It doesn't look like a Michael episode here, but for fans of Desmond, this is the next best thing for them. Will this week be their "Ab Aeterno" - or will massive expectations be let down this time? Given the long wait for Desmond, and the high bar that Desmond episodes set, it would spread real panic in the fandom if this didn't deliver. “Happily Ever After” Written by Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof Directed by Jack Bender
Desmond wakes up to discover he's back on the island.

I was getting a bit confused throughout the episode but Desmond's final line made everything click. "I just need to show them something." I think we just found out how the flash sideways are going to begin to meld with the island. Amazing!!

This ep turned out to be a stunner. I didn't know what to think before so maybe that helped to not get my expectations up, but it delivered in spades. Plus, we get Desmond!

Really enjoyed this episode. But the flash-sideways melding with Island events...and Desmond, Charlie and Faraday realizing it... made me sad. I mean, I know it had to happen, and I thought I was looking forward to it. But now that it has happened, it really hit home that the end is near. It's not a complaint about the epi at all. Just me being sentimental.

I think I'm still in shock - that epi was fantastic to me. No real answers, but a giant step forward as to how it's coming together.
all the peeps and straight on story of Des - bravo writers, bravo I don't know if anything I wrote is spoilery, but I'll put tags anyway.........

If sideways Des is just going to show the 815 passengers the other side, that would rule out him going to Ben, since he wasn't on the plane. That could also rule out Ben playing a part in the sideways world climax - unless he figures out how much worse he has it on the other side. When Desmond said Penny was just an idea, who else was waiting for Daniel to say she was his constant? When Daniel said that he thought he had stopped something catastrophic by setting off the bomb, I wondered if there was something more to that. We still don't know why and how he formed his plan at Ann Arbor and changed his way of thinking so drastically. What if setting off the bomb was the one thing that stopped the island from sinking in the real world - and therefore stopped the Man in Black from leaving earlier? Perhaps the real Daniel was made aware of this somehow, and that's why he did what he did. That would make the sideways world one where The Incident sunk the island, and one where the monster is free already - so I wonder if we'll see the MIB around in sideways time at the end.

This episode also brought a question to my mind that I'm not sure has ever been or ever will be answered but do you think might be significant Has it ever been revealed who Penny's mother is? Last night Daniel said she was his half sister and we know that her father is Charles and Dan's mother is Eloise, and we also know that Charles was banished by Ben from the island for supposedly having a child with an 'outsider', do you think the secret of her mother's identity is going to be a big deal if it is ever revealed?

I found this episode very intense! and ... If sideways Des is just going to show the 815 passengers the other side, that would rule out him going to Ben, since he wasn't on the plane. That could also rule out Ben playing a part in the sideways world climax - unless he figures out how much worse he has it on the other side. . Bobdoc, I had exactly the same idea about Ben whom was not in the plane ... I thought that he may have a strong role on the island (maybe with the smoke monster) and just go on with his Dr linus' life in the other reality...
And flummery, I agree with you, in France we say that "it smells the end"...I don't know if you have the same expression here, but yes, for the first time in season six, I feel it coming soon, as the two realities are connecting now. But I'm not very sad, I'm excited to get the big answers!

Loved the Sci-Fi vibe of this episode! And Dominic Monaghan was very good at playing ALT Charlie. The ALT makes very much sense to me since Dr. Linus, because I think it's the epilogue, and it's going to replace the OR, but with all the characters having 'memories of it. ^^^ And Ben wasn't that much worse in the OR!

considering the amount of paths being crossed - I wouldn't be surprised to see Dr. Linus cross with Desmond somehow and all sorts of madness will ensue if they shake hands or something.
Because what about Charlotte/Juliet/Miles/Lapidus - it's all crashing together me thinks
