Maybe the phrase: "Don't tell me what I can't do!" works here?

After everything New York did to get him there and keep him there, he's theirs.

Michael has won New York Michael has made his destiny himself I lived with a fellow grad student in Astoria - the actors' bedroom. I have not understood - this about Carrie? Or not? It's very interesting for me - what Michael began to do, if his theatrical career did not take place in those two years?

Good post. I'm glad things turned around for him and I'm so glad he stuck with it. He was obviously meant to act. That much talent couldn't be hidden.

Michael has won New York Michael has made his destiny himself [[]] I lived with a fellow grad student in Astoria - the actors' bedroom. I have not understood - this about Carrie? Or not? It's very interesting for me - what Michael began to do, if his theatrical career did not take place in those two years? He said that he lived in Astoria with a roommate—more than likely the rommate was a male. (This was before he was married to Carrie.) Let me explain something about NYC. It is big and consists of 5 boroughs (municipalities). Each borough is large enough to be a city itself: 1. Manhattan (a small island) was the original NYC. It is also where Broadway is located and where Michael now lives. The Empire State Bldg is in Manhattan and the Twin Towers were also. Manhattan is extremely expensive to live in. 2. The Bronx. 3. Queens. This is where Michael once lived. Astoria is a cheaper place to live. I went to high school (equivalent to upper gynmasium) in Queens (Long Island City, which is slightly SE of Astoria) while I was living in Brooklyn. By the way, Astoria is the "actor's bedroom" because it is right across the river at the same latitude as midtown Manhattan (where the theatres are). You can take the subway and be there within minutes. 4. Brooklyn. This is where I lived as a teenager. I started off living in Manhattan when we came to the US (it was not that expensive back then) and moved to Brooklyn where we got more for our money. We moved to the suburbs very soon after we moved to Brooklyn. 5. Staten Island. LG = La Guardia Airport Kennedy = Kennedy International Airport Newark = Newark International Airport L = The island where the Statue of Liberty is. X = The place I lived when my parents moved to the suburbs. Larger version is here: i93.photobucket.com/albums/l58/esbaker/LJ/NYC.png

I had no idea JFK Int'l was so far from Manhattan. I was thinking it was closer. My only trip to Manhattan involved landing at JFK. I paid a driver, something like $12 at the time ('90) for a ride to my hotel in midtown. Maybe that was a good deal afterall.

We went last year and paid less than £30 dollars- its an absolute bargain because to travel from my home to Oxford (the city nearest us; less than 15 miles) is over £40

"Not everybody's on the same timetable. If it's the thing you're meant to do, the question is, 'How long can you hold on to it?' " I love, love, LOVE this quote - it's really inspiring. I think it's so wonderful that not only is Michael an outstanding acting talent, but he is also very eloquent and sincere in his everyday life. He's a rare gem, he is. But we already knew that!

Kennedy is 15 miles from downtown Manhattan. However, it can take up to, and sometimes more than, one hour to get from Kennedy to midtown. The traffic is horrendous in NYC. So paying the amount you paid in the 90s was a bargain. And $30.00 is a bargain as well. The cab driver needs to make a decent living. Rent is not cheap. Not even in any of the other boroughs.

Edith, thanks very much for the geography lesson! I know very little about NYC and the burroughs, but am considering Fordham University for my next grad school adventure, and it's helpful to see where the Bronx fits into the bigger picture. I especially like the arrow pointing towards 'Hawaii'!!

Medieval history. Although I'm a little wary of the city campus - the location seems to be the only drawback for me. Otherwise it's a very attractive program.
Is the campus nice?
