Well, I finally did it. I sent my letter, with some pictures to Michael. Now, I just have to wait.
Phew... This was difficult for me. I lived in NYC during the days (it may still hold true) when you left celebrities alone. Besides, my mother used to work for Halston (the designer) and I was always around celebrities. So, it really shouldn't be a big deal for me. But Michael somehow is. I am so in awe of his acting capabilities that I found it difficult to bother him. However, I took deep breaths and did it.
The letter is on its way to Hawaii.

I loved Halston when he was at the peak of his work. I still think his designs were classic. What did your mom do, if you don't mind my asking? Good luck on your mail. I'll bet you'll get something back. He seems to be a classy guy who has managed to keep himself grounded in spite of being in a profession that seems to me could really spin you around a bit.

Oops, I just saw all these answers to my earlier thread. I sent him these pix: I mentioned the board and the Web site. I asked him whether he could give us a sample of his illustrations and I asked him the questions that I sent to BuddyTv.

I didn't ignore the question. I just saw it. Here's the answer: My mother sewed the clothing that the models wore on the runway. It was a pretty important job in the fashion world. Halston was a great guy. When I was getting married, he gave my mother one month off to sew my wedding dress. I had an original designer's dress that my mom made for me. Had I bought the dress, it would have cost me $3,000.00 ($8,000.00 in today's inflated world). It cost us $200.00. He gave my mom lots of materials for her to make my dresses for the next 5 years. What he didn't understand was that I hated haute couture. I'd much rather go to K-mart and pick my dresses. I didn't want to stand out. Oh, and my mom also sewed the dresses that some celebrities would order after the fashion show that he'd give. My mom got to meet Liza Minelli, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Ethel Kennedy, among others.

Very cool, Esther. I was working in a less-haute end of the garment industry (skiwear) when Halston was at his height and all the women who were trained in tailoring and fashion design just thought he was a god, and basically would have killed to work with him. I was a mere artist, and one NOTHING like someone such as Eula, and moreover I was trained in fine art rather than commercial art or graphic arts, so I was somewhat more clueless, but I could see that Halston was a class act and his designs were a cut above, so to speak. You were very fortunate to have such an up-close inside view of that rare world. Thanks for sharing.

You were very fortunate to have such an up-close inside view of that rare world. Thanks for sharing. Thanks. It's strange how back then, I thought that the world that I was part of was not important. I visited my mom in Halston's Manhattan office. It was not a real boutique. The models walked around seminaked. They wore panties and that was it. I was a mere, bashful teenager who was bothered by their indiscretion. But then Halston was gay and all the other staff members were women. The famous women for whom Halston designed their clothes for would come in by appointment only. I don't think the models were around then. I don't remember. But he was a nice guy who paid my mom a decent salary and was proud of my getting married. Too bad his life ended so soon. But as I said earlier, I didn't appreciate the clothes. I was (and am still) a dungaree-wearing type of girl. Comfortable clothes, shoes, etc., are what I like. Btw, my name is Edith. (I don't mind you calling me Esther, though LOL).
