[spoilers] I liked this episode, it's pure "lost old school", and I truly think the one and only love story on this show that deserves to be watched is Desmond's (forget faraday + charlotte, skate or jack-kate, or any other, this one feels true). i think Widmore turned out to be a good guy, but what I don't understand is how he found out about the island being in danger (Jacob dead), unless of course Jacob appeared to Widmore, which would definitely mean he's important (way more important than Ben). Finally I can see a what the paralel world might mean, like Faraday said that maybe that's not the life they were meant to live. This is officially my 3rd favorite episode

I still want to hold off on calling Widmore a good guy, though he's probably telling the truth about why he wants to kill the monster. I still think he's got an angle for himself- and in fact, I think he's planning to kill all the candidates along with the monster, so that with Jacob, MIB and the candidates gone, he will be the island ruler again. But since the candidates must not die while the monster's out there, he's focusing on that end of the plan first.

I don't have time at the moment to write my reactions or catch up on other people's thoughts, but I do have to say that I loved, loved, LOVED this epi!!! I gave it a nine. And I didn't realize until this epi just how much I missed Daniel Faraday!!!!!!!! I also cried when I thought we were watching Charlie drown a second time. That was really bloody cruel.

I noticed two things, which may or may not be as important as I'm thinking they are... you know that so far, all the sideways Losties have catch their reflections, whether in a mirror or on a glass, well, in this episode, we see Desmond's do this twice! The first time he's looking to an Oceanic ad or something and we can see his reflection with a white backround, then when he's going to the police station, we see his reflection again, but this time it has a black background... I think that was interesting...
And another thing, when he goes to tell Mrs. Widmore that he fail in his mission, she's wearing a brooch shaped as a star very similar to the one branded into Juliet in S3... does that mean something?!?!?
Also, aren't like all the alt-Losties ending up in a hospital?? We have seen Claire and Kate there, and Sayid, now Desmond and Co. and I'm sure Sun and Jin are gonna end up there too, cause Sun is injured. And of course Dr. Jears is working in a hospital, I'm just not sure about Locke can't remember...

My speculation: I think they're ending up in a hospital to show that the alt-world is a result of what happened or didn't happen on the island. Because we see Jack so often, it's as if it's telling us that alt world is a construct peopled by those who have a history with the lsland. People can have different last names, different jobs, but they are in L.A. X and interacting in with each other, just as they have on the island. Also, in the alt, people seem to have this sort of déjù vu. You can almost see thought bubbles, "Haven't I been here? Shouldn't I know these people?" Which was really dialed up in HEA. We seem to be getting instances in which Island world is coming through, if only slightly, into L.A. X.

Locke would likely be there to get consoled by "Dr. Jears" about his spine - he did decide not to go at the end of The Substitute, but somehow that'll probably change soon.

I retracted my vote and gave it a ten instead. It is fast becoming my favorite epi, alongside "Through the Looking Glass" and "Lighthouse."

Did anyone else notice that Daniel Faraday/Widmore was playing the same piece of music on the piano as Jack's son.

Well, Daniel played that exact same piece of music twice in "The Variable" flashbacks, then David played it in Lighthouse, and then Daniel brought it full circle.

I gave this episode a 10, because it stunned me. It was so great and had everything, I love about Lost (with the exeption of Ben of course ;D)
