In a sense the only person he can better is himself (which sort of puts him in the odd position of berating himself.) LOL!! I'm genuinely torn between Ian and Michael - I'm madly in love with them both!! So if I were an Emmy voter, I would have to be convinced purely on the strength of the episode. Everything you've just said, Mythic, makes perfect sense. My fingers are crossed that at least Ian or Michael take the statue home - we simply can't have a non-Lostie steal their thunder!!! If it is a choice of Ian or Michael, I want Michael to get it. If it is a choice of either Ian or another actor, definitely, I am rooting for Ian.

Michael cannot go up for Best Actor. LOST is an ensemble show, but somehow Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly managed to be the only ones to be able to be nominated for best actor (male and female, respectfully). Just because Lost is considered an ensemble show does not mean it cannot have a lead character. Most (TV) ensemble casts are wrapped around one lead. Or you can think of it this way. Structure-wise Lost has an ensemble cast. However, story-wise Jack is the lead character and hero of the story the Lost writers are telling. They have made this clear in podcasts. When it comes to the Emmys, Matthew is eligible to be a lead character too although I don't know the rules governing that. I think according to the Emmys there is only one lead actor per show per sex. Micheal is also up for being "best actor". His category is different because his role is different. There is no difference however in prestige between getting a supporting versus leading nomination or award. Both are "best actor" awards. Same with guest Emmys. All allow the actor to forever say in their bios- Emmy award winning actor. I don't think there is just one definition of what an ensemble cast has to be. I imagine that each award show has it's own definition of the term. I think Foxy's acting really stepped up when Michael joined the cast. Michael's acting skills were so impressive and his character was written so well he had to! The result has been a much better show. I think Jack was in danger of becoming boring to some and annoying to others. Now he is more defined. The writers have said their favorite character to write for is Ben because of his range of expression. Jack cannot do certain things because he is the hero. But Ben can potentially do anything. They can put him in any situation and see any response. Jack could never do a "milk" scene. Michael just naturally handles those comedic moments so well that he gets most of the best lines. BTW if anyone wants to read the rules that govern the Emmy awards you can download it here. This is off topic but I'm disappearing for a while. I'm having major surgery tomorrow morning (Wednesday June 11) and I don't know how long I have to stay in the hospital afterwards. Last time I had surgery I was offline for 3 months-I can't work or play at the computer when I'm in pain. Hopefully things will go smoother this time. I'm fixing up a box of stuff to take with me: MP3 player with music and ME book, Lost Magazine with ME interview, and a couple of mindless romance novels and my robe and slippers. Now I have to go take my shower with this germicidal bath gel, sleep for 6 hours and then take another shower with the gemicidal bath gel and leave for the hospital. Hope it doesn't smell too bad!

I guess this will be a bit pointless cause you might not be able to see it before you go, but i wish you best of luck with your surgery. Take your time to heal well :-). Hugs!

(Kind of obviously. ) Although I have to say that I thought The Shape of Things to Come was a much better episode than The Constant. (But I find it hard for Desmond-centric episodes to beat Flashed Before Your Eyes for me.)

If we speak about quality of actor's playing, certainly Michael is better than Ian in one thousand times. The viewers likes Ian for romantic love his character to Penny.

I think Ian is really fantastic in Lost, but his character doesn't really get a lot to do other than be perpetually confused/angst filled, especially recently!

Maeve, a huge kiss for you !!! On the other hand, I think that the character of Michael is more difficult than any other. The story about Ian and Penny is romantic, but what about Michael and Juliet ? An impossible love...

Looks like you guys found it just an hour before I did and posted about it on the Lost forum. With no Terry to be nominated, I think some people will wonder if it will hurt Michael ultimately. Many believe Terry won last year partially because he was also a prominent player in Michael's Emmy submission "The Man Behind the Curtain" and got that extra exposure from Emmy voters. This year, if Terry had gotten nominated for "Cabin Fever" Michael would have been showcased there too and that might have given him a bigger edge combined with "The Shape Of Things To Come"[Especially since Cabin features the fickle bitch line and the candy bar sharing] With no Terry, Michael won't get that extra boost from Terry's tape and therefore might have a harder time pulling away from the others. He is featured in Naveen's tape "The Economist" but mostly at the very end and Naveen may have a hard time getting into the finals anyway. So if Michael does get in officially in two weeks, the question that may be asked over the next few months is whether a lack of Bocke could stop him from taking it all.

I just posted my thoughts on this on Bobdoc's new thread...
I'm sad for Ian. I think he is an enormous talent and deserves a nomination (even though I haven't actually seen his S4 episodes!). He'll have his day, though, if not for Lost then his next big adventure. He's here to stay, I think.
We just need to send all our positive thoughts and groovy vibes to Michael so he can bring that little statue home to keep his other statue company!!! ;D ;D ;D

But the episode "The Shape of Things to Come" is such a strong episode and Michael got to play on so many emotional levels, I doubt that he will not be nominated and, moreover, not be a winner.
