Hello folks,
New here...I actually stumbled upon this place by accident. I was reading up on some old pals in community theatre back home when I got a wee bit of a surprise...I kept wondering why that fellow in the Saw and Lost looked so darn familiar...So I thought I would stop in and drop a few words of praise for a fellow I have seen act live in real time and a fellow I interacted with during my stint in community theatre.
Let's just say I've been a fan of Mike long long long long before he was on the big...and little screen. I used to work at the same community theatre he did. The first time I saw him he was at my flat building visiting my upstairs neighbor and practicing for the play he was working on, which was Les Liaisons dangereuses. He played the lead brilliantly! He was always a nice fellow and an amazing stage actor. One of the best I've seen...so my question is where can I pass along my congrats to Mike! The last time I saw him was when he was doing "Parts Unknown" in Jax....one of the best plays I think I've ever seen.
Congrats Mike and I'm glad you broke...now let's see where I can potter about and send you my personal congrats...

Shucks guys, thanks for all your kind welcomes. Yep, I saw him on the stage. In those days he worked in local productions at Theatre Jax (which is features in the videos from the Jacksonville Film Festival and where I volunteered for years doing behind the scenes things), Players-by-the Sea, as well as teaching theatre at Jacksonville University. My drama teacher directed him in a few productions and I knew him from the theatre scene, not intimately, but we usually stopped and talked if we saw each other in passing between productions or crew parties or what have.
This really came as a surprise to me. I'd seen Saw and caught flickers of Lost thinking that gent looks so familiar, then last night I stumbled across Mike's name and boom. It's kinda funny when you knew someone before they were famous...Either way I'm real happy for him. Mike had a presence on stage that was...commanding. I truly believe it is what makes him a better actor than most. Doing stage is different than TV...no retakes. You have to know how to command and lead your audience and get them to hang on to your words as well as convey the subtleties. Mike was excellent at that!

Is he shy in person? I remember some interview where he said there's two types of actors, one where their personality is larger than life, or the kind where you come alive onstage (he thinks he's the latter). True?
Yeah, big welcome! ;D

Yeah, big welcome! ;D Thanks for the welcome henryrocks. Was Michael shy in person? I don't recall him being dreadfully shy but he was a quiet fellow. It wasn't like people would have to pull a conversation out of him. He wasn't that shy. Dreadfully shy would be like Emma Thompson's character in Peter's Friends. It's been 15 years so...but my memories recall a low key, nice fellow who was witty. You'd never guess he could command an audience so well if you met him in person off stage and didn't know him. He wasn't the kind of chap where if you were in a room with him, was not the loudest by all means. He was very reserved in some respects...perhaps low key is the term but when he got on stage, complete transformation. He never had an ego that was so big it wouldn't fit into the room. He always seemed pretty down to earth to me. It seems now, even as he has risen to fame, with the accompanying fandom, that he's still a down to earth kinda fellow. I was a teenager in those days and to me Micheal was "a big deal." He had talent and was one of the best theatre actors in town at the time. You could say I was a little intimidated by the name at first (I had no idea the fellow I had been saying hi to for weeks that was visiting my neighbor was Mike...didn't know that), but when you meet him, you find he doesn't have that ego and he's really down to earth and a human being (unlike some other actors I've known). I do remember when I he left for Alabama. I asked around about him, cos I hadn't seen him in a while...he had been strangely absent at a few of the plays we had put on....and was told he struck out to Alabama. Even then I knew it was a good move. The man had talent and I could only wish him the best. Look at where it got him!

Thanks for the welcome fylimar . I've been out of the theatre scene for a good 14 years now. These days I float among the dead studying skeletons....Even that has drama....shocking I know, but it does! I miss theatre though and have thought about returning to it in the future .
