I keep hearing about Walt's "power". What is this and why do I feel stupid not to pick that up whereas other people have?
What is it?
Also, what the hell is the "whispering" in the jungle?
I vaguely remember that. I think it was in the 1st season but it stopped in the 2nd and is absent entirely from the third.
Um, was there even whispering? I can't remember.

I don't whether this can help or not, but I'm gonna try... ;D Walt has some gift, but we don't know exactly what it is. - Some clues about it are in the words of Brian (Walt's 2nd father) who says that "There's something about him. Sometimes, when he's around, things happen. He's different somehow". - Furthermore, in a flashback it is shown that Walt was reading a book about Australian birds and suddenly one of those birds crashes against the window of his house and dies. - When Locke teaches Walt to throw knives ("using his mind's eye"), he learns immediately and then, as Michael stops them, Locke says that "Walt is different" and should have the chance to develop his potential. - While Walt is held by the Others, Ms.Klugh asks Michael if Walt has ever been somewhere he wasn't meant to be. That's all I can remember right now... Hope it helps! -Hugs!-

Here's a link for the whispering: lostwhispering.blogspot.com/It's very interesting stuff that you'll definitely enjoy! Also, Walt has been known to "show" up in certain places when he's really not there. Shannon saw him soaking wet in the jungle speaking backwards when he really wasn't there. I found this on the blackrock website: In s1-ep14, Special, we see that there is something different about Walt. In a flashback scene, shortly before his mother dies, Walt is looking at a book about birds. He attempts to get Brian Porter's attention, to show him a specific bird in the book, and after being ignored, a bird suddenly slams into the window and falls dead.
Later, on the island, Walt and his father, Michael, are having an argument and Michael throws a comic book that Walt is looking at into the fire. The comic book has an image of a polar bear in it, and Walt storms off into the jungle. Shortly after this, Michael and Locke must save Walt from an attacking Polar Bear in the jungle.
We first learned that these incidents might not be coincidently when Brian Porter begs Michael to take Walt, after Walt's mother dies. Brian says to Michael, "There's something about him... Sometimes when he's around things happen. He's different somehow."
There is also a scene in s1-ep22, Born to Run, where Walt, knowing nothing at all about the Hatch Locke has found, touches Locke's arm and then says, "Don't open it. Don't open that thing."
At the end of season 1, Walt is targeted and taken hostage by the Others. It is unclear why they would specifically be interested in Walt, but one can only speculate that his "abilities" may have something to do with the reason why the Others would say...Give us the Boy! Also, Check out this link that has quite a few "Walt" mysteries on it. lostmysteries.blogspot.com/search/label/Walt

Ok Walt was good, but the whispering.....how the hell are you supposed to hear that on the show. The transcripts were chilling, but I hear the clips on that site, and I don't hear a thing.
How do other people know what they are saying? I honestly can't hear voices, just music and distorted sound effects.

The funny thing here is that the only ones you can really hear are those from the jungle. The rest are found with special equipment. I have no idea how these were found....

I know! That scene when Henry is interrigated by Sayid...I had no idea there were voices! I love that episode and watched it like 10 times last week
But reading the transcipts really put a cool twist on the show! It was creepy reading them in the scene with Henry and Sayid, especially when Shannon and Sayid are in the jungle "did they see us?"
The funny thing is, the voices call Ben "henry" in that one scene...as though Henry was is real name, not Ben.
Then again, the writers never intended Michael to be on the show longer than 3 episodes.
Do u think the Others have an imperfect sort of telepathy? What I mean is, imperfect in the sense that they create these whisper phenomenons, instead of being silent?--due to experimenting?

also in Three Minutes, Mrs. Klugh told Michael that Walt is "special"

And the Dharma recruiter who wanted to hire Juliet called her "Special" as well.
The assumption being that she caused her evil husband to get hit by the bus.

The assumption being that she caused her evil husband to get hit by the bus. well, he was not a Dharma recruiter. his name was Richard Alpert and he was from Mittelos Bioscience. if he was from the Dharma Initiative, that would mean the Ethan is a part of the Dharma Initiative! we don't know for sure, but i doubt that the Others are part of the Dharma Initiative. and i don't think that Ed getting hit by a bus was caused by Juliet. i believe that Richard has a lot of power and arranged to get rid of Ed so that Juliet can come and work for them.

That would be a freak-ass twist, that Juliet did it, but i doubt it.

Wow! That link about the whispering is fantastic! I didn't thik there was so much stuff behind those scenes.. Thanks! The assumption being that she caused her evil husband to get hit by the bus. When I first saw the episode, I thought she caused her ex-husband death, too.. She has to be "special" in some way, hasn't she? That's just how I felt about it, anyway!

If she was special though, she would have used her powers by now. She was on the island for 3 years, I think an Other would let it slip in that time period that she is "special"...and she would have let it be known some how to Jack or the audience in general.

Yeah, could be! But maybe the producers don't know what ability it is yet.. or maybe there are more powerful people on the Island (e.g. Ben ;D) who can control her.. dunno.. just silly theories
