A voice is one of the most attractive things about a person. You can get a feeling of who they are. His voice is amazing. I like that he is eloquent and speaks properly, that is a great asset to have.

1. Emerson-aholic (Robyn) 2. legallyblonde01 (charlotte) 3. MikeyRocks 4. Henry Gale I simply love his aspirated 'h's in words beginning with 'wh', such as 'why' or 'what' or 'wheelchair' - it sounds very cultured, and I regret that I haven't been brought up to speak in such a fashion. I love that too. I also do that It is just the way I speak. Sometimes, late at night I don't speak like that. For the most part, I am proud of the way I speak. I like that you said it sounded cultured. It's true. He is just excellent.

This long article pitting Michael against Terry says that Michael comes out on top voice-wise: "Whenever Emerson speaks, he grabs the audience’s attention with an iron fist. Ben frequently needs to assert control over situations with just the power of his voice. He delivers most of his lines at a steady pace, but he usually knows exactly which words to emphasize and when to increase the tempo. The subtle quiver in his vocal delivery perfectly matches the eerie tone of the island’s mysteries. Emerson can be just as effective speaking from off-screen, or, as we saw in the finale, speaking through a walkie-talkie. Some of the show’s editing choices confirm this strength; we often continue to hear Emerson’s voice even as the camera focuses upon another character’s reaction. Whereas O’Quinn might serve as the true face of Lost, Emerson might represent the true voice of Lost. The parallel argument works here: if you needed one actor to pull off an important scene without relying on many visual close-ups, Michael Emerson would be the best choice." lostforum.blogspot.com/2007/07/supporting-actor-showdown-michael.html

K. just finished listening to "Murder Mysteries" (I know, I know, what took me so long? Well, for one thing I have the graphic novel and I always gets distracted and go scurrying for that book and end up reading it and not paying attention to the recording. I totally LOVE Neil Gaiman. And to think he only lives but a few dozen miles from here—GAH.) But I digress. You know, some — I'm sure not anyone on this board — has criticized his English accent, but I found mistaking Michael's voice for Jonathan Pryce's, and I'm "Wha--? I thought this was a Michael Emerson thing? When does Michael speak?" So I suppose that supports his ability to do English accents.

K, watched the TV Guide interview w/o sound. I know, I know and silence that wonderful voice, am I MAD? But wait here's a thought. We all know how wonderful Michael's voice is. He could just do audiobooks, and I'd be in heaven. But add the visual, and here's how I think he adds dimension to his voice: He moves his upper lip. Most folks when you just watch their mouths, it's their lower lips that do all the movement and contortion, but Michael adds the top lip. He tends to pull it off the side or curl it on one side, and the mouth tends to add some sort of visual choreography, if I may use that term, to the sounds he's making. I think that's mesmerizing.

Adrus 20. fin now by knowing hier real voice, after watching LOST season 4 in english, i will never watch an emerson movie in german again. *g* it really doesn't matter that i might not understand every single word. it's the atmosphere that counts. besides he speaks so accurate that it's not that hard to understand him when english is not your mother tongue.
