I told you what had to be done to get you all rescued. I just hope you can understand they I really had to do what I had to do.
Anyway, moving on to what I really wanted to say. Zoe, I love you, and I really wish I didn't have to go, but I know it was for the best. When you all get rescued, I want you to go visit my brother. He lives in Australia, Sydney. He shouldn't be hard to find. You know his name. Liam Pace. He's in the book. I need you to tell him everything that has happened, and I need you to tell him I forgive him. Please do this for me, you have no idea how much it means to me.
Also, I need to talk to you about Claire -
Zoe was still reading the letter when she heard rapid voices approaching in her direction. She looked up swiftly and saw Ben with Sayid, Hurley, Sawyer, Bernard, Jin and Juliet. She stood up upon their approaching and stuffed the letter in her pocket.
"What - what are you doing here? What's happened?" Zoe asked curiously, standing in front of where Charlie lay.
"Jack made a mistake." Ben replied, looking suprised to see her. "He made the call to Niomi's boat. Now we are all in very deep trouble. As much as whether your people like it or not, we are going to have to join together and fight to protect the island." Zoe looked at Ben coldly.
"That's right Ben. You would do anything to protect this island wouldn't you? Even have me killed?" Zoe snapped. Sayid looked at Ben sharply.
"That's not true." Ben lied looking back at her. "Where did you get an idea like that?" Zoe looked deep into his eyes, knowing he was lying, but she knew she couldn't reveal him for what he had done just yet. Not until he was in front of the rest of his people. How he had told Mikhail to kill them all, including her, Bonnie and Greta. Mikhail sacrificing himself as it was the only way for him to carry out his orders.
"Doesn't matter." Zoe replied finally, glaring at Ben. She looked over to Hurley and ran over to him, hugging him tightly and began to cry. "Hurley, a terrible thing has happened!"
"Woah, dude. What's up?" Hurley asked. Zoe turned to look back at Charlie, nodding towards him and everyone looked.
"No." Hurley replied. "No, no, no, no, no! Not again!" Hurley screamed and ran over, collapsing by Charlie, and began to cry too. Zoe walked over to him slowly, and hugged him, her tears refusing to stop too. Sayid looked at Ben.
"Are you responsible for this?" He asked dangerously, glaring at him.
"If I lied or told you the truth, you still wouldn't believe me Sayid, so why bother telling you?" Ben replied. Sayid looked over to Hurley and Zoe, Jin and Bernard had now gone over to comfort them too, Sawyer shaking his head in disbelief and Juliet giving Ben a significant look.
"We need Jack here." Sayid said and then turned to look at Ben. "I guess we'll have to trust you'll lead us the right way to him and not lead us into a trap?"

Mel led Jack and the others toward the village.
"Why did you help us?" Jack asked after they had been walking a few hours.
Mel looked at him and cracked a smile, "I haven't a clue."
"For someone who is supposed to be our enemy you seem to be more on our side then your own."
"I'm not sure that I'm on anyones side Jack. I just want to get home to the Hydra and to my son."
"I understand." Jack said then paused, "Hey, who is that?"
Mel looked in the direction Jack was. "That would be Sayid."
Sayid was marching towards them followed by Desmond, Hurley, Zoe, Juliet, Sawyer, Bernard, Jin and shockingly, Ben.
Mel passed right by everyone else and went straight to Ben. When she reached him she punched him fully in the jaw.
"You coward!" she exclaimed and everyone watched her, "Is that your plan from now on? Run off with your girlfriend when there is trouble and leave me to clean it up?"
"Hello Mel." Ben said rubbing his jaw. "If it's any consolation it looks like you suceeded."
"Whatever." she said turning away from him. She walked back over to Jack and Sayid, "Let's go. We're nearly to the village."

Zoe allowed herself to fall back from the rest of the group, preparing herself to drop out unoticed. She didn't want to come with everyone else to go and find Jack and the others, she had wanted to stay with Charlie, but she knew it would have been useless trying to protest against seven people, particuarly when one of them was meant to be her boss. Everyone started to walk, and Desmond tried to stay beside her.
"Are you okay?" Desmond asked, seeing how upset she was.
"What do you thin?" She snapped. "Why don't you run ahead? I can't stand the sight of you at the moment." Desmond looked at her hurt, but didn't say anything else, and he pressed on through the group, walking over to Hurley to talk to him while Zoe slyly hung back even more and then blended herself into the jungle. Once everyone was out of sight she made her way back to the beach. She knew deep down too that she didn't want to be the one to break the news to Claire. She was useless in these situations, and was sure Hurley would be better at it then her.

"John can we stop please, i need to rest" sophie said sitting down.
"Sure." said john he sat down next to her, opening up his backpack and taking out canister he opened it and offered it to sophie.
"Thank you" she said as she gulped down some water, she passed it back to john for him to drink. "I hope ben is ok..." she sighed.
"I'm sure Ben can handle himself" said john putting the canister back in the backpack.
Suddenly they heard a gun shot. Both looking at each other with horror. "Did you that?" she asked. John stood up looking around them. A shot went off again a bullet went flying by john hitting into a tree. He pulled Sophie up.
"C'mon!" he said making her run.
Sophie ran and ran and ran, until she was breathless she looked back and John wasn't behind her. She hid in some underbush panting. "John" she whispered. But there was nothing.

By nightfall they had reached the security fence.
"Is it on?" Sayid asked.
"That's a good question. Ben?" she said turning towards him.
Ben sighed at Mel's coolness towards him, "No, the fence is not activated."
"Then you won't mind going first then will you?" Sayid said pushing Ben to the fence.
Ben took a look at Mel before walking through the pylons. When he reached the other side without being harmed she and the others followed.
As they walked Mel and Ben broke off slightly from the others.
"I need to talk to you." Ben told her.
"About what?" she said quickly without looking at him.
"I understand that you are angry with me."
"You ran Ben. Like a coward. I thought more of you than that."
Ben shook his head, "My hands were bound and I needed to help Sophie escape."
"Don't you dare talk to me about her! I don't even want to hear that name Ben."
"Why do you dislike her so?" he asked.
Mel shrugged, "My reasons are my own and I think I am more than justified."
"Okay, I won't mention her around you."
"Good. Are you going to tell me why you sent me to the beach now?" Mel asked as she stopped and looked at him.
"I knew you could suceed where I had failed. Look at them." Ben motioned towards the others, "They followed you here. We all must work together to protect this island now and I knew you could make that happen."
"You have such faith in me." Mel sighed.
"You have proven yourself repeatedly." Ben said taking her hand.
"I believe the only thing I have proven is that you have turned me into your replacement for Ethan."
"What do you mean?"
"Ethan was your right hand. When you needed something done, he saw it through. Even if it meant harming people in the process. That is what I have become." Mel said through tears.
"You are incredibly strong Mel. You always knew as well as I that you were the best match for me in all manners. Unfortunately that cannot be."
"So you use me for the next best thing?"
Ben wiped a tear from her cheek, "I trust you Mel. I need you by my side to help me protect this island. Will you continue to help me?"
Mel knew she was powerless to say no to him so she nodded as she began to cry harder and fell into Ben's arms.

"John!" Sophie whispered again. Hearing nothing she popped out from the bushes looking around. She couldn't see anyone and felt safe enough to carry on walking. "I hope john is ok" she thought to herself. Not having no clue where she was going. she carried on going straight ahead.
Sophie reached part of the beach she decided to follow it along she might reach the docks. She even thought she would be more safer there than in the jungle itself.
It was nightfall and it was hard to see where she was going with know fire torch. She decided it was best to stay put till light had come. Sitting down near a tree she rested up against it. Stroking her stomach looking "I guess its just me and you now" she sighed.
"Not excatly!" someone replied behind her. Sophie jumped up frightened as a man stood behind her. He grabbed her knocking her out.
Sophie woke up finding herself in the village the man noticed she was awake and took the gag of her.
"Your friends are coming anytime now! You stand here" he stood behind so they couldn't see him. Holding a gun to her back.
"Theres more of them than you!"
"Shutup!" he snapped pushing the gun in her back.

Zoe arrived back at the beach, heading straight for where she had left Charlie. She gasped when she saw he wasn't there. She went over to the spot where she had left him, and started to dig at the sand, but she knew it was useless.
"Zoe?" Came a voice from behind her that made her jump. She turned and saw Charlie standing above her from where she was knealt in the sand.
"Charlie?" She replied in disblief, tears pricking in the corner of her eyes. "What - I - you're, you're dead!"
"Well, that can't be right." Charlie replied smiling, raising an eye brow. "I'm standing right here, aren't I?" Zoe stood up and hugged Charlie tightly.
"But Charlie - you - you drowned. We both saw. I tried to bring you back - but it didn't work. Desmond-"
"Shhh, shh, there now, I'm fine Zoe, just like I promised." Charlie replied hilding her tight into her arms. He then pushed her away at arms length so he could look into her eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked concerned.
"Yeah, I am now." She replied weakly and then whispered softly. "Promise me, promise me you won't ever do anything as dangerous as that again." Charlie hugged her again.
"I promise Zoe." Charlie replied.

"Sophie?" said Ben noticing her at the village. "What are you doing here? wheres john!"
"I.......I dunno" she replied. The man pushed the gun at her back.
Ben looked at her funny. Sophie mimed the words help and moved her eyes at an angle for him to notice. Sayid looked at her and noticed someone was behind her.
"Keep talking to her" he whispered to ben.
"What do you mean you don't know?" he asked.
"He just left me. So i.... came here!" she said, sounding nervous. Sayid snuck around, the man noticed quickly standing up. Sayid dived on him and pinned him to the ground. Both of them fighting for the gun the man held, Sophie started to run over to ben as jack and sawyer went to help sayid. But then was a gun shot. Sophie stood still frozen, looking down to her stomach as she saw blood coming from, her eyelids went as she collasped on the floor.
"SOPHIE!" ben yelled running over to her.
Sayid knocked the guy out grabbing his gun and tying him up.
Jack rushed over to Ben and where Sophie layed on the floor.

Zoe walked with Charlie along the beach, hand in hand.
"It worked you know." Zoe said to him softly. "The switched. We called rescue." Charlie didn't reply.
"Yeah, but now we have a problem with Niomi not being part of Penny's boat." Charlie replied. "God only knows who we called." Zoe nodded.
"What are we going to do?" Zoe asked.
"Catch up with everyone, find out what's going on." Charlie replied. "Do you know where they went? Are they still at the radio tower?"
"No, they've headed for the village." Zoe replied. "I know how to get there."
"Lets go then" Charlie replied smiling, and bent down to Zoe's level and kissed her on the cheek.

Okay, super mean part coming up. I love ya Soph! Gosh, since when did my character turn into such a b***h? ;D
Mel watched without emotion as Jack and Ben knelt at Sophie's side. The blood was spreading quickly.
She shook her head in disbelief and walked over to the man Sayid had tied up. She saw Sayid was ready to use his interrogation techniques on him.
"Hold on Sayid." she said motioning for him to join her.
"What is it Mel?" he asked.
"Look at that guy. Do you really think he is going to respond to you beating him? He looks meaner than you."
"We have to try. We must know who he is." Sayid pushed.
"I've got a pretty good idea who they are. Look, head over there for a few minutes and let me talk to him."
"I don't" Sayid began.
"Yeah, yeah, you don't trust me. You're going to have to deal with that, over there." Mel said pointing away from the man.
Sayid huffed and walked away.
Mel looked around to make sure that no one was close before she walked over to the man and knelt down to meet his eyes.
"Hi." she said with a smile. "What's your name?"
The man didn't answer her, he only glared back.
"Fair enough." Mel shrugged, "I'm Mel."
When he still didn't reply she went on, "I don't think I can speak for everyone one else," she said waving her hand towards the group who were still focused on Sophie, "But I just want to say thank you for shooting her. You just made my life a lot easier."
The man finally acted like he registered what she was saying. He raised his head and looked at her quizically, "What?"
Mel winked at him, "You heard me."

ahahaha funny. honest hun don't worry LOL love you too  "Can you help her?" Ben asked jack worried. "Ben......" sophie said touching his hand, Ben grabbed her hand. "Sophie, don't leave me......stay with me!" he begged, trying to hold his emotions in. Jack swooped her up in her arms, "Juliet, i'm gonna need you" he said taking Sophie into one of the houses. Juliet when off in another dierection.... Jack layed sophie on a table. He grabbed a towel and placed on the shot wound to stop the bleeding. Sophie was feeling weaker, and weaker. Juliet rushed in with a medical bag, "It's Ethans things, it may help" "Please save her" Ben pleaded still holding her hand. "I do what i can......." jacks said knowing sophie may not survive. |
