Hey all, We've added a new feature to the board. It's called multiple post automerge. Whenever you reply to a thread more than once in a row, the replies will be merged together into one post. It doesn't affect your post count, and the thread will still show up as having new posts in it and be bumped to the top of the board when multiple replies have been merged. As always, if you experience any problems with the board or features not working properly, please let me or another admin know. A related feature that we added a while back was multiple quotes. If you haven't read about that, you can see the tutorial for using it here: michaelemerson.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=siteinfo&action=display&thread=2697

For instance, a person replies to the word association, then goes on to answer a photo picspam, and finally reply to the movie game. Now we have all the replies in one post and there's no continuity with the games and the threads. I get confused. Maybe I'm too old. LOL

And then say, there's nothing like giving it a test run to see how.

I will then see what happens. And outside the fact you need to wait 15 seconds, which usually is not a problem for me, after I go back and fix spelling and grammar errors. It looks great.
How does it work if you're quoting someone?

If I got this right, this feature kicks in only if the last post you are replying to in a given thread was your own. If you posted two posts in a row in the thread, then they combine, like they did for me in the "Cutest Comics" thread in the links section. So it shouldn't affect any of the games, since people aren't supposed to put in two consecutive posts in a row there.

Ah so the key is consecutive. If true, that would be kind of nice.

hoooray!! This is something that I really love about the Fuselage. I will give it a go later on today as well. ;D ;D ;D
There shouldn't be a problem with nonsensical posts, Edith. As Bobdoc correctly put it, this feature only applies to consecutive replies within the same thread.

Look at this post, there's your WORD ASSOCIATION post: jury.

When I go to 54 recent entries, the multiple posts are combined into one post, regardless of what thread they belong to. As I go through the recent entries more often than not, I find this feature very annoying. However, I believe the Democratic principles, so if the majority likes the feature, I will stay quiet.

perhaps we should do a poll in this thread to see if majority rules yea or nay?

I don't know what to think about it. I like that it combines posts, but I thought was a little confusing, that the replies aren't in order, anymore. Maybe I'll get used to it after a while.

Wow. I just checked that out. I wasn't aware that was part of the feature...I was under the impression it would only apply to consecutive posts in a single thread. It's actually pretty ridiculous what it does to the 54 most recent posts, and IMO shouldn't be part of a code like this. I've never seen it done that way before.
In light of that, I'm in favor of removing the code that I just added. ;D
I know a few of us were waiting a long time for a code like this, but...maybe someone will come out with a better version of it in the future, or ProBoards will make an improved version a standard part of the boards.
For those that are still in favor of the code and haven't tried looking at the 54 most recent posts...please take a look at that and decide if you really want to keep it. It's going to be a big inconvenience for those who use the most recent posts feature.
