It is kinda funny to me how Kate isn't all that popular, but Juliet's gotten a good fanbase after just arriving this year. They're both mysterious people[well, Kate was early on]and aren't standard damsels in distress- both have proven to be sneaks and often liers, both have strength, and both can fight too. Plus, with Kate's whole backstory of being on the run and robbing and conning people, that's the sort of thing that looks great on paper and should add to her intrige. Kate's whole conflict and duplicity hasn't really caught on for everyone, but Juliet's had more success with hers so far. I wonder how we've been able to warm up to Juliet more than Kate, despite their similarities. Is it because Elizabeth Mitchell's a better actress?[perhaps] Because there's still a lot of mystery to tell with Juliet? Because she's so closely tied to Ben?[probably a factor for some people here] Because she's an Other? Because the writers have done a better job constructing her so far?[which would be weird considering their poor history with introducing and sticking with new characters other than Ben and Desmond] Because Kate's back and forth with Jack and Sawyer is getting to be too much by now, and Juliet's hardly as angsty? In any way, it is something to think about when thinking of this ep, and whatever conflict they have left to come.Bobdoc, I like yours insights, and, lately, you are the only one ready to discuss the episode and the deep meaning behind the characters in this forum. I think you are right about Elizabeth being a better actress than Evie. Not that Evie is bad. It is just that she does not have as much experience as Elizabeth has. LOST was Evie's first acting gig. I think she is doing phenomenally considering how inexperienced she was. Another factor is that the writers, at first, were more than likely going to pair her up with Jack. Sawyer was supposed to be the bad guy: The guy that no one likes. I read somewhere that Josh Holloway was a bit upset that he had such a despicable character on his hands, especially after he struggled so hard to stay in show business. He figured that he would die soon, and would lose the opportunity to make a name for himself to remain in the business. He knew that he had to make his character lovable and not worthy of being killed off. I think that he accomplished his goal, thus giving the writers another angle for a possible triangular love affair. And we all know that triangles make the soaps go around. Evie, unfortunately, has not figured out how to make her character lovable. She is cute and some men have the hots for her, which of course, makes enemies out of women. And besides, we are all getting sick of love Jack, no love Sawyer attitude. I wish she would pair up with someone else already.

If Juliet was right in saying they only know of the monster, then it's not something the Others created- that would make it a Dharma creation. I thought for a while the Others created it themselves, because the monster is a kind of judge and jury on judging people and attacking those it sees as bad people, just like the Others do- I thought they shared the same kind of moral judgement system.
