I'm not sure where to put this thread, so I put it here. Has anyone noticed how Michael pronounces words like: wheel, wheep or while? I mean he changes letters in these words like: hweel, hweep, hwile! This is cute ;D but strange to me I want to know HWY he does this? Is it some kind of dialect or what? If you know Family Guy series there is a caracter named Stewie there and he does exactly the same thing - he says coolhweep. But I thought he does this only to annoy Brian And I never thought anybody else does this in real life

BTW do you know anyone else who has this charming manner of speaking? Only Seth MacFarlane, as far as I know. This is the only video I could find of him doing it in person ... the quality kinda sucks, but he does the "cool hwip"

Smokey (the member, not the big mass of smoke) wait a minute, just how do you know that they're not one and the same? I'm sure Smokey needs something to do in his downtime, when he's not judging or killing people. Why not poke around the fan boards?

I read that it's a vocal technique that actors use. In one Shakespeare technique book, an author said that actors should pronounce a slight "H" in front of the words that begin with vowels, to help the audience hear them pronounce the sounds of the word clearly, that the "H" sound helps actors speak properly from their diaphragm and helps prevent damage to their vocal cords. I didn't really notice that Michael does this; I might've heard it slightly, but it didn't really bother me. This website explains it a bit. blogs.voices.com/askthevoicecat/2008/01/pronunciation_advice.html

Actually, it's something those of us who took speech and debate classes had learn back in the day. I don't know what they do now, but back then you were judged on your pronunciation as well as your clarity, tone, projection, etc. So there was a different way to pronounce "wait" versus "what", and we were made to understand that, thank you very much. The idea was that you incorporate the "h" with the "w". This isn't as difficult as pronouncing the double "L" in Welsh, but it's heading in that direction.
I've tried to block this all from my mind, because back then in the terror of competing in the oratory division, not only did I have to memorize the thing word for word, inject passion and conviction I had to get those "Ws" and "WHs" right. I have a memory of a judge noting that in his remarks on my performance. Whew. *wipes memory sweat from brow*
