Hi! For all who haven't seen this episode (myself included), according to my TiVo, Sunshine Days is going to be on the SciFi Channel on June 30, 2009 at 2AM. At least in my area (I'm in WA state). I'm not sure how that relates to everywhere else's TV schedule. BTW, this is my first post; nice to meet everyone. I LOVE Michael Emerson.

Do you hear me, God? It's me, Dasha from Russia. I beg you on my bended knees: bring Michael Emerson all the cinema awards on Planet Earth for he is an unbelievably gifted actor.
That was exactly what I had in mind after watching Sunshine Days tonight. I was sitting at my local restaurant with a notebook and quietly having my dinner... almost. Because eating while Michael is playing seems to be some sort of blasphemy. And he was yet again extraordinary good.
What enraptures me most about this guy is his ability not simply to portray such different characters, but to embody them. He knows how to change his voice timbre, vocal modulations, glancing style, but these are the first level skills. Much more above it all is his capacity to change facial expressions and body language in every possible way!
Attentive watcher would notice that Michael has diverse sets of mimicry for different characters. He uses some special grimaces for Marty Manning - which he doesn't use for Ben, for example. And here we have not only a special way of speaking and looking (Oliver doesn't have too much to talk about, really), but a whole new body language! Just take a close look on Oliver: he's not about words, he's all about body, gestures, gait... Michael incarnated in the body of a shy, lonely, closed and not-loved-enough person so brilliantly, I cried near the end and - that was the only human reaction to what was happening on the screen.
Dear God. Meryl Streep has enough of Oscars already. Make Michael Emerson get some, please.

Dinze, I *love* your posts!!! Dear tigerlily, I am so flattered to hear this! [I couldn't agree more!!!!! Thank you sooo much for your appreciation, lostali75! Now I am on my way to SAW (4am is the best time for this kind of movies). And I haven't watched The Practice yet. You'd better not imagine what I am going to write after such masterpieces! BTW, is there a Marty Manning thread? I've got few ideas to share...

DinzeI completely understand you admiration about Michael's acting. I for a long time discussed with mine online friends the fact that Michael always varies physically and emotionally when he plays any new character.

Michael always varies physically and emotionally when he plays any new character I forgot to mention that not only body language, but also his way of speaking was beyond belief. Not even speaking, but delivering his lines. As we all know Michael has a very clear diction, he articulates every word so clearly you can use his monologues instead of Headway to learn English. But not this time, not in Sunshine days. Because Oliver Martin is not a well-spoken mature person with large vocabulary and worthy self-esteem. Despite his age he's a neglected, barely educated, continually nervous person who tends to contact only pizza deliverymen... How on earth should he know to speak? Michael delivers this whole backstory by speaking in a most unarticulated and confusing manner. For the first time within my recollection he doesn't pronounce words, he just mumbles unfinished phrases like he's not used to talk to anybody! Add this to his (I mean, Oliver's) stiff movements and constrained facial expressions... the image is perfectly complete. As if anybody expected less from Michael!
