Here's the ninth part of my fanfic.
I am not very happy with how this one turned out. It's hard to come up with something plausible about Jacob. At least, I tried. Anyway in this chapter, Ben finds out that Annie is pregnant, gets to know Jacob, and we find out how much he adores Alex.

Ben’s lie about Annie’s faux pregnancy went over well. Everyone accepted the possibility. DHARMA supplied Annie with formula, baby food, diapers, and baby clothes. And, for Ben, life was complete. He was living with the woman he loved and they had a child they loved.
Soon enough, Ben began believing his own lies. There was no question that Alex was their child. She looked like Annie’s mom and she seemed to have Ben’s personality: outgoing, cunning, and smart as a whip.
Annie slipped into motherhood really well. She was so busy with keeping up with her child that she was no longer bothered by the fact that her parents wanted nothing to do with her. It was their loss. They were the ones missing out on their grandchild.
As time passed by, Annie started losing the weight that she gained. Ben didn’t care one way or the other, he loved his wife unconditionally.
Roger didn’t mend his ways. He was still getting drunk, as well as feeling sorry for himself for having a son who, in Roger’s eyes, murdered his wife by merely being born early. Ben seemed to no longer care whether Roger liked him or not. He had Annie and Alex. As Alex was getting older, he was enjoying her more and more.
One day, Ben decided to visit the shack wherein he saw that old man. He wanted to make sure that he was not hallucinating his presence that day he kidnapped Alex from Danielle.
He found the shack, but the old man no longer was outside on the porch. “I must have hallucinated the whole thing. And to think that Richard thought that I was special?
Ben decided to explore the shack, and sure enough, the old man was inside. “Nice seeing you here, Ben.”
The booming sound of his voice startled Ben. The shack was dark and it took a while for Ben to see. He saw the old man sitting on the rocking chair. He was wearing very old-fashioned clothes and had a very harsh and scary stare. Ben conjured up his courage to ask a question. “Is it true that no one can see you?”
“Yes, no one can see or hear me. Only a special person, whom I deem to be special, can see or hear me. I only appear to those whom I want to appear. And you can only visit me when I summon you.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. I, I…”
“You came here today, because I summoned you, Ben. You will soon be a leader, a magnificent leader. You will be a powerful man. But I want you to always remember that I call the shots. You will be respected and loved by your people, only as long as you respect and obey me. Do you understand?”
Ben didn’t really understand. He thought that the man was off the wall, but he said “yes.”
“Now go away and come back when I summon you.”
“How will I know that you are summoning me?”
“Just as today you had the urge to visit me, you will feel that urge when I want you here.”
“Ben started walking out the door, when Jacob said his last words. “Don’t get greedy Ben. Don’t fall in the preys of technology. It’s evil. Be happy with your family as it stands now. Now, go!”
Ben had no idea what Jacob meant by his words. He walked out of the shack and went to see Richard. Richard might understand.
But Richard didn’t understand. All Richard did was look at Ben with awe. “All our lives we were waiting for our leader. I knew you were special the day I met you. Now I know that it was because Jacob sent you.”
Since his encounter with Jacob, weeks ran into months, months ran into years. Alex was two and Annie was back to her prenuptial weight. Life was wonderful. Alex squealed with happiness whenever Ben walked in the door. He loved this girl of his, and she loved him back.
One day, he heard the best news that he could have ever heard in his life: Annie was pregnant. Alex was to be a big sister. Maybe this one would be a boy. “Finally,” Ben thought to himself, "I found happiness.”
To be continued…..
