Here are the rules to our brand-new FanFiction contest: - Write a story featuring either Ben or Henry.
- You can use any other character from canon or from your own imagination to interact with Ben/Henry.
- Make sure that your story fits in tightly with your time line. It does not have to fit the timeline provided by LOST.
- There is no real rule as to the length, but make sure you don’t write a novel of 200 pages. The judges have to be able to read your story and that of the others as well.
- Newcomers and seasoned writers are encouraged to enter.
- Do not use a story that you already have written. If you feel that you wrote a story and want to expand it, that’s OK. What we really want to see, however, is something fresh and original.
- Avoid spelling and grammatical errors. (If you need help with your grammar, PM Edith. And don’t be afraid to use the dictionary for proper spelling.)
- Keep it PG, please. This board is open to all ages. Let’s not break any proboard rules.
- Post your fiction in this thread.
You can use any of these prompts for your story (or come up with your own): - Write a story addressing the relationship between Ben, Alex, and Juliet.
- Write a story inspired by this picture:
- Write a story with the first sentence as follows: "It wasn't often one saw Benjamin Linus laughing hysterically in public."
You will be judged on originality, story flow, characterization, and skill with words. Your story doesn't have to be professional, but fresh and interesting. Deadline will be August 1st. The grand prize will be a portrait of Michael Emerson drawn by Nicole (linus108). Winner picks the pose. First prize and two runners up will get to keep a FanFic Winner avi.

I'm afraid my stories would be way too long. lol
Hmm, it might be challenging to try to write something shorter.

As long as it's not the multiple-part style, usually in-progress, y'know, you should be fine. We're tough Hit us with it.

I'm glad the deadline was extended. I have a good idea for a story but I didn't think I could get it written by August 1st.
Does it matter if the story has kind of a dark tone to it?

Edith said PG, but I would think that extends only to what appears on this board. The Henry Gale Lovers Community community.livejournal.com/henrygalelovers/ on Live Journal is an excellent place to post fan-fiction; I'm sure we all recommend it. (You'll need an account to post.) There, you give a short descriptor of the piece and hide it behind an "lj cut," which is explained in their help section. (If any of it is vexing (which I don't judge at all!), go ahead and ask Edith, Ashlibrooke or myself. We'd love to help.) Then link to that piece here. If you'd still like to post here, I'd say: it can be massively depressing, and - dark, yes, murderous undertones. But if it's straying into PG-13 territory, you think, best to check into Live Journal. The Henry Gale Community is very cool indeed.

That is a cool community. I'll have to join it with my xgirl30 LJ. (I already joined under my Ben RPG journal name.)
I thought posting PG-13 stories was allowed on Proboards. (My story won't be any stronger than that.) I'll have to double check on the support forum to make sure. (I posted a question about that when I was working on the rules for my forum and the TOQ forum and I'm pretty sure the response I got was that PG-13 was allowed.) Posting links to PG-13 stories should be fine but I wouldn't do it for anything stronger. That is against Proboards' TOS. (that was what I posted about on the support forum) Sorry about all this discussion about rules. I''ve learned more about the Proboards rules than I wanted to since I started helping with the TOQ forum.

... when we'll get to know who the winner is?

Thought I'd deign to Edith on this... but I might as well go ahead: well, all submissions should be in by the first, and then - well, I'd guess you should know within 2-3 weeks, depending on our schedules, etc. The winners will likely know first, even possibly before we have the other 1-2 placements ironed out. We'll see how it goes. And thanks for adding me on LJ! ;D I don't know German, though , aside from a few things... and I don't want to Babelfish the page because it would likely screw everything up and make me laugh - not at you, at the stupid translation , and yeah. It makes me sad because while I'm very German (people generally can't pronounce my last name), I don't know it.

I just wanted to know, because I really want to know who the winner is. xD There are so many cool FF's. I wanted to write in english first but... ah... writing my days in English is too much work for me because I don't have much time everyday...

I've reviewed them and sent Edith my choices for 1st - 3rd. We'll have to see what she and mythicfeline come up with. Woohoo! You all did a really great job I'm impressed!

I must echo henryrocks comments. There wasn't a bad entry, so it was tough to decide. Everyone should know it was a very narrow margin. You couldn't even slide a sheet of paper through. It's sort of like the Terry O'Quinn-Michael Emerson Emmy competition.

Maybe everyone who entered should get a winner avie then. (I'd be glad to make some avies/banners if you'd like. I did that for fanfiction contests on another board and everyone liked them) (I hope the above doesn't sound like I'm trying to take things over or step on anyone's toes. The idea just came to me today and I thought I should mention it.)
