Sorry if this is a repeat of a previous thread. I did a search and came up empty.
I finally saw this incredible, heartbreaking film tonight. It's such an important film, and important topic. Nestor Carbonel and Jeremy Davis were in it, along with Michael. Granted, Michael's part was very small, but it was so very powerful.
To put it bluntly, as a fundamentalist Protestant preacher, he was terrifying. I mean he literally sent a chill down my spine and gave me goose flesh. Probably because I grew up in a fundamentalist faith filled with all that hate and condemnation, hellfire and damnation.
He nailed that self-righteous, above it all, holier-than-though preacher persona. It was like watching a stranger. This few moments on camera--particularly when he talks about how he hopes that poor Matthew Shepard realized the error of his ways while he was being beaten and left for dead--makes Ben Linus look like Bambi and Mother Theresa combined! It's THAT powerful.
Kudos to Michael for taking it there.
I was actually excited at first, seeing him in the pulpit. As a Methodist woman I can honestly say there are few things sexier than a man who loves the Lord and goes with you to Bible study and church because he actually wants to. LOL But that scene of the sidewalk interview killed that pulpit scene infatuation with a quickness. Haters are NOT sexy!
Anyone else seen this? Thoughts?

oh, my - I just watched it on youtube. Holy Crap - I think that dude was WAY more evil than Ben Linus. Down right disturbing..............But, looking at the breadth of his talent to come across and portray people the way he does, jsut gives me more pleasure in watching him work. He really is gifted. NOT talented, he's gifted!

Silvia1: I rented the dvd through Netflix. You can see Michael's scenes from the film thanks to Edith's clip here on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbb_-0A0Dsssnivellusfriend: That's the part that scared/chillled the heck out of me. I grew up surrounded by that sort of mindset. . .and worse, open hatred like those "God hates fags" protesters. It's terrifying to see that much lack of compassion/hatred in others. Michael nailed it with just his facial expression and tone of voice. My respect for his skills at his craft is constantly growing.

I was only going to watch Michael's scenes, but now I've watched almost the whole movie. It was very interesting, but repulsive at moments...more disturbing than any gore flick could be, how there are actually people with with those beliefs in the world...

Normally i wouldn't watch this kind of movies, i like action movies with no topic just explosions and guns and kung fu or karate... but since i fell for Michael i've been watching "new" kinds of movies and this one was more appalling cause RichardA and DFaraday were in there too... but man! The topic is so deep and it is so sad and at the same time i felt so angy. How can someone that preaches about God and His love and all, can't love this boy who had a different lifestyle???
Touchy subjet, IMO, but i'm just saying if you say you love God, then you should love you neighbour too, that's what Jesus said, didn't he???
Anyway, Michael was great, as usual and as Ali said: he truly is gifted!

You're right, Nuala. Love is the law. It's just a crushing fact that people pick and choose the things they'll obey and those they'll take out of context to use as a club to punish and judge others.
I've been telling everyone about this film. Like "Jumping Off Bridges," it's one of those tough to watch, but ultimately important and engaging stories.
