Working on Lost can be hazardous to the mental health of child actors.
14-year-old Sterling Beaumon, who played creepy young Ben on last season’s Lost, has managed to find an even creepier role. He’ll appear in a August 11 episode of A&E’s The Cleaner as a meth-addicted drug runner.
And on the July 21 Cleaner episode, child actress Madeline Carroll, who played little Ben’s Dharmaville playmate, Annie, on Lost two seasons ago, turns up as the daughter/caretaker of an alcoholic who gives her dad booze.
Sterling tells me his character, “makes meth in an abandoned toy factory. He gets super high and passes out a few times. This kid goes through it all. He eats Twinkies for lunch.” In the same episode, Whoopi Goldberg reprises her role as Benjamin Bratt’s character’s former sponsor, Paulina Kmec, and Christine Lahti guest stars as Gail, the mother of Sterling’s character’s best friend.
Sterling believes his time on Lost may be done. “I think after that big white flash, that’s going to be the end of time traveling,” he says. “But there could still be a flashback. I think they’ve shown everything anyone wanted to know about little Ben. The only thing I can think that people still might want to know is what happened inside the temple once Richard took him inside.”
Do you care? Should the show bring back little Ben or have you had enough?
