Don't forget the religious imagery in '316.' That episode had me convinced that John Locke would become a Christ figure, and we see evidence of Jack (doubting Thomas, the apostle) beginning to believe in John for the first time.
I do agree with Edith that we probably shouldn't read toomuch into this photo, though. I think it is just a creative way to bring the cast together in a manner that reflects the finality of the upcoming season.

Ah, yes, I forgot about "316." Another episode wherein a bone was thrown at us. LOL.

Those above examples may have just been bones, as the photo may be. But religious parallels are also easy to find or make in the whole Locke/Ben/Jacob/MIB storyline, whether that was Damon's intention or not. In the "What about me?!" speech, Ben pretty much spoke for everyone who feels ignored/betrayed by their God/father, and we still don't know if Jacob/MIB are supposed to parallel Gods/Devils or something else. Religious imagery and parallels may be small in the big picture of Lost, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more substantial ones in the end game. BTW, Doc Arzt's site shows versions of the photo that aren't in a magazine - turns out US Weekly had the original copy. From www.docarzt.com/lost/lost-news/lost-group-pic-last-supper-two-versions/

I tend agree with Edith that this photo is more of a lark, trying to be a little deeper than the show or its writers have been. Not that they are intellectual slouches, but they know a good sensationalist shot when they see it.
I still hold to my own theory/speculation that this show is a television story stemming off the age-old theme of man struggles with and against his gods. It's classic Greek tales and fundamental (not fundamentalist) religious parables adapted for network TV. I think we'll see that Jacob and his nemesis are supra-humans (demigods they would be called in another era) who have been playing a game and using people to prove their arguments. I sort of suspect they are also using the island's properties as well in that game. I don't think either of them come across as particularly compassionate, or obviously evil. Their roles are very similar the roles people play over creatures they think of as less than themselves. What remains to be seen is if the people (Oceanic 6, the DI and the Others) will rise of up against these guys and take control of their own destiny.
It was in another Lost forum I think where I posted my growing suspicion that most of the Others are no more than followers (victims) of a cult. They aren't special. They are merely being controlled by being kept a standard of level that keeps them at a subsistence level and leaves them dependent and vulnerable without the protection of some leader who they are told is enlightened or equipped to take care of them.

One of my friends insists that the final battle is not going to be about good vs. evil, but about chaos vs. order, represented by Jacob and Jacob's nemesis, which I think also has classical origins.

Tv & Satelite week published that picture and mentioned that Sayid was in Judas' position and that why was he locking eyes with Ben. On closer inspection Sayid is looking at Locke not Ben as are everyone else. Also says that time could be running out for Sayid and Hurley as they both have skulls at their feet! Kate apparantly teams up with Claire, Sawyer goes back to his old ways following Juliet's death! and conflict between Richard and Locke....
