What are five songs that you never get tired of listening to? Which ones inspire you, or pick you up on an otherwise bad day? Why did you choose these particular songs? Mine change on a daily basis, but here are a few that I've been listening to fairly obsessive this week: 1. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars - It's just really pretty, and somewhat soothing 2. Cass Elliott - Make your Own Kind of Music - Desmond's theme! This song instantly puts a bounce in my step, and makes me walk confidently. 3. David Cook - Time of My Life - cheesy, I know, but terribly addictive 4. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love - Just a gorgeous song. 5. Keane - Somewhere Only We Know - One of my all time favorites; it's a little haunting and melancholy, yet still somehow uplifting. Now it's YOUR turn!!

Ah ah, tigerlily, you're going to kill me for answering this BEFORE... you know what. Anyhow, here's a top five, except it's not a top five at all, just 5 of my favorite songs, i have thousands others, lol. [Hum... let's say 5 artists... LOL] 1 - Paul McCartney: Maybe I'm Amazed - OK that one was pretty obvious... look avatar 2 - Rufus Wainwright: 14th street, Dinner at Eight, One Man Guy (from his father Loudon) and a couple more others, including... his version of #3 - Sorry, how exactly do you want me to choose one song? 3 - Leonard Cohen: Hallelujah - Just take the time to listen to this song once and you'll be forever hooked. 4 - Jean Leloup: Le Dôme, La chambre, Le monde est à pleurer, and many others - artist from Quebec you'll probably never hear about, but he's amazing... those songs are actually a bit depressing but yet awesome 5 - WHAT? ONLY ONE LEFT? --- hum, gotta be careful... let's say... --- Simon & Garfunkel: A Hazy Shade of Winter - "But look around / Leaves are brown / And the sky / Is a Hazy Shade of Winter"... what a nice song!!! Damn it, just don't get me started on music, I could go on and on for hours! I have work to do!!! LOL... EDIT: and now I'm hunting the web for *your* songs...

I really love Rufus Wainwright, too!! I actually prefer his 'Hallelujah' to Leonard Cohen's. It's so GORGEOUS!!! My favorite Paul song is probably 'Let it Be.' It's so comforting. Now get to work on your Paul report!!

I used to agree with you on that, but then, I saw the Cohen hommage this summer at the Montreal's Jazz Fest, and now I can't choose between the two versions. I mean they are so different! Both of them are fabulous. Did you know that both singers are from Montreal? Well, technically, it's a Beatle's song, written by Lennon/McCartney, but we all know it was written by Paul ;D EDIT: Rufus is from Montreal too ;D EDIT2: Oops, you edited your last post too... *runs to hide in a corner to do an important phone call before doing my report*

I actually am not terribly keen on the solo Paul songs...but there are a few exceptions. I absolutely love 'Jenny Wren,' and of course 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and 'Live and Let Die.' He has some real gems, but I don't think any of them compare to his artistry as a Beatle.

I could point you quite a few others I could listen to 50 times on a loop without getting tired of them... (Jenny Wren is a gem, you're right!) (and the pirotechnics on LALD were cool sunday night - oops. slipping to my report)... ... this thread is starting to look like a dialogue ;D

1. Anyone else but you, The Moldy Peaches or the Ellen Page/Michael Cera version - It's just so sweet and simple.
2. Best Imitation of Myself, or Brick, both by Ben Folds Five - The first is so witty and upbeat, while the other is about Ben Folds's girlfriend's abortion.
3. If you want to sing, sing out, by Cat Stevens - I just love this song. It's very inspiring.
4. Loose Lips, by Kimya Dawson - Just a great song for a bad day.
5. Island in the Sun, by Weezer - Makes me think of just me and Ben, alone on the island...
Honorable mentions:
We're gonna be friends, by The White Stripes
Northern Downpour, by Panic at the Disco
Disenchanted, by My Chemical Romance

1. "Just Like Murder" by Maktub. I never get tired of this song, it is sad and sweet at the same time.
2. "Mordred's Lullaby" by Heather Dale. In one word, haunting. Mordred is one of my favorite characters from the lore and this song is perfect for him.
3. "Don't Come Around Here No More" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. This one is always at the top of the list. I don't know why but I find something kind of sexy about it. Maybe it is the way Petty sings it.
4. "Honey, Honey" by Amanda Seyfreid. This is from the Mamma Mia: The Movie soundtrack. I've always been a big fan of ABBA and can't get enough of the movie.
5. "Thursday's Child" by David Bowie. Besides being a major Bowie fan since I was very young I've always felt I identified with this song.

YESSSS to David Bowie!!! He's so classic! ;D
I'm not too familiar with the others, though. This little exercise is definitely expanding my horizons!
I don't know why, but I've always been drawn to haunting, melancholoy music and lyrics. I'm generally a very optimistic person, so it really doesn't make much sense. But, I guess it's beautiful melodies, more than anything, that draws me in.
