GAH, I can't wait! This is going to be fantastic! Ben and Hurley will raise bunnies and play with dolls and have tea parties and have their own book club, where Stephen King is never read.

These posts about the final 15 minutes with Ben and Hurley as the guarders of the island is very ambigouous. Are they saying that we have to buy the whole series again? They sure make it sound like that. I hope not. I hope that buying Season 6 will also give us the footage. What to do, what to do.....?

It should be on S6, since that's where footage like that belongs. But if not, maybe some nice Lost fan will post the scenes on YouTube, so we don't have to buy the collection.

The footage will be on both the Season 6 DVD or Blu-Ray and the full series set, which includes extra toys and such. Those items are nothing what would make me spring for a whole brand new set. I'm getting the Season 6 set, simply because I have the previous five, so I might as well.
I will however be very displeased if the extra footage provides enough additional material that it will alter my view of the show. I was a little suspicious when the info on it came out the day after the series ended and the groundswell of disapproval was pretty much at full hilt. It just smacked of damage control. It did the opposite of impress me. You know there had to be a sizable campaign planned to promote the complete series set. So it was there, ready to deploy at the first scent of trouble. I'm not saying that it is what happened. I would have no way of knowing, but I'm pretty sure, no one from "LOST" talks about such things unless he or she gets the word from the top that it's OK. They might even encouraged to talk.
In any case, I'm sure copies of that extra footage will make it out to the Web. Not that I condone such things, but that genie — pirated video — is out of the bottle, and networks and show creators will have a hard time getting it back in. I also think it's crocodile tears for them. That stuff also helps promote sales to a degree.
For all the supposed value it provides, all the extra stuff on the DVD sets really haven't altered my ultimate opinion of the show. I still haven't watched the section on the hatch in the Season 2 or 1 set, whichever it is. I'm sure it's a nice bit of background, but I really don't care. It's the job of producers to make that stuff work, but if the story can't grab a viewer, no amount of set dressing is going to help. People still hate the sub, but it didn't put them off the show.

Amazon.com now says this about the special features on the S6 DVD and bluray: "Plus: A Lost Blu-ray & DVD exclusive - Go deeper into the world of LOST with a much-anticipated new chapter of the island's story from Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse... and starring some very familiar faces"

There's a new teaser of the short, including a new shot of Ben, on page 15 of this week's Entertainment Weekly. I can't find a scan of it yet, and I don't know if it will appear on the EW website. But it does give away one of the tasks Ben has in his new job.

I'm so looking forward to sitting down with the S6 DVDs and soaking in those last few surprises.

My explanation of the Dharma food drops was so much better and could be deduced from the show without needing further explanation.
What I do want to know is how Ben got to and from the island and how the Others got around the island. That's it and I'm happy.
