I thought the first time I saw Michael was on Lost, but once I checked out imdb I realized I'd seen him on several other things (X Files, L&O) but didn't make the connection! To me that's a testament to his talent, that in each role I saw the character and not the actor.
He is absolutely brilliant on Lost and he's the reason I became re-addicted to the show. I had skipped most of season 2 but when I saw a couple of episodes with Henry Gale, I bought the first 3 seasons on DVD and watched all of them in a long weekend to get caught up. It was great, but I dreamed about Lost a few times in the next week. ;D

Greetings, I just joined up, and this is my first posting. *waves hello* I *thought* I first saw Michael Emerson on "Lost," which I have never missed an episode of since the beginning (even though I nearly gave up the show after they killed off my previous favorite character last season). I really hated Henry/Ben for the longest time because he scared me so much. Up until last month when I saw "The Shape of Things to Come," and I was really impressed with his acting. (I'm a huge fan of great character actors, but this was the first time I think they *really* let him show his range, and, of course, that huge shocker moment really got to me!) So it wasn't till then that (with the seemingly hundreds of names in the cast) I bothered to find out the actor's name and visit his IMDb profile, from whence I found Edith's very comprehensive and informative site. I've since seen him in a number of interviews on YouTube (totally fell in love with him on "The View"--lucky, lucky Carrie!), as well as "Saw," "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" (awesome performance!), and "Without a Trace." (I won't bother counting "Unfaithful"--which was like a very cruel joke!) It was only afterwards that I realized I *had* seen him before--in "The X-Files," which, like "Lost," I never missed an episode of. I've since rented and rewatched that, as well as "Lost" Seasons 2 and 3, with a whole new perspective on Ben. And I really do believe now that he is one of the good guys! (In fact, he's beginning to remind me in many ways of another of my favorite literary characters, Severus Snape. What do you think? Anybody else see some similarities?)

Mooncove, hi and welcome I feel the same about Snape. Person who never was, is and will be loved. But he acts as he has to act, even nowing that everybody hates him more and more in their misunderstanding. I feel so sorry for him. Only thing, I would prefer that the wrighters do not spoil Ben`s harachter with the banal heroikal staff (like jumping from chopper or go to the death in the name of humanity). I prefere he stay himself, always with the plan, always with his humor and greate internal power.

Welcome Mooncove!!!
I definitely gravitate towards the "anti-heroes" like Ben and Snape, and I think Dr. House fits neatly into that category too. There's something so captivating about these characters, and the actors that draw from a very dark place to play them sometimes really amazes me.
I'm dying to see that X-Files episode, btw. I was a devoted fan of the show for a very long time, but they started to lose me after six years or so and I stopped watching. I think Michael's episode came after I wandered away, and now I'm kicking myself!!

Warning: possible Harry Potter spoilers below ...
Hi, Swallow. So glad other people see a similarity there. They're very different people, of course, but I think (well, hypothesize in Ben's case) that they're both misunderstood. (And that the writers intend for us the audience to do so.)
Thanks for the friendly welcome, tigerlily. It's nice to meet all of you. Yeah, "anti-hero" is a good word. I tend to be a big fan of the anti-hero ... and with "The Shape of Things to Come," Ben really became that for me. (I'm sure he has more surprises up his sleeve, but I believe in the overall scheme of things, he will turn out to e one of the good guys. Or at least he doesn't scare me anymore. The main reason he scared me was because you could never tell when to believe him or not ... but now I feel like, whatever lies he tells, they're for a good reason. (BTW, Alan Rickman has always seemed to be convinced that Snape was basically good as well.) Love your avatar, BTW. "So British"? Not sure if I'm interpreting it correctly, but as most of my favorite actors are British, with Michael being a rare exception, it fits for me.
You're not the first person to recommend "House" to me--I'll have to make a point to watch it. (I usually don't watch medical shows.)
I found "The X-Files" at the library--it's from the ninth/last season, third from last episode (on the same disk as the series finale). I was tempted to wander away from the show when they first moved it from Fridays to Sundays (I don't usually watch TV on the weekends), and even more so when David Duchovny left (not *that* big a fan of his, but I guess I just don't like change!), but like LOST, I was still hooked, even after I swore it off. (I was *really* upset with the way Season 3 turned out! And to think my new favorite character gave the order to kill my old favorite character!)

Mooncove, try House, he`s fit for us :-) First of all it`s not MEDICAL show in the common sens of this word. It`s not like "Emergency" or Gray`s Anatomy. It`s more like a puzzle action, where Mr. House is against all over the world, his colleagues, his patients and himself. You can love him. He is bad, and he is so good.

I've been lurking awhile so I suppose it's time I contributed something... ;D I first saw Michael on The Practice when I was in high school. I just happened to spot him while flipping through the channels one night after finishing my homework and I have been a fan ever since, although I didn't know his name until I finally looked him up on imdb. I kept an eye out for him after that and he seemed to keep popping up on different tv shows. Lost premiered while I was in college and when I recognized him in Rousseau's net I thought to myself, this is going to be brilliant.

Hmm... I think I saw Michael for the first time in Without a Trace. It must have been so because I watched every episode on season one when they aired it here in Finland, but awfully I couldn't remember Michael from that series. (Even though the episode seemed familiar when I watched it again.) But where I first noticed Michael...Easy answer: Lost. I was a huge Lost fan since from the beginning and thought that it couldn't get better. But it did! Me and my friend were speechless after seeing "One of Them". It made us both Michael fans.

Hello, finally I've found some time to send a post. You woudn't believe how hard Polish students have to work!
(possible spoilers below)
I first saw Michael in Lost. I was amazed how good he is, but I didn't like Benjamin then. I think I started to like him after his "daugher" was killed and I realized that there's more to this character than meets the eye. Anyway, I love his eyes :-D And my mum is afraid of him :-D I can't understand why most girls/women prefer Jack or Sawyer :-P

hi, I'm new around these parts = I first saw Michael in an episode of X-Fi;es but only recently really began to appreciate his work as an actor (LOST) I never watched private practice or I would have been on the band wagon long ago.
