Sayid lifted up Zoe.
"Where shall we take her?" Sayid asked, wondering how she got in such a dreadful state.
"She can come to mine." Mel called to Sayid, who carried Zoe to her house, Sayid as well as the rest of them, unaware of the happenings between Ben, Zoe, Ethan and Mel. Sayid laid her on the sofa.
"We should get her a glass of water - to wake her up." Sayid said. Mel fecthed a glass and handed it to Sayid. Sayid opened her mouth and forced the water down her throat before splashing some of it on her face.
Zoe spluttered, and woke up instantly, sitting bolt upright, instinctive of danger, making Sayid jump.
"Boat!" Zoe repeated before anyone could start. "I know I should't have come back, but I had to let you know! There's a boat coming, and I think it's rescue for the oceanic survivors!" Then she noticed Mel in the room, and stood up backing quickly against the wall.
"Mel." She gasped, frightened, as the last time they had met they hadn't ended up on good terms, and she had seen what Mel had done to Ethan, without hesitation.

Jack was startled by Zoe's scream. Her turned towards the crowd gathering in the middle of the village, but he had to make sure Emma was all right first. "Ben!" he yelled. "Open up!"
Frustrated, Jack remembered the open window that Emma had climbed through. He popped through the window and found Ben still sitting on the couch, his head in his hands. "Where is she, Ben? Where's Emma?"
"Not now, Jack." Ben replied. Jack pretended he hadn't heard Ben. "WHERE IS SHE, BEN?" he yelled. Ben looked up, deeply unhappy. "She got too nosy, Jack. I kicked her out of the house. I have no idea where she went."
Jack didn't believe him. He heard low moans coming from the basement. He pretended to walk towards the front door to leave, but at the last moment he veered towards the basement door and kicked it open. Emma was a the bottom of the stairs, barely conscious, a silver key dangling from a chain in her tightly closed hand.
Jack ran downstairs, threw her over his shoulder, and darted out Ben's front door. The pain of Ben's head trauma began to overpower him, and he was unable to reach Jack in time. He watched as Jack ran towards the jungle with Emma slung over his back. Ben felt grateful that he wouldn't have to deal with her anymore at the moment, and his metal briefcase remained safe in his home. He was left alone with his thoughts, and they returned to Sophie.

"Where did you see this boat?" Sayid asked eyeing Zoe's reaction to Mel.
"At your old camp on the beach." She told him without taking her eyes away from Mel.
"Damn." Mel said more to herself than to anyone else.
"You think this is a bad thing?" came from Sayid.
"The last time someone new came to this island they tried to kill us and and nearly suceeded. So yes, I think this is a bad thing. Sayid, I need you to stay with Zoe."
"Where are you going?" Sayid asked.
Mel took a deep breath, she was afriad to even say the words, "I'm going to tell Ben."

"What's going on between you two?" Sayid asked suspiciously when Mel left. "Why are you so afraid of her?" Zoe didn't say anything for a moment. She walked across the room, towards the mantle peice with her back to Sayid, looking in the mirror, noticing now how terrible she looked. Sayid stepped closer to her.
"Zoe?" He started.
"I'm sorry Sayid." Zoe whispered, and she whipped round to face him, picking up one of the fire place equipment by the fire and smaked it into Sayid's stomach, winding him, giving her enough time to drop it and run to the back door. She turned to face Sayid as he started to stagger to get back up.
"I'm sorry." Zoe repeated. "But if I stay, I'm going to loose me life." She then turned and fled through the jungle.

Jack carried Emma for half a mile into the jungle before he felt it was safe enough to put her down. He lowered her gently onto the grass. She was conscious, but couldn't move her body. Her voice was scratchy, and it was a struggle to speak. "Thank you, Jack."
"Just lie down, Emma. Don't try to move. The effects will wear off shortly."
Her entire body ached, and felt as heavy as lead. She motioned for Jack to move closer. He knelt beside her, his face close to hers. "I'm sorry I left you alone, Emma."
Emma didn't even care anymore. She had gotten half of what she wanted; the key to Ben's briefcase was still clutched tightly in her hand. She had had only a split second to react before the tranquilizer kicked in, and in his distracted, painful state Ben hadn't noticed her grab it from his neck, thankfully.
"Jack, your people need you. I won't keep you from them. But there are two things I need from you."
"I'm listening, Emma." he responded.
"I need the silver briefcase from Ben's house. I dropped it near the open window I climbed in. It might still be there, if Ben hasn't moved it. I need that briefcase."
Jack nodded. There was enough drama happening all around him to ensure a stolen moment or two to accomplish this. "I can do that."
Emma squeezed his hand, grateful for his friendship. "I also need someone to guide me, someone who knows the island better than I do. Someone I can trust."
Jack immediately thought of John Locke. Nobody knew the island better, but he couldn't always be found when you needed him. Sayid and Emma had bonded, he knew, and Sayid was an excellent guide. Either one would be an ideal candidate.
"I will do my best, Emma. But I can't leave you here alone."
"Jack, I'll be fine. I've spent plenty of time on my own in this place."
Jack shook his head. "We'll wait until the tranquilizer wears off."
Emma squeezed his hand again. "Thank you, Jack." Jack lifted her head and placed it in his lap so she could rest comfortably, and they waited together quietly.

Mel knocked loudly on Ben's front door. She was startled when he ripped it open.
"You." he growled when he saw her. His arm shot out and his hand wrapped around her throat. He pulled her inside the house and threw her against the wall.
"I should kill you." Ben said, his face inches away from her.
Mel grabbed at Ben's hands but she couldn't remove them from her neck.
"Ben, please." she choked out.
"No, I don't want to hear anything you have to say." he said darkly.
"Boat." Mel forced.
Ben froze. He released some of the pressure on her throat. "What?"
"There is a boat." Mel wheezed. "At the beach camp."
Ben removed his hand and Mel crashed to the floor as she regained her breath. "We need to leave, now." she told him.
"We?" he said looking at her like she was crazy. "You are responsible for killing the two most important people in my life. Why would I go anywhere with you?"
Mel stood and braced herself against the chair in front of her, "This boat may be a potential rescue for these people. They'll want to find out if it is. I'm the only person you can trust to make sure that doesn't happen. That the island is protected."
Ben glared at her but he knew she was right. Mel had always done what he had asked of her.
"You're going to need to forget about what you think I've done for a while and trust me." Mel said as she turned for the door. She slowed slightly to make sure Ben was folowing her. He was, reluctantly.

Ben followed Mel outside. He noticed Richard and John talking. Richard handing over stuff to john. He looked at them suspicously as he watched john head off in the jungle. He started to head off to Richard.
"Ben! This way." said mel turning to Ben. "C'mon you need to stop these people. You can deal with that later." she said.

Sophie explored her new home. It was basically like the flame only smaller. It had a huge storage space. So sophie assumed it was just a place they stocked things when dharma was around. "Will have to give this place a good clean up Mols" said Sophie as she looked around

Mel and Ben knew they didn't have much time so they ran. They barely slowed their frantic pace through the jungle until they reached the beach camp. They hid behind one of the tents as they watched a group of people unloading a raft. On first glance Mel counted about five of them.
Ben turned to Mel, "Get out your gun."
"What? You just want to rush them? Where is one of your brilliant plans?"
Ben shrugged, "I don't need one. I figure I don't have much to live for anyway."
Mel wanted to smack him, "I realize you're grieving but please don't forget that Bella is still your daughter. I've already taken away her only other potential father figure. You're all she has."
"Except for her mother, the murderer" Ben sneered.
"Will you just shut up and move?" Mel said trying to pretend his words hadn't hurt her.
They exited the trees and ran quickly to where the small raft had been pulled onto the sand. They could see the large boat anchored in the distance.
"Put your hands up!" Mel yelled so they could all hear her.
Five pairs of surprised eyes turned towards her and Ben. They both raised their guns to them.
"Put yours hands up, now!" Mel ordered.
Slowly, while casting worried looks to each other, the small crew raised their hands into the air.

Lauren stepped out onto the wind-swept deck. A tear rolled down her cheek and she quickly brushed it away. She clutched the railing and stared out to sea, desperately scanning her surroundings, looking for a glimmer of hope, but nothing. She sighed and slowly returned to her bed, exhausted, as the slow swaying of the boat rocked her to sleep.
“What the-“ The ship jumped under Lauren's feet, and she found herself on the ground. A cold wave rose from the ground and struck her, it reverberated and she skidded across to the back of her room. The wave expanded across the whole deck. She knew she had to hurry to make it through to the other side of the boat. She wouldn’t have long. Lauren crawled sideways to avoid making further contact with the waves that were violently rocking the boat. She coughed and shuddered at the salty taste of the sea water she had swallowed.
Lieutenant Frank Mason sat in the command centre, grinning. He pushed a button over and over again on the computer he sat in front of. He looked concerned as Lauren dragged herself into the room, dripping wet.
“What’s happening?!” she screamed
Frank only smiled and waved towards the window.
“We’re here.”
Lauren pulled herself up against the deck, and gripped the edge, to stop herself falling back down again. She leaned across and glanced through the window. Sure enough, the island was there, it was much larger than she had imagined, the transition from beach to jungle seemed almost like an illusion. She stumbled back as the ship rocked with the momentum. Things were flying across the room from the roughness of the sea. She threw herself behind Frank. The instruments were going crazy, spinning round in circles.
“Frank! We can’t go to the island. If we take her any further we will die!” she screamed above the sounds of the waves slapping against the boat.
He looked thoughtful, as he stared down at the instruments in confusion.
“You’re right”
He ran out on to the deck and yelled for the boat to be anchored. Lauren held onto the desk and watched as everyone frantically skidded across the deck, trying to get the heavy anchor out and drag it to the side. The waves were rocking the ship so violently that a few nearly fell overboard. Eventually they managed to hoist it over the side and into the sea.
The ship heaved as the anchor scraped along the bottom of the ocean, causing the boat to stop.
As quickly as the storm had begun, it stopped. The clouds cleared, as the sun beamed down across the boat, lighting up the complete chaos the storm had left behind. The sea became calm and smooth.
Lauren scanned the deserted beach and frowned. After one year of trying to find this place, they had finally succeeded. She daydreamed for a while, taking in her surroundings before turning back down the beach to help the others unload their supplies from the raft. The mood was joyful, everyone was laughing and joking, happy they had finally reached their destination. She relaxed for the first time in months and joined in with their laughter.
"Put your hands up!" A woman yelled as she ran from the jungle, accompanied by a tall, handsome man. They both pointed their guns at them.
She repeated her order, angrily. Lauren glanced around at everyone. They all looked confused, and slowly they all raised their arms and faced this woman…

Zoe was watching the commotion at the beach from a safe distance after heading straight back. She knew to hide because she knew that Ben would bring about orders to go straight to the beach, although she expected more then two people to show up. She frowned at this, because althought there were more people from the ship, and appeared harmless and unarmed, there was still no knowing for sure.
She moved from her hiding place and managed to sneak around the jungle to where she had been sleeping at the old beach camp, unseen and fetched her only protection. If Mel and Ben spotted her, she knew she was going to need it before returning to her hiding place to find out what was going on.
"Remembe to stay." Zoe heard a whisper. She knew who had said it, so she didn't bother loooking around for the owner of the voice, she didn't feel his precense, but she knew he was there, watching over her.

Lauren fixed her eyes on the gun the woman was pointing at her. She saw the man walk around behind her.
“We don’t want to hurt you” Someone behind her called out. “We’re here to rescue you, we came to help.”
Lauren looked from the woman to the man, her heart pounding. She had researched the survivors of flight 815, she practically knew them all off by heart. She didn’t recognise these two. They can’t have been on the plane, but then, where were they from?
“Get on the floor” the man snarled. Lauren felt the four men behind her drop to their knees. She didn’t move, her heart was pounding in her chest.
“Who are you?” she asked with a shaky voice.
The man stepped towards her. Her mouth turned dry. He raised the gun to her forehead. Her body froze. Sweat was dripping from her face, the once cold gun barrel had quickly warmed up against her skin, all she could smell was the hot metal.
“Get on the floor” he repeated, almost smirking, staring at her with cold, blue eyes.
She wasn’t taking any chances, and she slowly kneeled down in the sand, not daring to take her eyes off of him.
She saw him raise the gun above her head.
“No, Ben!” she heard the woman cry as he forcefully brought the gun down against her skull.
Everything went black.

Zoe took a short intake of breath as she watched Ben strike the people from the boat. Why couldn't he just let the plane survivors leave? She sighed. Sayid already knew of the news she brought the village. He was likely to spread the word to Jack and the rest of the survivors, and were probably on their way right now.
Although they had been on the island for over a year now, Zoe knew that they all still wanted to go home. She continued to watch from a safe distance safely hidden as Ben and Mel dealt with the people from the ship.

Mel glanced at Ben and noted the hard look on his face. There was no way they were going to get through this easily.
"Put your hands on your heads and don't make any sudden movements. If you do, we will shoot you." Mel said calmly.
"Who are you?" one of the women asked.
Ben took a step toward her, his gun ready.
"What is your name?" Mel asked.
"Lauren." the woman answered quietly.
"Well, Lauren. I suggest you be quiet. You don't want to give my friend here more of a reason to hurt you."
"Get on the floor!" Ben demanded.
Lauren looked scared but didn't move.
"Get on the floor!" he yelled.
Mel was too late to stop Ben. He'd hit Lauren on the head with his gun before she could get to him. She shook her head at his barbaric manner.
Mel saw that they had unloaded some rope from their raft. Making sure that Ben had them covered she stowed her gun in her jeans and grabbed it. One by one she tied the five's arms together. She kept the unconscious Lauren for the last.
"What are you all doing here?" she asked one of the men.
"We've been looking for this place for a long time."
"Why?" Mel asked coldy.
"Research." he answered back.
"Right." Mel scoffed as she tightened the ropes around his wrists.
"Don't move." Mel told all of them as she backed off a bit with Ben.
"They claim they are here for research." she told him.
"That is what they all say."
Mel agreed with him.
"I want you to keep it up." Ben told her. "Keep playing like you are the leader, the one in charge. Give me orders to follow. I want them to remain in the dark about me and the island."
"Okay." Mel said, "It shouldn't be too hard to push you around a little." she teased.
Mel walked back to the group. "Come on, it's time to go." she told them.
"Where to?" the man from before asked as he helped pick up Lauren.
"There you go again with the questions. We're going to a different place. That is all you need to worry about."
Mel looked at Ben, "Cover them from the back." she ordered. "If any of them try anything funny, shoot them."

Emma woke up after a lengthy nap, her head still resting on Jack's outstretched legs. The tranquilizer had worn off and her aching body had returned to normal. Jack was still asleep, propped up against a tree. She smiled. He looked very cute in his sleep. She wandered over to a nearby stream to fill her water bottle and returned to Jack. She caressed him on the cheek lightly to wake him up. His eyes opened and locked onto hers. Emma felt an unexpected surge of electricity. She was strongly attracted to Jack at that moment.
"Have some water, Jack." He smiled back at her, grateful.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"I feel like new. I'm definitely ready for the next step."
Jack grabbed her hand. "Before we go any further, I need to tell you something." He told Emma about Zoe's message to the village, that a boat had landed on the island. She was shocked.
"So this could be your chance to leave the island with Desmond," he said. Emma thought for a moment. It might be some time before she could actually reach Desmond. She knew Des would want to escape the island, but was she ready to? Would Jack want to leave the island? Would the boat still be there once they found Desmond?
She and Jack talked candidly about their hopes and plans. Suddenly, Jack blurted out "I'm staying with you, Emma. I'll go with you to find Desmond."
Emma was stunned. "Why, Jack? I thought we were going to ask Locke or Sayid."
He paused for a moment. "Because I think I'm falling for you."
Emma gulped. She felt the same way towards Jack, but what would this mean once they found Desmond? She couldn't be sure that Desmond would choose her a second time, after all. She had Penny and now Mel to compete with for his affections. And what about Juliet? She asked Jack about this.
"I'm not sure Juliet is the one for me, " he admitted. "There is affection, but not really love." Emma was satisfied with this answer. They talked some more, and agreed that they would head towards the village to hear the latest news about this boat. Emma would stay at the perimeter of the village and wait while Jack retrieved the metal briefcase from Ben's house. They would then forge ahead with the plan to rescue Desmond, and see what happened from there.
"There's just something I need to do first," Jack said. He cupped Emma's face in his hands and kissed her gently. She responded eagerly, and melted into his arms.

Mel and Ben disappeared with their new captives. Once Zoe was sure the coast was clear, she emerged onto the beach from her hiding place. She kept glancing in the direction she saw Ben and Mel leave and then looked at the boat.
"Don't worry Charlie. I am staying, like promised. I just need some answers." She whispered into the ocean breeze before she took off her shoes and socks and ran at the ocean, diving in to the cool depths, refreshing her, clearing her too of the mud and blood stains that had stuck to her on her journey back to the village.
She swam out to the ship, sorley afraid, for she knew what lived in these waters, and didn't help that they were her greatest fears.
She swam underwater to keep undercover, only returning to the surface for air, and then back under again, keeping her eye out for any dangers in the depths.
After about half an hour of swimming against the tide, she made it to the ship, absailing up the chain that held the anchor which was keeping the ship docked.
Flopping onto the deck, she paused to catch her breath back, opening her eyes to the sound of a gun being loaded and cocked.
"Don't move." Came a cold, gruff and serious voice.
