The new Batman film will officially be out in summer 2012, and the G4 website touts a popular Internet suggestion for the film - to have Michael as the Riddler. They already got Nestor to play the Mayor in the Dark Knight, so they must already have some familarity with Lost. The heavily-anticipated follow-up to The Dark Knight just got a lot more real, as Warner Bros. has officially given the still-unnamed film a release date. Fans rabidly awaiting the third film in the current Batman franchise now have an important date to mark on their calendars: July 20, 2012. As The Hollywood Reporter comments on its status:
"The studio has barely begun the process of developing the movie; Christopher Nolan is in postproduction on “Inception,” but is hammering out a story with David Goyer."
Coming just a few days after the joint press release by Warner and IMAX, which identified Batman 3 as being released sometime within the next three years, they clearly wanted to get a jump on the subsequent rumors by finding a place for the film. However, by setting a stake in the 2012 summer movie season, Warner has made a bold move considering that it will be among major "fanboy" film peers like May 4's The Avengers (which may end up being the biggest comic film ever conceived,) Star Trek 2 on June 29th, and the closest threat of all, the July 3rd launch of the Spider-Man reboot film! You certainly can't accuse Warner of taking the safe route this time.
With that said, let's talk villains! Who do you think should be the villain(s) in the next Batman film and who should portray them?
My Humble Pick: The Riddler as portrayed by Michael Emerson from Lost.
Runner-Up: Bane played physically by WWE wrestler Batista with an Antonio Banderas voice-over.
