Get friends, relatives, neighbors and anyone else to go to the online bookstores now and write a positive review for the book. Do it before some idiot who hasn't read it writes a critique that slams your book. On some online bookstores the oldest reviews are the ones a potential reader sees first. So you can have friends write good reviews but if a bad one beats them to it, readers will always see the bad one first. The person can criticize stuff that is not even in your book and that is what readers will see as long as your book is in print. This happened to me on Amazon. For 15 years that review has followed my book.
Reviews written by people who register and only critique the one book are suspect so have friends write several short reviews in addition to yours. Make sure they do not go overboard in their praise because then readers recognize it as a plant by friends.
After you do this stay away and don't read any of the reviews yourself no matter how much you are tempted. Just keep writing and ignore the critics. Some people feel really beat down by life. They feel ignored so when they get a chance to review something they diss it just because they have that power and it makes them feel big. I think a lot of people like this populate the online bookstores. Plus people who like one book on a topic will go to a competitors book and criticize it just because they think they are supporting their favorite authors this way. You can't please everyone.
If you want some input into your writing, join a writers group and ask for it there. But you will not find helpful reviews for youself at online bookstores.
I'm only reading book reviews now because I'm preparing the competition part of a book proposal. This is the part I hate doing.

Though talks with a producer of Preston and Steve- the Philly radio show which worships Lost and constantly talks to Michael and Terry- I got a link to the book posted on their website. At www.prestonandsteve.com/ you can see a link to my book, which takes you to Barnes and Noble. I get slightly more royalty money there, so I told the producer to put that link up instead of my link on Amazon.

I got my copy in the mail today!! ;D I'm keen to read it to help me digest all the new things I've learned about Season 4 in the past few weeks, so I'm keeping it for myself! Well done, Bobdoc. You must be proud.

FYI, Bobdoc - I'm responsible for getting three of my workmates hooked on Lost. One of them is watching Season 3, but is so confused by the backstories that she started copying and pasting episode summaries from Lostpedia so she could follow it. When she told me this, I told her to stop immediately, and brought your book to her. You should have seen the relief on her face when she saw it. It was absolutely the perfect book for her!! ;D

Be sure to tell her to purchase my book online, if you're unable to lend her your book for an extended period of time.
