Nice. But why do the Others live as hypocrites? Why is it so bad they have running water and electricity?

Nice. But why do the Others live as hypocrites? Why is it so bad they have running water and electricity? Locke seems to think that it is. Maybe they use the resources and pollute the land without giving anything back. Or maybe using DHARMA resources is not the way the island wants the natives to go.

You know, I think of Locke more as something that he himself said at the very beginning: a simple man. A terrorist suggests there's a motive or an objective that will strike terror into the hearts of your enemy, but I don't see Locke acting that way, I'm not sure he sees the others as his enemy nor does he really consider the Lostaways his allies. I think he just wants everyone to take what they need and wished people did not get involved in power games. And that's why he'd always doing such bone-headed things. There are several power struggles going on on the island (as there were in his life before), but he just didn't get it.

But he should mind his own business, instead of worrying about what Jack or other people are doing. Especially Ben, when he mocked them for having electricity--mind your own damn business, Locke!!! If you had running water on a lost island, would you say "no thanx" and live off of parasite ridden creek water? Um, no. If you could use electricity, would you just willingly flee from it and sleep in a adrk creepy cave that lurks unknown animals? In my opinion--Locke is not the hero people think he is--maybe he is gonna be the bad guy of the series?

I myself am becoming a bit more convinced that Locke is going to become "one of them" at least once before the series ends, if not before the season ends. I figure Locke's beef isn't that they use electricity really, it's that the Others were too busy using all that real world stuff to appreciate the spirituality of the island and that it's true power isn't in technology- one of those "abandoning spirtuality and faith for the modern world" kinda arguments. Since he's no longer in a wheelchair and Ben is, he figures the Others don't really appreciate the power of the island and don't deserve the kind of gifts it can give them, as it gave Locke- not that anyone on either side knows what the island's power truly is.

Great insight. I like it.

Yeah. The more I think about it the more I am convinced that Locke will be the antagonist

According to the website tvsquad, this week's Lost podcast on ABC briefly addressed why Locke complained about Ben using technology, which was debated on this thread too. The post said "According to Carlton Cuse, Locke believes that Ben's reliance on The Barracks' technology is weakening his connection to the island." The rest of the post is at www.tvsquad.com/2007/04/03/lost-audio-podcast-recap-march-30-2007/ which lists a couple of other details revealed by the podcast[including two little spoilers for tomorrow's show]and mentions Elizabeth Mitchell was interviewed in it.
