Here's the fifth part of my fanfic. Ben is worried about making a bad decision.

They had a hard time on the way back to the Hostile’s campground. There was no way of silencing the baby. She was crying uncontrollably, as if she knew that she was taken from her mother. Richard kept reassuring everyone that the baby more than likely was just tired and couldn’t fall asleep.
Ben was having second thoughts about having participated in this escapade. There were a few problems to iron out that he had not thought about earlier. For instance, what were they going to feed this baby? How were they going to explain the sudden apparition of this child? He could tell them that the hostiles gave him the child, but that would not bear well with the DHARMA people. If he told them that he found a shipwreck and the child was the only survivor, the DHARMA folks would want to investigate it, find the crazy woman, and discover his role in the kidnap. He knew that he had to do some heavy thinking about this affair. In his haste to make his wife happy, he got himself in a big trouble.
Suddenly, the baby stopped crying. Ben overheard Tom singing some silly song that went like this:
Hush little baby don't say a word
Mama's gonna buy you a mocking bird.
If that mocking bird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.
If that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.
If that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat.
If that billy goat won't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
If that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
If that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.
If that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest babe in
town.
Ben started laughing. “Tom, those are the silliest words, I ever heard.”
“Oh, yeah. My mother sang this song to me. Of course, since you were born on this island and your mother died when you were born, you were not exposed to these songs. Pity, pity.”
Ben smiled. He did get away with that lie. Somehow, even Annie began to believe that he was born on the island. And she was there the first day he joined the school. But her memory of that day faded and she began to believe that she knew him all her life, and it was he who was there for her first day in the DHARMA school. Maybe he would be able to pull a new lie after all. Maybe people would believe him. He just had to think of a plausible one.
