Alas, it doesn't seem like it'll be coming to my city--at least it's not on the website schedule through the end of the year. I'm wondering why it is only being shown at festivals. There is an independent movie theatre where I live that I would expect to show a small film like that (and we have a gay/lesbian community, if that's a prerequisite).
PS: I know I'm weighing in late on the subject, but the "fickle b****" line struck me as out of character too, but I think the way Michael said it was appropriate because at that point Ben has just had the rug pulled tragically out from under him, and he's just generally out of sorts and out of character anyway. (I keep thinking of when he looked up at Locke and said, "I used to have dreams." He seemed so sad and so uncharacteristically genuine.)

Hey there,
I wanted to comment on a few things. We would LOVE the film to be playing at more than just LGBT festivals - unfortunately, we're having a hard time being embraced by them. We've certainly submitted the film to non-gay fests, and have even had interest from from non-gay distribution companies. We've been turned down by 99% of them. READY? OK! is a very clean, non-threatening movie - and in a weird way, that's worked against us. That being said - those who see the movie, gay/straight/younger/older/etc. all completely embrace the movie. We're VERY grateful the gay festival circuit has embraced us and given us a base audience. During our Q&As after screenings, the feedback is always that it has extreme cross-over appeal. Audiences want to know when it will be in theatres.
Bringing me to the next topic - sadly, you won't be seeing it in theatres. The film market, at the moment, is struggling. We're very blessed and lucky in that we're one of not many movies (from both the gay and non festival markets) that have secured a distribution deal. The cost for a theatrical release is pretty high with advertising, theatre rentals, and the need for film prints. In fact, a couple of the films from the circuit this year that are getting limited releases are doing it on their own. So, we may not be in theatres, but we will be on DVD in the spring, followed by a cable release on a cable network in the summer. (An official press release should be coming out soon) Keep checking the website for festival updates, as more are being added weekly. (Especially international festivals).
Thank you all for your support of Michael, Carrie, and the film! And thank you to those who have been able to make it to one of the festivals and support us in person! It' greatly appreciated.
The Daisy 3 Team.

Hi James! Good to hear from you on here again.
It is so good to hear how wonderful the film is doing at the festivals. It is a shame it hasn't been embraced by more of a variety of fests but I still continue to hear great things about it anyway. I am very excited about the DVD release! I am so happy I had the opportunity to see it at QCinema and thrilled that soon we will all be able to own it and the rest of Michael's, Carrie's, and your fans will be able to see it.
Hope you're doing well.
Mel

The Daisy 3 Team. Hi, Jim Glad to hear that you guys are in the black. I am going to see the movie and hopefully meet you in October. Looking forward to finally see the movie that a lot of my friends who saw it did nothing but praise it. The DVD release is really exciting. I am sure that a number of our members will be purchasing it. I will. that's for sure. Jumping Off Bridges, another movie that Michael was in and was not shown in theatres was actually shown on PBS. A cable showing is great and maybe that might lead to PBS as well.

Thanks for explaining how the distribution process works. It's sad that it costs so much money to get a good movie released to audiences who actually want to see it. (I'm reminded of an independent movie I saw in the theatre last year, The Music Within ... We were the only people in the theatre, and I saw online afterwards that it grossed a total of *gasp* $25 dollars that weekend--nationwide! But then it wasn't advertised at all; I had to keep an eye out for it in the listings. Anyway, I thought it was an excellent movie, and I was sad that more people didn't get to see it.)
Well, at least now I can stop holding my breath for a theatre release of Ready? OK!. Unfortunately, this isn't much of a film festival town--except when Philip Seymour Hoffman comes home for a visit--so I'll just keep my eye out for the DVD in the spring and will definitely buy a copy. Please keep us (or at least Edith) posted!

Eek! It is coming to my town, next weekend, but it's not on the official site schedule. Lucky thing I saw the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival cover story on a local entertainment magazine cuz, being a boring old lady, I don't usually bother picking those up. (Guess we do have annual film festivals in these parts; I just haven't been paying attention.) I can't wait to see Michael on the big screen! Now I just have to find someone to go with. I've never been to a film "festival" before. What are they like anyway? Do they just show the films, or are there festivities and stuff too? I don't imagine Michael and Carrie will be showing up as it's showing in at least two other cities the same night.

Is there a website for your town's film festival listed here, www.readyokmovie.com/festivals.html or on the internet? That'd give more details, whether the director might be there to answer questions after the film or not, whether they'll sell food or merchandise, ect. Thanks for the info. That's a good site about film festivals--maybe it'll apply if I ever go to the Toronto film festival. This one does have a website, but it doesn't tell you much about what's happening with each individual film, other than a description of the film. And it still doesn't appear on the schedule of the official Ready? OK site. I went to see it tonight (it was sign-language interpreted, so I ran into a couple of my old co-workers, which was neat), and there was no Q&A, no merchandise that I could see, no flyers or info about the movie ... just a few community announcements by local organizers followed by the film. (Apparently there are some parties around town, but nothing going on at that theatre.) I wished it had more of Michael Emerson in it (he's in just a few really short scenes), but I could understand why it didn't. The story really centered around Carrie's character. I thought he did fine in his "big" cheerleading scene though, very cute. The movie got lots of laughs and lots of applause at the end. It was nice to see him on the big screen.

I'm sorry to read that there weren't a lot of things at your film festival and that Michael wasn't in the film, much. I tried to find a website that listed what smaller film festivals have, but I only found info about what the large, main film festivals offer. Well, if there were other events going on that night, I guess I missed them. Here is the festival's official website: www.imageout.org/2008/08_welcome.htmAnd here is their page about the film: imageout.org/2008/08_prog19.htmMichael pops up in short scenes throughout the film, but you know how it is--there's never enough Michael for me unless he's the lead! He does have that "sweet" scene with Carrie, which turns out to be pivotal. They try not to be distracting to the "deaf-impaired" members of the audience, so they sat off to the side of the theatre on the floor with a small spotlight, and the right front section is "reserved" for people who use interpreting services. We sat in the next row behind that section. (My husband found the interpreters distracting, so I swapped seats with him so he had someone sitting in front of him to block his view of them. Even though I have ADHD, they didn't distract me because I spent so much time in that environment, I could easily "tune them out." Also, I've worked with both of them so often and knew their styles so well that I wasn't tempted more than a couple of times to look and see how they translated a certain word or phrase.) What I found really cool was that they were able to watch the film on a small TV monitor directly in front of them so they didn't have to keep turning around to see what was happening on the screen. We didn't have such luxuries back in my day!

Great interview with Carrie here. She talks about True Blood, LOST and Ready? OK! www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2uL5MFUDdgBut the best news is that Ready? OK! was sold and will be coming to DVD in the Spring!!! Congrats to James, Carrie, and Mike and everyone invovled. I'm thrilled more and more people are going to have a chance to see this fantastic film! Edit: Ok, I just realized James had already posted this info AND I had commented on it. Sorry about that, my mind is fried from my intense student teaching program. Regardless, this is still fabulous news and I will be first in line to pick up my copy of the DVD.
