So, I'm pretty excited to see these new teaser photos! The one of Finch off-center looking left is an especially good one, interesting because of the lighting as well as the angle.
>I like how Michael Emerson is able to get some of his old buddies a part in his shows.
I have two questions: how common is it in general for actors to have some sway in guest casting, and do we know for sure that Michael initiated the idea to bring Ken in? I was thinking that it could also have come from someone in the casting department of both LOST and POI, such as April Webster - but if it was Michael's doing, that's pretty awesome!
Also: Could someone please explain, since I haven't seen all of season one yet, what Finch's two pairs of glasses are for. He doesn't seem to use one pair exclusively for reading, does he? I think if it were for reasons of style, there would be more than two. So I'm wondering if one pair either connects him to the machine or gives him other powers somehow.

Great questions! I hope someone else will join in and answer. I'm not sure how common it is for cast members to have sway in bringing other actors onto a show, or if Michael really influences the decisions on POI, but I do know that the writers and assorted higher-ups on several shows are also Lost fans and that often leads to Lost-related easter eggs or guest actors. On POI, The Numbers from Lost have shown up, and on Once Upon a Time, there have not only been Lost alumni but all of these references: (Careful- starting at #6 of the pilot episode, you might find Lost spoilers) seriable.com/once-upon-a-time-1-01-pilot-lost-easter-eggs/You know, I don't recall there being an explanation for Finch's glasses...at least not a verbal one. Somehow my brain didn't really process that there were two different pairs....could it be that one pair has an imbedded camera or other spy-related equipment? Some discussions I found on Google call the thicker pair he wears with Reese his Clark Kent superhero glasses, but there's nothing about what they might do specifically.

> On POI, The Numbers from Lost have shown up, and on Once Upon a Time, there have not only been Lost alumni but all of these references: This is fascinating, thanks for the link! I am used to looking for easter eggs in DVD menus, but it never occurred to me to look for them in the actual shows. I have a feeling POI will be one of those shows with lots easter eggs, and awesome special features when they come out with the DVD box set (which I hope will be *years* from now after the show's had a nice long run). >Some discussions I found on Google call the thicker pair he wears with Reese his Clark Kent superhero glasses, Does he wear the wire rims when he is alone and the thicker pair with Reese? I'll have to go back and take another look because I don't remember. I love the idea that there is hidden technology in the glasses. Since Michael said in one of the Comic Con interviews that he sometimes likes to not know all the details of his character's back story, I wonder even if he knows. 'Clark Kent superhero glasses' - this makes me smile. I will always associate Finch with Superman now! I decided to go trawling for POI blogs and discussions. Are there any in particular that you'd recommend?

First of all, fringillidae, I'd like to welcome you to our board. I love your questions. I have never really wondered about the glasses. I just assumed that Michael had two pairs and decided one day to wear one over the other. But I think my theory is a very naive one. I am the person who wrote about Michael and Ken acting in POI. As far as Michael's influence in having his buddies on his show, I can't really tell you that he does have such influence. But I remember that Michael has mentioned that he does mention Carrie at staff parties, and I am assuming that he mentions other people as well. Ken and Michael go back a few years. They were both unknowns when they acted in Saw and were often seen together while in Hawaii at the local jazz clubs. Moreover, I am sure that just a mere mention of other LOST actors that Michael felt comfortable in acting with is enough to get the producers have them on their shows. A lot of LOST fans watch POI, and a lot of those fans are Michael Emerson's fans. I think it behooves the producers to have LOST actors on. As far as other blogs about Person of Interest, Live Journal has a blog dedicated to Person of Interest: personofint-tv.livejournal.com

Hi Edith, Thank you for the reply and info, and for posting those teaser pics originally. On that POI blog you linked to, I read that the Season 1 DVD is available for pre-order on Amazon - hooray! I knew that a Michael Emerson fan forum would be a lovely, friendly community. I can't wait until POI season 2 starts so discussion will pick up and I'll get to meet more of this group. Also, off topic, *thank you* for your work rescuing basset hounds! My first childhood pet was a basset; one of my earliest memories was the excitement I felt going when I first saw him on my third birthday. Harvey was my best pal all through childhood. >They were both unknowns when they acted in Saw and were often seen together while in Hawaii at the local jazz clubs. This thrills me because I'm an aspiring jazz musician. It also makes me imagine a scenario where the musicians notice Ken and Michael in the audience and cleverly insert the ending theme from 'LOST' into their solos. It's a lovely thought; I'd do it if the opportunity arose. >A lot of LOST fans watch POI, and a lot of those fans are Michael Emerson's fans. I think it behooves the producers to have LOST actors on. I agree, and I'm curious who else from LOST you all would like to see on POI. I'm still sailing through season 1, but I already have my favorites of course. Maybe there is already a thread for this; if not, I think I'll go start one.

RE: the glasses. The showrunners have stated on a commentary on the pilot that the one pair of glasses (roundish hornrims) were lost and that is why he stopped wearing them. I think he's settled in the squarish frames — at least until he loses those. Ha!
As for Lost alums (regulars and guest roles), these are the ones I know of: • Bret Cullen (Goodwin Stanhope), recurring role as Nathan Ingram • Alan Dale (Charles Widmore), POI, former Stasi agent Ulrich Kohl. • Ken Leung (Miles Straume), as mentioned above, will be in Season 2. • Carrie Preston (Emily Linus), as Finch's fiancée Grace.
Can't think of any others. I'm guessing a lot of Lost stars might make their way to POI simply because of the J.J. Abrams connection.
Welcome, fringillidae. I am getting very excited about season 2. Can't wait to see if some of my theories will pan out.

Thank you for the welcome, Mythicfeline! I feel the same way; I love to speculate about POI. I think it's really funny that most of my friends watch it for the action scenes. To each her own, I guess. At least one of my theories was wrong: all the information revealed in yesterday, I guessed only some of it but what I did guess, I was sure it would take at least 4 or 5 episodes to get there! The fact that they already told us so much in the first episode must mean that there are many more plot twists still to come! Re: the glasses, yes, I posted the above having seen only a few re-runs which also were not entirely in chronological order due to changes in scheduling during the Olympics. Still, the directors cut explains why the costuming department changed Finch's glasses, but not Finch's own motivation for changing his glasses within the show. But you're probably right that looking for meaning in the glasses will turn out to be a fool's errand. Ah well.
