MEFB staff feels that this is an important subject, so please do read this post and try to help us out with this. We've always been a board that relies on cooperation, and you've all been so respectful of guidelines in the past, we're hopeful this can be an easy issue to solve with a little bit of self-moderation.
2. If you must be super-excited and worshippy, please do so on the Fancrazy board. It's meant for less informative, more crush-related posts. Note that anything 18+ will be immediately removed.
Some of you may have missed this guideline from the Welcome/Rules thread or gotten the wrong impression because we haven't been at all strict with enforcing it. That's because there are many differences when it comes to what people think is acceptable. There are huge differences when it comes to how much each person here feels it's necessary to moderate their own posts or in some cases "restrict" what they're saying.
The MEFB is a place of expression and creativity, and we try to be pretty lax about moderating what is said here.
Let me give you a little background so you understand where I'm coming from.
When the MEFB was first created, most posts were about Michael's talent as an actor, about exploring his works, about finding new projects or information, about discussion. It was similar to what you see in the posts where we discuss what happens in each of Michael's LOST episodes.
Of course, most of us were also fascinated by Michael's looks. It was decided then that we should have a board dedicated to sharing our...giddyness. Appearance-related thoughts. Whatever was on our minds about our crush, Mr. Emerson. That's when Fancrazy was born: so that there would be a place of retreat, where we could talk more freely and not worry about bringing a more "intelligent" conversation into the gutter with our minds.
That worked for a while, but once Michael's fan base expanded, we gained a wider range of personalities, things snowballed a bit, and you can now find crush-related replies on every board here, probably in the majority of threads.
We didn't try to contain that problem (or even consider it much of a problem). We let it go, because as I said before, it's a place of expression and we don't want to be Nazis about stuff.
The MEFB is now a place where you can talk about what you find attractive about Michael, Michael's characters, any other actor or any other actor's characters...on and on and on. And that's okay. It's not what we used to be, but we've evolved into it, and it has helped make us a big, fun community. We don't need to go back to what we were years ago.
That said, we have two requests of you:
1) That you try harder to keep crush-related posts and replies on the Fancrazy board (or if it's about another actor, the Off-Topic board). The picture board is also acceptable, since it's kind of unavoidable to talk about Michael's appearance there!
2) That you do not cross the 18+ line.
What we're saying with the first request is this: We don't want every thread to invariably turn into "look at Michael's this/that/other thing, isn't he sexy". When one person takes a thread in that direction, more and more people follow. That doesn't mean you shouldn't express yourself. You can easily take the discussion over to Fancrazy in whatever way you please.
We also don't want the MEFB to turn into an adult fantasy forum. Why? That's not our purpose. It's not what we were created to be, and it's not what we want the place to turn into. Other communities serve their purpose, we serve ours.
We're open to younger users. We're open to people who are not sexually attracted to Mr. Emerson. Please respect them.
If you want to go somewhere that allows less restriction in this area, check out the following links:

community.livejournal.com/bens_bookclub
(If you have any links to add, let us know. We're more than happy to link to you.)
Many members of the MEFB are also members of those communities.
There's no reason we can't work together. We simply serve different purposes.
If you have any questions, let us know.
We're not doing strict rules here, so don't worry about getting in trouble. There will be times when none of us know whether this or that crosses the line. It's not a big deal. We just ask that you use a little self-moderation. If that doesn't work out, the staff will get a little more involved, but again, we're following guidelines, not martial law.
