Sophie was walking behind John in the jungle. She was struggling to keep up with him. She felt weak, her eyelids falling heavy on her.
"John.....i don't fe....."
John turned around as he heard a thud behind him. Seeing Sophie collasped on the floor. He rushed over to her. Tapping her cheeks.
"Sophie?" She stirred a little her eyes flickering. "Hey......" said john trying to wake her.
Sophie started to mumble something as john moved nearer to listen, "Mel....." Sophie getting weaker. "Shes....." before sophie could finish she went out cold.
John looked at her puzzled. He then grabbed her swooping her over his shoulder. Heading towards the village

Ethan looked in relief as Jack and Ben ran into the house.
"Quick, help me get her to the kitchen table!" he said.
"What happened? I heard a gun shot." Jack asked.
"It was an accident." Ben said quickly.
"You shot her?" Jack exclaimed.
"The shot was meant for me. Darling woman, she jumped in front of the bullet." Ethan said as he ripped Mel's shirt open to reveal the wound.
Ethan noticied Zoe staring in shock from the doorway. "Zoe good, I need you to do something for me. I need you to go to my house and get my medical kit. It should be in the closet in the hallway. Can you do that?"
Zoe stood silent as she watched blood pool around Mel's abdomen.
"Zoe!" Ethan yelled and she looked up. "If we don't get that bag, she will die."
Zoe nodded and ran for Ethan's house.

John reached the village. People noticed him carrying Sophie. Richard was one of them and ran over.
"What happened?" he asked helping to carry her.
"I dunno. She just collasped. The last thing she said was Mel"
Richard looked at him funny. "C'mon lets take her to mine."
They carried her to Richards house and placed her on the bed. Richard felt her head. She was hot with sweat trickling down her. She groaned a little.
"Should we get Jack?" John asked.
"No he's kinda in situation right now."
"Oh?"
"Mel shes just been shot....."
"Ben. It was an accident......." Sophie mumbled, through her sleep. Richard turn to look at John.
"Tell me you heard that too?" he asked. John nodded. "Sophie?" Richard asked. But Sophie was out of it. "Will get Jack later to check on her. Right now she needs rest."

Zoe returned to Ben's house with Ethan's bag, and gave it to Ethan. She then walked over to Ben.
"Ben, I think she should give them some space." Zoe said to him.
"No! I can't!" Ben replied flatly.
"It will be easier for them, and less pressurising." Zoe said to him, giving him a meaningful look. Then Ben understood.
"Okay. Let's sit on the gazibo, but not for long." He replied. "I need to be by her side." Zoe nodded in understanding. They both walked outside, along one of the paths and upto the gazibo. They sat down, and Ben began before Zoe could.
"So how...?" He asked.
"Never mind about that right now. John will explain." Zoe replied calmly, before adding in a stern tone. "What the hell were you thinking in trying to shoot Ethan? In front of Mel? This is how the wrong people get hurt Ben, you should have known better!"
"Please, it's bad enough without you making me feel more guilty." Ben replied sadly, and he was telling the truth, Zoe could see the guilt in his eyes.
"It's okay, that's not what I am here to talk about. I'm here to offer to do something for you..." Zoe replied.

Ben and Zoe walked back to his house, and watched from the open room of the living room into the kitchen as Jack and Ethan were trying their best to help Mel. Ben was white in the face now. Zoe took his hand and squeezed it supportingly.
"Don't worry. Jack is a great doctor. He'll save her." She said to him reassuringly. Ben didn't respond, but she knew that she was right, afterall, you only had to look at his past paitents to know.

Juliet came into the house. "How is she?" she asked Ben.
"We have two of the best surgeons in the world working on her." Ben said ironically.
"You're right Ben, they are the best. They will save her." Juliet said placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Jack, can you clear some of this blood?" Ethan asked. "I'm almost to the bullet."
"Got it." Jack said as he grabbed some gauze.
"You're not going to die baby." Ethan said to an unconscious Mel. "You're not, I'm going to save you."

Zoe stood up and left the house, satisfied that Juliet would do a better job then she would at comforting Ben while Mel was being operated on. Zoe took a few steps outside the house, closed her eyes and titled her head upwards, and let out a heavy sigh.
Moments later, she walked along one of the paths across the village, and Hurley came over to her.
"Is everything all right?" He asked. Zoe nodded.
"I - I think so. Hurley, where is Luke?" She asked.
"Er...he went for a walk." Hurley replied.
"Is he okay?" She asked.
"Um...he probably will be once he sees you are." Hurley replied awkwardly. "He didn't say when he was coming back."
"Oh ok." Zoe replied vaugley. "He'll be okay, he has a thing for personal space, from what I remember him in our childhood."
"Oh, I thought you should know. John came back here to the village, Sophie in his arms. They went to Richard's house." Hurley informed her.

Richard came into Bens house.
"Ben, can i have a word?"
"Can't it wait!" he snapped back.
"No, no it can't"
Ben went outside with richard. closing the door behind him. "Well?"
"Sophie. Shes back....."
"Where?"
"In my house. Shes collasped out in the jungle. Shes really weak. But somethings happening to her. - She special Ben!"
"Whats happening to her?"
"She knew you shot Mel. She kept mumbling words. Now shes fast asleep."
Ben stood there thinking, "Keep an eye on her. I'll come over soon. Right now Mel needs me." Ben opened the door to go back in.
"And right now Sophie needs you too!" Richard stated

"I've got the bullet out." Ethan said as he dropped it on the table next to Mel.
"Good. How does it look?" Jack asked.
"Remarkably good. It was a clean shot. We'll have to do some sewing up inside before we close her up. But I think she is going to be okay.
"Ben wasn't lying, you are a good surgeon." Jack said.
"I've had a lot of practice." Ethan said without looking up. "Thank you Jack. I don't think I would have been able to save her without you."
"You're welcome." Jack nodded.
Mel woke to a bright light above her. "Ethan?" she whispered.
"She's awake!" Jack exclaimed to Ben.
Ethan bent down close to Mel, "Hey baby. How do you feel?"
"Horrible." she said and smiled slightly. "Thank you."
"For what?" Ethan asked.
"You said you would save me and you did."
Ethan smiled at her and kissed her softly.
"Mel?" Ben said coming to her other side.
"Hi Ben."
He took her hand, "I am sorry Mel. I never meant."
"Haven't we been through this?" Mel asked. "I forgive you Ben. I know you were just upset about William. I think we have a right to be. But no more shooting each other, okay?"
Ben nodded, "Of course." he said as he smiled and kissed her on the forehead. "I'm so happy you're alright."
"You know how the island is. I'll be up and running around the jungle in no time."
Ben's smile faded a little at the mention of the island and Mel knew what he was thinking. She had defied Jacob by not killing Sophie. She most likely wasn't going to be getting any help from him or the island.
"Ben, she needs to rest." Jack said coming back into the room.
"Of course. I'll be here when you wake up." he told her.
Mel nodded, "Until then, go see Sophie. She needs to tell you something, whether she knows it yet or not."
"I will." Ben answered as he stood to leave the room. "You'll take care of her?" he asked Ethan.
"Like I always have." Ethan said cooly as he watched Ben leave.

After Ethan and Jack fully stiched up mel. Jack then went with Ben to check on Sophie,
"She's fine just needs rest. She exhausted and i'm not surprised with the last few days with all been through."
"Jack, shes pregnant. Is the baby ok?"
"Well thats for juliet to deal with" Ben nodded and sat beside Sophie. holding her hand he watched as she peacefully slept.

Ethan met Jack at the door when he returned to Ben's house. "How is Sophie?" he asked.
Jack looked at him in surprise.
"What, you're shocked I'm asking? I understand Jack, you still see me as I was with you all on the beach. The mess with Claire."
Jack nodded, "You did kidnap her."
"I only wanted to protect her and her baby. I may have gone a bit overboard. You see Jack, I have a difficult time with women who are pregnant. A long time ago I was married."
"I think you told me about this right after the crash." Jack said.
"Yes. I was telling the truth. She died in child birth here on this island. The baby was too young to live. So, I do care when I see a woman who is pregnant on this island."
"Even if it's the girlfriend of the man who just shot the woman you love?" Jack asked.
Ethan nodded his head and looked down at Mel was was sleeping. "Even so."
They were quiet for a few moments, "Do you think it would be safe to move her?" Ethan asked. "I hate seeing her laid out on that table."
"Your house is probably too far but I don't see anything wrong with moving her to a bed here. At least she'll be more comfortable."
Ethan offered his hand and Jack shook it, "Thank you Jack."

Zoe had thought about going to visit Sophie to check she was okay, but she was more desperate to go see her children. She found Juliet who took her to a lab at the back of the village, where the babies were being kept in a strange kind of incubation centre.
"This is amazing....most sophisticated technology I've ever seen. I only wish I would really be giving birth to them..." Zoe commented as she watched the fetouses from a scanner.
"Well....you could have done. It was you're choice." Juliet replied a little defensivly.
"Don't worry, I'm not blaming you...or Ben." Zoe replied looking at her. "But I didn't have a choice. I did it only to keep them safe. Which turned out to be a good thing, because the twins never would have survived from when I got shot, would they?" Juliet nodded in agreement.
"At least you won't have to wait as long for them to be ready to come out of there." Juliet explained. "The chemicals in the machine, they are more powerful then our own biological make up. With the island's healing powers too - they should be ready to give birth in six months instead of nine."
"Really?" Zoe gasped open mouth, and went back to staring at her screen, she couldn't take her eyes off them. They were so beautiful and captivating. "it's so hard to believe we were once like that. Harmless, innocent little living organisms."
"Yes." Juliet agreed. "Look - I'm just going to pop out for a bit. Will you be okay here on your own?" Zoe nodded and didn't look away from the screen. She heard the door, but made no movement from where she stood.

Sophie woke up Ben sat there smiling to her.
"Hey..." he said
"Ben...."
"What happened to you? You ran off and then....Then your here again."
"I had to be alone. I'm sorry." she said as she sat up on the bed.
"You know nothing is going to change between us Sophie!" he said reassuring her.
"I dunno about that Ben. Perhaps you shouldn't be with me. I'm going to hurt you."
"What do you mean?"
"In the future. I'm going to hurt you. I dunno how or why. I am though."
"Well will avoid that!" said Ben kissing her hand. Before pulling her towards him for a kiss.

The next time Mel woke up she was in a soft, comfortable bed. She looked around and realized she was in someone else's bedroom and panicked. How had she gotten here? More importantly, where was she?
"What is going on?" she asked the empty room.
Suddenly the door to the room was pushed open and a man walked in. He was about 35 years old and good looking. His shaggy brown hair fell into his eyes.
"Hey baby, Jack and I moved you in here so you would be more comfortable."
Mel's eyes widened as he addressed her casually. She took a deep breath and spoke, "Who are you?"

Zoe touched the screen with one of her hands, which was then met by another. She looked up the arm and then into the face of who's hand it was.
"Charlie..." She whispered. "You came back."
"Of course I did. I have to. I need to know your safe. How are the little ones?" He asked.
"Yeah, their fine." Zoe replied, smiling weakly at him, feeling tears brimming. "I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too hun." He replied, putting an arm around her comfortingly. "You know, I heard the baby names you wanted to give them when you were dying. That's very sweet of you, I really had no idea how far your love for me went."
"You silly, isn't the fact that I can still see you, still speak to you, proof enough?" She asked, and kissed him. "Still feel you..."
"I suppose I never really thought of it that way." Charlie grinned. "So who is Abbie?"
"Abbie is - was - my mother's name." Zoe replied sadly. Charlie nodded in understanding.
"Who are you talking to?" Juliet asked as she walked back into the room. Zoe looked up from where she had embraced Charlie.
"Oh...er....just the babies." Zoe replied, feeling her cheeks flushing.

"What do you mean who am I? I'm Ethan." he said as he set the water he was carrying on the nightstand.
Mel looked at him carefully, "I don't know you. I'm sorry."
Ethan looked at the woman he loved in shock. The woman who didn't know who he was.
"Why don't you stay here and rest. You've been through quite a lot."
"Ok." Mel nodded.

Ethan knocked loudly on the door to Richard's house.
Ben pulled the door open quickly, "Could you keep it down? Sophie is sleeping."
"So was Mel. Until she woke up and didn't remember who I was."
"What?" Ben asked shutting the door behind him and walking with Ethan across the courtyard and back to his house.
"She didn't recognize me at all. She doesn't know who I am. I'm betting she doesn't remember you either. How could this have happened so quickly? Half an hour ago she was talking to both of us and she knew who we were then."
Ben stopped abruptly, "I think I know what has happened." he whispered.
"What is it?" Ethan asked.
Ben looked out into the jungle, "Mel is being punished."
"For what?" Ethan said roughly. "She hasn't done anything wrong."
"I believe her memory has been taken away because she didn't follow the orders she was given."
Ethan looked at Ben blankly for a moment, then it hit him. "Jacob made her forget everything and everyone because she didn't kill Sophie?"
"Yes." Ben said as they stepped onto his front porch. "Now we just need to figure out how much she has truly lost."
