He said they made peanut butter and jelly because it was the only thing they could think of that they could carry with them that would not spoil in the heat.

How about those little fun-size boxes of Milk Duds? They would keep pretty good. There's also energy bars, although I think they taste like cardboard. Gimme a Snickers anyday, except melted in my purse.
