It's been a while since I wrote a fan fiction. This hiatus without LOST is so long. I just can't stand it. I hope that my friends who love LOST as much as I do will enjoy Part 1 of my new story about Ben, Annie, and Alex. (And, no, this story is not part of the contest.)

They did not have a big wedding. Her parents did not approve it. His father was too drunk to attend. In fact, they really did not have a DHARMA approved wedding. They were married by the moonlight on the beach. Richard officiated and Jacob’s spirit gave them his blessings. They were happy and that’s what mattered.
They spent their honeymoon in a shack. Although they have many times seen each other naked, he had never consummated their love. He didn’t want her pregnant without being married to her. He wanted to marry her legally, with the DHARMA laws protecting them. Alas, her parents would not allow it. So, he had no recourse, but to marry her through the laws of the Hostiles. It was better this way. Annie would be spared when the purge would happen.
He looked into her big brown eyes and kissed her passionately in the mouth. He loved this woman. She was his everything.
After their honeymoon, Ben and Annie settled back in their DHARMA compounds. Her parents refused to accept their Hostile marriage and disowned her from the family. Because Ben was merely a workman, they could not afford to live anywhere else but with Roger Linus.
Roger was civil towards his new daughter-in-law. She kept the house clean, made decent meals, kept to herself, and didn’t bother him about his drinking. That was all he asked for.
Annie accepted Ben’s decision to not join the intellectuals of DHARMA. She felt that he made a mistake and didn’t know why a great mind such as his chose not to pursue the valuable researches that were being done at the island. Ben told her he had his reasons and she respected his decision.
She knew that their lives would be so different had he not chosen the workman route. Her parents would have approved of him. They would be given their own home and she would not have to work so hard to please her father-in-law. She despised the man. He was so mean and unloving towards her Ben.
Ben had no secrets from Annie, but one. And that one was a complicated one. He could not tell her why he chose not to be a researcher. He could not tell her that he planned to one day annihilate all but the good ones from DHARMA. Annie was one of the good ones, Tom was one as well, and even Danny and his girl friend Colleen were considered one of the good ones. He could not tell her that he was needed to steal chemicals from DHARMA and store them in Jacob’s shack. As a workman, his movements from the warehouse to the outside of the compound were not suspicious. Workmen were always taking items from the warehouse to the various stations outside of the compound. He had to keep this secret from Annie. She was not to know that when the purge would come, her parents would die. Despite the fact that they disowned, she still loved them.
Two years have passed since they were married and Annie was not pregnant. Birth control was not available in island. So Ben had no clue as to why Annie was not able to conceive. She wanted a baby so much, but month after month, her menses would come.
One day, when Ben was making his illicit delivery to the Hostile’s temple, Richard told him to follow him. Ben did as told. They walked over to a remote area of the island, near a hidden beach. There Ben found a woman with a tiny baby digging a grave.
“That woman killed that man and all the other people who were marooned over her with her. She is crazy. I believe that the baby is about 5 days old. We must rescue that baby from her. She is an absolute lunatic. I thought that you and Annie would be the ideal parents for the baby. What do you think?”
Ben thought about the proposition. He would have to bring up the subject delicately to Annie, but he knew that he could do that. “Let me approach it with Annie. I’ll get back with you tomorrow and we can decide how we will take that baby from that woman.”
“Sounds good, Ben.”
The two men walked back in silence. They did not talk. They were comfortable with each other. Richard has been Ben’s mentor for a number of years now. Ben must have been 10 or 11 when he first met Richard. He still remembered that day. The day his mother told him it was “not yet time.” It was so long ago. He was so unhappy then. Richard and Annie were the only ones who were able to keep him happy—Richard with his promise of better days for the island; Annie for her lover for him.
When Ben got back to his house, he approached Annie about the possibility of adoption. “Whose baby could we adopt? There are no orphans on this island.”
“Annie, what would you say if I told you that Richard found a boat that marooned here on the island? There was a pregnant woman on board. She died with her crew, but the baby survived. Richard and his people are taking care of the baby. Richard thought that the baby would be better off with us. What do you think?
Annie thought about it. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to have that baby. “Yes, I’ll take care of the baby. Do you know if it is a girl or a boy? Oh, it doesn’t matter. I would love to have it anyway.”
Ben kissed his wife and made a point to meet up with Richard to steal that baby. Unfortunately, he now had another secret to keep from Annie.
