We are all of us, I'm sure, wondering about these "others". Where they came from, who they are, what our friend "Henry" has to do with them exactly. I know I've been thinking about it and I've come up with some thoughts about how their group functions. Clearly, they have an overall leader, whoever that is. Considering what happened to the tailies, I think when people end up on this island one way or another this leader sends one of his group to check them out. Then they steal the children, kill the ones they think to be a threat, and perhaps try to coerce the survivors they think are cooperative into joining them. They were successful to a degree with the tailies. I think the reason they don't attack the plane survivors is because there are just too many of them and it would be an unacceptable risk. Their group has proven too resilient to do much about for the moment so they wait and plot. Some of the others seem to be doctors and scientists, but some may just be your average people caught up in the whole thing. "Henry" may be one of these. They send such people out on missions because they are expendable. That's why there has been no effort to get him back. He is not all that important and as he himself said their leader is not forgiving so he would just end up dead if they get their hands on him again. Ethan knew he was dead if he failed and that explains why he seemed so insane and violent. I don't know. That is just what I think of the situation. I sure hope we learn more soon because my mind is going crazy with possibilities. What are some of your thoughts?

I don't get the impression that Henry is as expendable as he's making himself seem. We do know he isn't valued as much as Walt is, but that isn't saying much, as we've seen how far the Others are willing to go for Walt. I also don't at all believe that he's dead if he fails his mission; I think he was lying about that. For someone who's dead no matter where he goes, he was certainly willing to hightail it out of captivity as soon as Michael let him go--and that's another thing. Michael's working for the Others, and they clearly sent him to get Henry back, because he knew exactly what to do to get to him and exactly where he was.
I do agree that Ethan was probably dead if he failed. Ethan didn't seem too important in the Others' hierarchy. I think that really goes to show that Henry is far higher up in the pecking order than Ethan was. Bearded Guy was ordering Ethan around in the one Claire flashback, and Henry scornfully referred to Bearded Guy as "nothing and nobody."
I think all of the Others are scientists, actually. Just a theory. They seem to be well-connected to Dharma, and even the ones we know are scientists/doctors usually dress in rags. Henry could very well be an important Other scientist.
He just seems so completely in control of everything, because the castaways know so little about him. Those evil "you are all pawns in my master plan" smiles we see when he's all alone give me the major creeps. The only time we ever saw him lose his deadpan cool was when Sayid was about to kill him.
I really hope "Two for the Road" wasn't his last episode!

Perhaps. I suppose only time will tell. I can't wait for the next one. Thanks for answering, btw, I was beginning to think I was only talking to myself. That is an eerie and lonely experience.

*grin* No prob.
I'm so excited for tonight's episode! I think he might be in it, and I'm dying to find out (a) if he really meant what he said about Locke being important and (b) what his real name is and how the real Henry Gale came to be on the island. Knowing this show, we won't find any of that out until Season Eight, if ever, but a girl can hope.
I hope they don't go out of their way to make Locke seem even more gullible now, what with the stuff Henry told him. Locke's one of my favorite characters and they're really messing with the poor guy.

Very good questions. I hope one day we'll have answers. I want to know more about him too, but he has not been in the last two eps. and I feel like I am going crazy wondering, but he's in the next at least. Let's hope he's in a good chunk of it and that it's not his last episode.
Poor Locke. I like him too, even though sometimes his behaviour confuses me.

He had me at "Hello again""I've got Fenry all figured out: An Analysis of Fenry Gale" www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22979A careful and thoughtful examination of the character and his motives. I think some of the stuff she comes up is really pretty good - I hope several points turn out to be right. I love this quote: "Because for Fenry-- question him, threaten him, interrogate him, torture him as much as you like-- you will only ever find out exactly what he wants you to hear." ...well, unless you do as Sayid does, and dig up graves and such.
