Jo stared blankly at Zoe. It took her a moment to figure out how to answer without appearing completely insane. She decide to leave Boone out of the conversation, at least for now. Zoe and Asiah would never respect her medical advice if they knew she was following a ghost around the island.
"I was foraging, and got a little lost, then I heard gunshots and followed the sound, and ended up here...Zoe, you do recognize this place, don't you? We've been here before!"
Zoe nodded, but remained silent. After all the time Jo had spent with Locke and Boone, learning everything about the island, Zoe knew it was unlikely Jo was telling the truth about being lost, but she didn't let on.
Jo gestured towards Asiah, who was busily snooping around the Dharma station. "Why do you want to find her people? What makes you think they're even on this island?" Jo spoke in a very low tone so Asiah wouldn't hear.
"She knows more about this island than she lets on," Zoe responded mysteriously. "And I need answers. I need to know who Ethan was, and why he kidnapped us." Her eyes flashed with anger. "Don't you need answers, Jo? Don't you want to know why your former fiance is with them?" Zoe spat the last word out venomously.
A sudden chill crept over Jo. She did need answers. Being in this place jogged her memory, and she now remembered that Chase was one of the people who had held her and Zoe and Claire captive for days. Or was it weeks? He had helped them escape - and had he been punished for it? Conflicting emotions flooded her mind. She closed her eyes and swayed slightly, feeling faint. She was furious with Ethan and the others who had kept her and her friends for days that had been erased from her mind, from all their minds. She was angry with Jack, for not being able to prevent it. She was grateful to Chase, and even felt desire to see him, to know he was all right...but above all she wanted revenge. She had to agree with Zoe; answers were what they needed.
"I don't trust her," Jo nodded at Asiah. "We need to watch her. But you're right..." Jo took a deep breath. "We need answers, and right now she's our best bet. But first, you have to let me take care of you and Asiah. You're dehydrated and won't make it far without proper food and rest. Then we'll take it from there, okay?"
Zoe reluctantly agreed.
"And Zoe?" Jo continued, trying to hide a sheepish smile. "I'm actually kind of grateful you knocked Kate out. She's had that coming for a while."

Day 43 (Night)
Aisah looked through the drawers set on the far wall of the back room, but she couldn't find anything useful. She thought the medical station would be the best bet, but it seemed the Hostiles kept a tight ship. She heard the two women behind her whispering, and decided she better go see what they were up to. Aisah took one last cursory sweep of the final drawer and slammed it closed, then walked over to Zoe and Jo.
"I'm taking Zoe and you back to camp for rest," Jo told her as she arrived beside them, "then you tell us what you know about the Others."
Aisah froze and glared at Zoe, "You were not supposed to tell anyone. I am done with this," She turned her heel to exit the station, trying to appear confident when the dread of that monster in the jungle surged through her.
Zoe and Jo looked at each other. Jo was about to go after Aisah when Zoe pulled her back, "Wait, we can follow her."
Jo shook her head, "you need to eat and rest before we do anything. We can stop her-"
"So she can lead us into a trap?" Zoe insisted.
"What if this is a trap?" Jo said. Zoe sighed and stood back. Jo nodded and they headed out of the station.
When they reached the door they realized the sun already set. It was barely light enough to see, but the faint glow of a torch was up ahead. They froze in their tracks. Was it Aisah? They darted behind a patch of undergrowth and moved silently to get a better look. The torch illuminated brighter, and they could make out a figure.
"Is it the Others?" Zoe whispered, heart racing. Jo squinted and spied a long object in the figure's hands, the torch planted firmly in the ground. The figure was thin and ragged with long curled hair.
"I think it's the French woman!" Jo whispered back.
"Don't move!" Rousseau shouted. Jo and Zoe started, then realized she wasn't talking to them. They crept closer and saw a second figure, whose face was dimly lit several feet away by the radiating torch. It was Aisah.
"She's going to kill her if we don't do something," Jo crouched low. Zoe refrained from making a callous remark.
Aisah stood with her hands held high in submission, "I am sorry please do not hurt me," Aisah wondered if she should just wear a tee-shirt emblazoned with these words. Her wondering was cut off by another command from the tall woman.
"Tell me what you are doing here alone," Rousseau barked, "You never travel alone."
"I do not understand," Aisah took a small step back, "I just want to go back to the beach. I crashed here on an airplane a month ago with forty other people-"
"Do not lie to me," Rousseau cocked the rifle and Aisah lost her breath.
"Wait!" Someone called from the bushes. Rousseau swung her weapon towards to voice, "Do not fire! Are you Rousseau? I am a friend of Sayid."
Rousseau held the rifle firmly, and glanced at the bushes behind Jo, "who is that with you? Stand up."
Zoe slowly rose and spoke tentatively, "Hurley said you gave us the battery for the raft. Thank you."
Rousseau cocked her head, then slowly lowered her gun, "what are you doing out here at night?"
"We all got lost. We've been trying to get back to the beach," Jo hoped she soundest honest, eying the rifle. They'd have to cover for Aisah too if they wanted to keep her alive.
Rousseau panned her gaze over the three helpless looking women, "It is too late to travel. Your friend looks sick," she gestured to Zoe, "you may camp with me tonight. I was heading to your beach in order to warn you."
"Of what?" Zoe asked, stealing a glance at Aisah.
"The Others are coming," Rousseau said.

"We don't need to go back to camp to rest, or eat, or drink!" Zoe argued to Jo hotly when Aisah came over to find out their plan, before Aisah had time to tell her off for filling Jo in on everything. Of course, Aisah didn't understand that Jo was under pretty much the same prediciment as she was. They both yearned for answers, although Zoe was clearly much more obsessed about it.
But before Jo could object to Zoe's argument, Aisah stormed off out the station and into the jungle. After another qucik bable of bickering, Jo and Zoe followed Aisah to be confronted by the french woman. Zoe rolled her eyes. Yet another delay into getting to where she needed. Zoe was too busy muttering curses under her breath to pay attention to what Jo said. It was only when Rousseau started to speak, Zoe paid a little more attention. Zoe glowered at Rousseau. Why did everyone need to stick their nose in on her buisness.
Her mood changed quickly however at the mention of Rousseau going to the beach camp to warn them.
"Of what?" Zoe asked curiously.
"The Others are coming." Rousseau replied. Zoe thought quickly, and started marching off into the jungle. Jo followed after her.
"Zoe. Wait. Where are you going?" Jo asked her.
"Back to camp." Zoe replied quickly. If the Others were coming, she wanted to be there to greet them, first with a fist, the next with a ton of questions.
"No - wait. Zoe, please. Stop. We should rest. Get some food and water, and head back in the morning." Jo told her.
"What changed your mind?" Zoe asked shortly. "You were all up for going back to camp just a minute ago."
"You heard Rousseau. It's too dangerous. We should wait until morning." Jo replied reasonably.
"I don't want to do that." Zoe replied stubbornly.
"Zoe. Come on. You're clearly exhausted, god knows when you last had food, and you are dehydrated. You could pass out at any minute. If you collapse out there in the jungle, anything could happen." Jo tried to talk some sense in to her. "It's a wonder you haven't passed out already.
Zoe bit her lip to stop herself telling Jo that had already happened, which ended up with her being handcuffed to a bed...again. She sighed heavily, and continued onward through the jungle.
"Zoe! Where are you going?" Jo shouted after her.
"Back to camp." Zoe called back. "You wanna come. Come." Zoe didn't wait for Jo's answer though, she continued walking, it was dark, and yeah, pretty dangerous, the nicest of the worse probably to get captured by the Others, which she didn't mind right now. She'd take that option if it meant getting the answers she wanted. The worse...well, that scary smoke monster thing. But there was nothing anyone could do to stop that. It was a factor of life on the island she was just going to have to accept.

Jo stood blinking in disbelief as the sound of Zoe's footsteps faded away. She felt torn; sticking with the enigmatic stranger Asiah seemed her best chance at reuniting with Chase again and finally getting answers, but it worried her that Zoe was traipsing all alone in her weakened state. As much as Zoe fought it, she would eventually have to give in to it. Jo wasn't keen on Zoe's stubbornness, but she did consider Zoe a friend and the thought of her collapsing in the jungle, alone, terrified her.
Just then Asiah spoke and startled her. "What are you thinking, Jo?"
Jo whirled around to face her. How long had she been standing there, watching and waiting?
Jo shook her head and sighed heavily. "I'm going after Zoe. You are free to go, Asiah. There is nothing keeping you here with me."
Asiah cocked her head and chewed her lip thoughtfully. "Your people will be angry."
Jo nodded. "I'll deal with them." With that, she turned towards the direction that Zoe had just taken and set off for the survivor's camp.

Zoe continued walking through the jungle, her head was banging, and she felt slightly dizzy, so she took a bottle of water out her back pack, pausing briefly so she could take a drink. Her mood lifting slightly to a better one at the thought that soon she would get her answers. The Others were on their way, and perhaps if she was really lucky, she would run into them on the way.
She knew there was going to be some hostility from a few of the camp members once she got back to camp. Kate for one, afterall, she had hit her over the head and knocked her out, and no doubt Jack will have something to say about that as well as their torturer.
As her minded drifted thinking about camp again, her mind went back to Charlie for the first time in days, about how much she cared for him, but he was totally clueless, focusing all his energy on that young blonde mum Claire. Zoe sighed and let the memory float out of her head again as to not feel the pain it caused her.
Zoe then heard footsteps approaching in the direction behind her. She turned and his herself quietly behind a tree, she knew there was a possibility that it was Jo, but as she had taken a little while to make her decision, and amongst that, the dangers that were in the jungle, she had to be cautious, so Zoe remained cautious, and listened intentively.

Carrie stopped playing the piano momentarily, as she heard someone approach behind her. She felt a soft, tender kiss touch her head.
"Don't stop," said a familiar voice. "It's beautiful."
Carrie smiled as Richard sat down next to her. "I'm trying to remember a song I wrote about ten years ago."
"And can you?"
Carrie hesitated her reply as she looked into Richard's eyes. She felt his hand lift up and stroke her face. He smiled, and leaned in to kiss her. Carrie was lost then, lost in a world where nothing else mattered. She didn't care about crashed planes or fertility issues. She didn't care about remembering her music. Because what she was experiencing was far more beautiful than any song - it was just her and Richard, lost in their own private world, where nobody could touch them. She felt his hand travel from the side of her face to her neck, and his thumb gently carressed her jawline. His other hand moved on to her waist, pulling her closer to him. As he did so, she rest her hand on his chest, as her other lay upon his leg. The pair continued to embrace each other; time seemed to stop, and they heard nothing from outside.
Carrie slowly pulled her lips away from Richard's, however the pair did not move, merely stared into each other's eyes, adoring one another. After what seemed like an eternity, Carrie opened her mouth to speak.
"I can now."

Jo followed Zoe's trail as closely as possible but at some point it simply seemed to vanish. At that exact moment the flashlight she had hastily grabbed from the Staff flickered and went out. Jo shook it to bring it back to life, which it did, but only for the briefest of moments before it faded permanently. She was left in complete darkness.
Jo listened for Zoe's footsteps but heard nothing. Sighing heavily, she moved forward into the silent night. As her eyes adjusted to the dark she could make out the silhouettes of trees. She spotted a wide banyan tree that would provide protection from - well, whatever might be out there - for the night. As she moved toward it her foot caught on a root and she flew forward. She found herself tumbling down a steep, rocky ravine. Finally, she landed at the bottom. Her screams pierced the silent darkness as she felt a bone in her leg snap and blinding pain invaded her body.
In the moments before she lost consciousness she gazed about her. Everything appeared blurry, and her mind was hazy, but she still recognized her surroundings: she had landed by the plane that had killed Boone. She groaned and blinked as a fire torch approached her. Within minutes someone was standing over her, whispering to others who had circled her with torches. Her heart pounded in sheer panic. "Help me Jack..." was all she could force out of her mouth.
The figure standing above her spoke gruffly. She knew the voice. "She's one of them. She escaped from the Staff with the other two. Pick her up," he ordered the others. "We'll bring her back to Ben."
Jo couldn't even protest. She had already passed out.

Carrie opened her eyes slowly, and sensed almost immediately that she was being watched. She looked up and smiled to see Richard, looking down at her adoringly as she rest her head upon his chest.
"Morning," he said with a smile.
"Back at you." Carrie pushed herself further up Richard's body, her head now level with his. She lifted her right hand and adoringly stroked his face, just as he had done the day before, at the piano. She smiled again, kissing him softly. Carrie felt him kiss her back, and knew that he, too, was remembering the previous night's events.
As Carrie was writing down her music, Richard had given her a quick kiss on the cheek and left her to it. Where he had gone to, Carrie didn't know. Nor was she going to ask, for it was common for Richard to suddenly disappear - usually because Ben needed him. Although she wondered where he had gone, she didn't worry.
After finishing the notation, Carrie went to put the music sheets on the desk. They were all in a random order, due to the way she had been writing. As she shuffled them back into position, she smiled as she felt Richard's arms wrap around her waist, and his beautiful, soft lips connected with her shoulder. Putting her papers down, she closed her eyes and smiled to herself, absorbing the warm feeling of Richard's body pressed against hers.
"Are you finished now?" Richard asked her softly.
"Yeah," Carrie replied, opening her eyes again and turning her head to look into his beautiful, dark eyes. "Yeah, I'm done."
"Good," Richard smiled mischeviously. Carrie smiled back and he leant in to kiss her softly. She lifted her hand up and cupped his jaw, while he gently carressed her waistline. She turned her body round fully to face him, and wrapped both her arms around his neck. As she did so, his arms snaked down her back and Carrie felt his hands slide into her pants. Their kiss then become more passionate, and Carrie started unbuttoning Richard's shirt as fast as she could, and he slipped her t-shirt above her head and cast it aside. Richard lifted her up and carried her to their bedroom.
With a thump, the pair fell onto the bed and, with furious passion and lust for one another, tore off the rest of their clothes.
Carrie pulled away from the kiss, and once again stared adoringly into her boyfriend's eyes. They had been together now for over five years. Prior to coming to the Island, Carrie had just gained her Psychology degree, with full marks in all her examinations - needless to say, she had been top of her class. She had been searching fruitlessly for a position somewhere, but was unsuccessful - although she was talented in her profession, nobody wanted someone who had only just graduated from university. Then, after 3 months of unemployment, she was approached by a Mr Richard Alpert, who said he represented Mittelos Bioscience - Carrie knew now, of course, that it was a fake company, and Richard had been recruiting her for the Island. She had accepted straight away, happy that she had finally landed a decent job - and more importantly, she would never be able to speak to her mother again.
Soon after arriving on the Island, Carrie and Richard had quickly fallen for each other. After a few weeks of flirting from both sides, one night they were discussing the psychological state of a fellow Other - Carrie could no longer remember who it was they were discussing, nor did it matter - when one thing led to another, and Carrie ended up confessing to Richard everything about her past - about her mother's abuse, her father leaving, and how she had been convinced by her mother that she was worthless. Upon hearing this, Richard had simply turned her head towards him, informed her that she wasn't worthless, and kissed her.
They had officially become an item at that point, and had been together ever since. Now they lay in bed together, both semi-naked, still as much in love as ever. As Richard carressed Carrie's face, he leant forwards and whispered softly in her ear.
"I love you."

Zoe remained as silent as possible, although finding it difficult to control the heavy sounds of her breathing, she noticed a type of flash light light scanning the area as if someone was in searching, then it suddenly flickered and went out all together. Zoe held her breath for a moment as she grit her teeth.
Zoe was now very aware at how dark it was, and her eyes strained to see, but she could hear footsteps, they started to walk away from her. It must be Jo she thought, she had a torch afterall, it must have gone out on her, she was sure the Others would have some sort of unfailing light aid with them, and she could only hear one pair of footsteps, the likelyhood of Others travelling alone was slim - unless it was an Ethan situation.
Suddenly a different set of sounds followed - someone had tripped, and they fell more then the distance from standing to the floor, she heard rocks and small stones tumble.
"Jo? Zoe called out worriedly. She reached her hands out to the silhoute of the trees and walked steadily now, she didn't want to trip over either, a high pitched scream peirced the silent nights sky. A strange lonlieness followed along with panic. The silence she began to realise. It wasn't normal. There were no movement of branches in the night's breeze, sounds of bugs or birds around, even the wind was silent. Something wasn't right.
A soft glow or orange light then appeared in a downwards direction not far infront of her. Zoe gingerly moved forward to stare down a ravine, trickily hidden in the darkness, she could feel loose rocks beneath her feet, so she clung as tightly as she could onto the nearest tree again. She witheld herself from gasping as she saw a small group of Others surrounding Jo's lifeless body.
"...She escaped from the Staff with the other two. Pick her up," he ordered the others. "We'll bring her back to Ben." One of them declared as another started to scoop Jo up into their arms. When the one that spoke first mentioned Ben, the name suddenly became strangely familiar.
The rocks beneath her feet became more loose, causing some to fall down the ravine, the circle of Others looked up, straining to see, Zoe's eyes reflecting from the light of their torches. They had spotted her, Zoe's heart skipped a beat as she took a few steps back cautiously.
"Catch up with her! Don't let her get away!" One of them barked loudly. Zoe turned and ran, dodging trees as she ran through the darkness, she heard something fly past her. A bullet. Zoe stopped full in her tracks. She had no aid to guide her anywhere anyway, and wasn't this what she wanted??
"STOP!" Zoe suddenly shouted, and she put her arms slowly in the air in surrender. "I give up!" She declared. The eerie silence suddenly surrounded her again.
"There's a good girl." She heard someone whisper, and something whistled through the air and peirced the skin of her neck painfully, it felt like a dart, and she began to loose all feeling in her body, she feel to the ground, blinking slowly as someone walked over to her in ragged worn clothes which didn't look like any shop type lable, the heavy breath of whoever it was rickahashaded off her face as they lifted her up over their shoulders and carried her away, all in the meanwhile she slipped into unconciousness.

Jo woke up in a comfortable bed, her right angle tightly bandaged and an IV dripped much needed painkillers into her arm. She felt light-headed and groggy, but it was not a terribly unpleasant feeling. She glanced around her new surroundings and, in her drugged state, it seemed like the most natural thing in the world to see Dr. Chase sitting by her bed.
"Hello Chase," she slurred her words. "I think I've missed you."
Chase smiled awkwardly. "It's good to see you too, Jo."
"What's happened?"
"You broke your ankle, and my people found you. You're safe here. You'll be staying with us until you recover, or longer if Ben still wants you to join the medical research team. He'll be by shortly to meet with you."
"Ahhh, well...at least I'm not handcuffed to a locker room bench this time around," she joked in response. "Thanks for that."
Chase raised his eyebrow quizzically. "So you do remember, after all?"
Jo nodded, but smiled and placed her hand on his arm reassuringly. "I won't hold it against you. But Chase, I can't stay here. You know that, right?"
Chase shook his head. "It's really not up to you, Jo."

With a sigh of relief, Carrie finally put her pen down and sat back. She looked at her paper - her tiny handwriting had filled a whole page. A report this long, anyone would think the patient was crazy. But in fact, the report was on the survivors - several times, she had gone to the very edge of the jungle, and silently observed them. She had, several times, felt herself pitying them. Here she was, watching them like they were animals in a zoo, while they struggled to survive. It made her feel guilty, that they also had to cope with some of them being abducted, and she was one of the people who was part of that. But, she reassured herself, she had never been part of the actual abductions. All she had done was watch them.
Carrie ran a hand through her hair, a habit from a mixture of stress and exhaustion. She hoped Ben would be happy with the report - she wouldn't be able to do it again. Carrie looked up, and saw that it was almost dark. Yawning, she picked up the report and put it on the side. Ben would have to wait until the next morning to read it. Right now, all Carrie desired was to go to bed. But she didn't want to - Richard had gone off somewhere a few hours ago and still wasn't back. She went into the kitchen and made herself a glass of water to keep her awake - she didn't like coffee.
Just then, Richard finally arrived back. "Carrie, I need your help," he said.
Carrie raised an eyebrow. "What for?"
"The two survivors that escaped us, they're wandering around in the jungle. We need to go get them."
Carrie hesitated. "Why do you need me?"
"Because," replied Richard, "you were the first person I thought of."
Smiling, Carrie followed him out.
Out in the jungle, Carrie and Richard quietly made their way to where the two survivors had been seen. "Look," Carrie whispered, "it looks like they ran off this way." She pointed to a sloping pathway.
"How do you know?"
"The twigs are broken. And the bits that have broken off are right next to where they were joined before, which means they were broken only recently."
Richard looked at Carrie. "Now that's clever."
"That's why you hired me," she grinned.
The two of them set off down the path, trying not to make any noise. Carrie had gone into what she called spy mode - she didn't think about the fact she was in love with the man she was with. All she was thinking about was what she had to do.
There was a noise suddenly - Carrie heard someone slip and fall. She and Richard quickly went down and stopped when they saw the unconcious body of a woman Carrie recognised - she was one of the survivors, who she had observed so often.
Carrie looked at Richard. She didn't know if this was who they were looking for.
Nodding, Richard said, "she escaped from the staff with the other two. Pick her up, we'll bring her back to Ben."
Carrie immediately scooped up the body. She heard the slight sound of rocks falling in the trees to her right, and immediately flashed her torch in the direction of the noise. She saw another survivor, her eyes burning orange from the light of the torch. Carrie recognised her from when she had been observing - her name was Zoe.
Shocked, Zoe began to back away slowly. Then suddenly she broke into a run, sprinting at full speed in the opposite direction, downhill.
"Catch up with her! Don't let her get away!" Carrie exclaimed. Instinctively, she lifted up her gun and shot at the disappearing figure, as Richard chased after her.
"Stop!" Zoe shouted, and Carrie saw her arms go up in surrender. "I give up."
All was silent for a second. Carrie heard Richard mutter something under his breath. There was the familiar sound of a tranquilizer dart, and Zoe callapsed. Richard picked her up and climbed back up to Carrie.
"Come on," he said. "Let's get these two back to Ben before they wake up."
Carrie reached up and pulled the dart out of Zoe's neck. "Don't give her too much," she said.
Carrie and Richard arrived 15 minutes later outside Ben's house. Richard knocked. A few seconds later, Ben opened the door. He looked unphased to see the two of them, standing outside his door, carrying two of the survivors.
"We found them," Richard said.
"Good," smiled Ben. "Sit them on a couple of chairs and tie them up."

All the while Zoe was unconcious, Dr Chase had been over to check over on the plan survivors, Ben agreed to let Chase take Jo away to treat her injuries from her fall from the ravine, but with the promise to lock her up once she was sorted and await for her to wake up, and when she did, to call him right away.
"I want this one taken to the Hyrda. She was the one behind the escape, no thanks to the help of that crazy derranged French woman, but we can't risk her escaping again until we can trust her to work for us. Take the sub, I just need to sort some things here first, just make sure you can make her as comfortable as possible till I can join you at the Hyrda, ok?" Ben instructed Richard. Richard nodded and began to untie Zoe again. "Oh, and Richard? You better give her an extra shot of tranquilizer. Best not let her wake up on your journey there, huh?"
Richard agreed and injected extra tranquilizer into a vein in her arm and lifted her over her shoulders, and he and Carrie left Ben's and headed for the sub. Upon arrival to the other island, the pair headed straight for the Hyrda, Richard lay Zoe on the table in the same room as Jack would be locked up in in months to come, unknown to them yet from Ben's careful formulating plans.
"We best leave her till she wakes up, we can both wait in the security room, we can keep an eye on her on the security monitors till then." Richard told Carrie, and they left Zoe alone, locked in the room, still unconcious.
It was three hours later Zoe began to wake, her back was aching from being layed out on a hard surface, above her, she saw a range of disturbing looking chains, they looked cold and meanacing. She sat up, her head hurting a little, and took in her surroundings. She was in what appeared to be a large room. Zoe slid off the table, noticing an open door just ahead of her, she walked with confidence and determination.
"Hello?" She called out loudly, getting about halfway across the room before she banged into a wall of reinforced glass which covered an entire side of her cell. "Son of a bitch!" She muttered to herself and kicked the reinforced wall.
"HEY!" She shouted towards the door that appeared open. She saw another door - one that led out her cell, but knew it would be locked. It was then she noticed a camera with a red light flashing, it covered the scene of her entire cell. She glared at it. "HEY!" She shouted again, trying to grab anyones attention if they were watching.

"She's awake," Richard said. Carrie looked over at the screen, knowing he was talking about Zoe. Carrie herself had fallen asleep a few times over the last few hours. Richard, however, seemed unphased by the late hour.
Surely enough, Zoe had sat up, and walked straight into the glass. Carrie laughed. "Do they all do that?"
Richard smiled. "Most of them. Could you bring her some food and water? Ben wouldn't be happy if she died of starvation."
"Sure," Carrie stood up. She leant over and gave Richard a kiss. "I love you," she said, smiling.
"I love you too," Richard smiled back. They kissed again, and Carrie went off to feed the survivor.
Carrie was surprised to find the door was open. Her and Richard must have forgotten to close it. Ben wouldn't be impressed if he knew. Then again, Ben never seemed impressed with Carrie. Perhaps he didn't like the thought of his advisor being 'distracted' by a relationship. Distracted, my left butt cheek, thought Carrie, sometimes he seems more interested in the Island than me.
Carrie went closed the door behind her using her foot, both her hands being full of food and drink. She looked over at the cell, and saw Zoe turn around. She seemed scared for a moment, then realised she was safe behind a glass wall.
"What do you want?" Zoe asked. Charming, Carrie thought.
"I've brought you some food and water," Carrie said.
"I don't want it. You've probably poisoned it."
Carrie looked at her curiously. "And why would I do that?"
"Because that's what you people do, isn't it?" Zoe looked at her vemenously. "You eradicate anyone that isn't in your little social group."
"Zoe, if we did that, we'd've shot you all down weeks ago." Carrie wasn't surprised by Zoe's attitude. She'd've reacted the same.
There was a pause. "How do you know my name?"
Carrie then realised her careless use of Zoe's name. How foolish. "I've been watching you. All of you."
"You've been watching us? What, like we're animals at a zoo?"
Carrie sighed. "Don't go thinking I didn't think the same about it."
"Why did you do it then?"
"It's my job."
Zoe snorted. "What are you, Chief Spy?"
Carrie smiled slightly. "No, I'm a psychologist. Look, if you're not gonna eat the sandwich, can I at least leave it in your cell? Richard won't be pleased if I leave it out here."
"Who's Richard?"
Carrie didn't reply. "Can you sit in the corner, please."
"What?"
"Sit in the corner. While I come in. Please."
Zoe reluctantly went over to the corner opposite the door and sat down. Carrie opened the door within the glass and placed the plate and glass down on the table. She immediately jumped to her right and grabbed the figure she knew was diving for escape.
"Let me go!" Zoe struggled against Carrie's tight grip on her.
"I could," said Carrie calmly. "But there'd be no point."
"I could go back to my friends. Why not try for a bit of compassion for once?" Zoe looked at her venemously.
Carrie looked at her plainly. "No, you couldn't. We're not on the main island anymore. We're on a smaller island, just offshore. So if I did let you escape, you'd have nowhere to run."
Zoe relaxed her attempts to get free for half a second. But half a second was all it took. Quick as a whistle, Carrie reached around Zoe's neck and pressed down on her two pressure points, briefly paralyzing her. Carrie pushed her onto the table and tied her up in the chains.
After she let go of Zoe's neck, Zoe said, "what the hell was that?"
"Pressure points. Paralyze your victim."
"Victim, alright," Zoe muttered.
"Carrie, are you alright?"
Carrie turned around to see Richard standing in the glass doorway. She smiled.
"All under control."

Jo heard a knock on the door and watched from the bed as Chase scurried to open it. A man with spiky hair and wide eyes sauntered in, carrying a pair of crutches. Jo recognized him from the Staff, and remembered his name was Ben. He had a few words with Chase, then headed towards the bedroom where Jo was, closing the door behind him. He placed the crutches against the wall, plunked his messenger bag on the floor beside him and sat down in the chair by Jo's bed. He gave her a pleasant smile, revealing a pair of dimples that she found rather endearing.
"Hello, Joanna." Ben said pleasantly.
The painkillers were beginning to wear off and Jo winced as she became more and more aware of her broken ankle. Ben immediately stood and replaced the empty IV bag with a fresh one.
Jo nodded her thanks. "I remember you, Ben."
"I'm glad you decided to return to us. We can use your talents here. Has Chase filled you in on our medical research?" He didn't wait for an answer. "Once you've recovered from your accident you'll be working with him and Juliet. I think you'll fit right in."
Jo shook her head resolutely. "No. I won't stay."
Ben's pleasant smile returned, but his eyes were cold and calculating. "You don't have a choice. You're one of us now."
"I'll escape," Jo warned. "I know this island very well. I'll find a way. "
Ben gestured towards the crutches. "You won't get far. And even if you did, we have a security fence in place that will sizzle your brain if you even try. You'd be much better off with us, believe me. You do like puzzles, don't you?" Ben dug into his messenger bag and pulled out a medical file folder. He handed it to Jo, who flipped through it halfheartedly.
"You made a name for yourself solving medical mysteries. The island brought you to us for a reason; you're here to solve our mysteries now. When you're ready, I'll bring you to meet Juliet." He stood up to go.
"Answer me one question first," Jo growled. "When I was in the Staff, you gave me a list of names, all survivors of the Oceanic crash. Why did you want to know about them? What are you planning to to do to them?"
"You have nothing to worry about, Jo. We're not going to hurt your friends. We're the good guys." He waved as he walked out the door, leaving Jo alone to contemplate her future among these strange Other people. "I'll be seeing you around," he smirked.

Day 50
Zoe's eyes widened in shock, and her draw dropped as the man whom she had met mere months ago appeared int he doorway, concern on his face.
"Richard??" Zoe gasped in disbelief.
"Hello Zoe, how are you doing?" Richard smiled calmly. Zoe felt blood rush to her cheeks with anger.
"You? You are behind all this?" She shouted loudly, and went to attack him, but the chains Carrie has restrained her too tugged her making her stumble.
"Zoe, calm down, you'll hurt yourself." Carrie warned. Zoe spat in her face and glared at her furiously. Carried wiped the spit off her face in disgust.
"So what is this Richard?" Zoe demmanded. "I don't agree to work for you, so you kidnap me?" The chains rattled as she continued to struggle them.
"No, it's not like that at all, but if you just calm down, we can talk like rational human beings." Richard continued calmly.
"And you call chaining me the actions of a rational human being?" Zoe spat.
"Well, until you calm down, yes I do." Richard replied firmly. He beckoned Carrie to follow him as he stepped out the cell and made to leave. "We will be back in a while when you've had a chance for everything to sink in and you can cool down." Without anther word, both Richard and Carrie dissapeared, Zoe and Carrie exchanging furious glares with each other before the cell door was shut and locked.
Zoe then tugged on the chains hard in frustration from being restrained by them, yelling aloud through gritted teeth, she doubted she would be calming down anytime soon.
