I just finished watching it. Wow. We don't get HBO but I was able to download it in 7 hours Monday morning. This is going to be one of my favorite TV shows (at least until Dexter starts). Wonder how Michael would feel if Carrie had to do a sex scene? Like being tied to that ceiling hook? Yikes. Very explicit sex scenes. All that slappin. Anyone else kind of feel embarrassed knowing ME was watching the same thing?
Great casting for the vamp. Great brooding brow.
I thought Carrie's wig was well done too. Maybe she could tell Lost's make-up department where they get them because I saw a few sad wigs last season (coughclairecough).

the sex scene is was one of two things that turned me off. They don't bother me, the SPX struck me as a bit corny. The other scene was the suggestion that the dog was going to serve as an alternative to humans. I know it's just a show, but I hate any scenes in which animals are depicted as suitable victims for anything. They get victimized enough in real life. Same goes for kids. Can't tolerate that stuff.

I recorded the show, but have not seen it. As an animal activist, I may find it offensive. Unfortunately, as animals are not seen as worthy of having rights, any shows that depict them that way sets our way of thinking further into the Middle Ages. So sad!

Which scene was that? The only scene with a dog was the one where the dog finds the vamp and Sookey. I haven't read the books or spoilers on the series but I thought it was obvious the dog was the bartender. I'm going to answer one of my own questions above. I don't think Michael would have to think anything about Carrie doing a sex scene like the ceiling hook one we saw last week because I doubt she would agree to do anything like that. She wouldn't take a part that would require it. It isn't like she needs the part on her resume. Real sex is not pretty and looks kind of silly. Definitely not a spectator sport. Now guys are a different matter and I wonder if ME would ever take a very well written part in a very good movie if it meant he had to bare the butt and do something like that? Would those of you who have just fallen over at the thought, please pick yourselves up. My guess is that when Sookey looses her virginity to Bill (you can see that one coming), it is going to be much more romantically handled and she won't be hanging from a meat hook. The two scenes will be the direct opposites of one other.

Just bumping this up. If you listened to the CNI interview with Carrie then you found out that she said that the cast had to sign an agreement that they would do nude scene/sex scenes. whether that means Carrie will remains to be seen. So I guess we shall see. I'm guessing her character (Arlene) either takes it as one of the women someone is murdering or turns into a vampire.
I'm also find it interesting that some of the minor characters are played by people who've been on "Lost." The black female sheriff's deputy who arrested Tara (the black friend of Sookie) is the social worker who interviewed John Locke and the woman who sprung Tara out of jail is the woman who played the Oceanic rep who accompanied the O6 to Hawaii and the press conference. Just a coincidence perhaps but it's sort of interesting. It reminds me of period in "Boston Legal" when it looked like the cast members from the Star Trek shows found their way onto the show.

That they WOULD do a nude scene or WHETHER they would do one? No matter how hungry I'd be, I would never lower my standards to do gratuitous nude scenes. They come back and bite you later on.

I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but i think that they would do the scene if the script called for it. Prolly, like "Lost," the scripts are given out that far in advance. There is indeed a lot of nudity. It is an Alan Ball production, and he doesn't shy from these things. I've noticed that the actress who plays Tara, appears with a bra on during her sex scenes with bar owner/shapeshifter, so maybe she negotiated that and who knows what Carrie might have negotiated.
I've actually haven't seen a good chunk of the eps. I just happened along it last night and saw the second to last ep of the season. I had concluded that it was sort of cheesy, but this ep had a dream sequence/murder scene that I thought was pretty good, quite lovely (dream) and not bloodless (the murder).
What actually jumps out at me in this series is the emphasis on people's attitudes and prejudices. After you get past the fangs and cheesy dramatics the commentary on prejudice about sexuality really comes through, and that's what vampire movies are all about IMO.
Postscript: Yes, she did sign an agreement. But she did say that if she had to do, she said it involve "false advertising." Ha! I thought that was great. I had heard that actors cover or embellish or otherwise alter their "nude" appearances. I would agree to it in armor.

I would agree to it in armor. Many actors either use flesh colored body suits when the nude scenes are showing their backs, others have stand-ins for the frontal nudity. It's not their body you are seeing. It is either because they refuse to do the actual nude scene or because their body is not as "beautiful."

The more I hear/read about this series, the less I want to see it. I was curious, since I'm a serious vampire aficionado, then I found out she was in it and canceled the hold I'd place with the library(I am definitely not a fan). Then a friend whose opinion I normally trust asked me to try it anyway, so I placed the hold again. I really like Anna Panquin, but not enough to put up with all the terrible acting, gratuitous sex/bad taste goings-on. That's really a shame. I adored Six Feet Under and American Beauty. I'm no prude, but sex that is there just for effect and doesn't advance the story in any way is garbage. Life's too short to waste time watching garbage. And changing the topic just a bit, please tell me if I'm wrong, but of all the things Michael has done, he's never so much as kissed another person on screen--other than the peck beside the mouth of his "wife" in L&O:CI--am I right? He's often said there are things he will never do or say as part of his work. I'm guessing debasing himself with gratuitous nudity and sex is on the list of "won't do's." Bravo Michael!

Sex is part of life, that's why is part of movies. But it's not necessary explicit escenes, close-up !!! I like sex escenes in "Dexter", between Dexter and Rita. I think that they are natural. I haven't seen "True Blood" and I can't give you my opinion.

You're so right, Silvia!
When it's not explicit, but natural, erotic and part of a romantic story--and not nasty, rutting like a bunch of wild animals--it's very nice. I dislike graphic sex just for the sake of shock value just as much as I hate the gratuitous use of graphic violence and profanity.

I finally saw True Blood and I must say I'm hooked up! Sure it has unnecessary sex aaaaall the time but other than that is fun, good performances indeed A weird subject for a weird show, I think if I had to define this show I would use what a friend said: "Watching true blood is like eating a delicious chocolate cake" lol for those who have seen it and like it might know what I mean Carrie's not there a lot, however she does get to kiss people (Rene), while Ben never kisses anybody
