Mars McTavish opened her eyes.
She found herself in an empty room, tightly tied to an old wooden chair. There's nothing inside the room except an old, dim lamp dangling from the ceiling and an old painting stuck on the wall in front of her. Mars' breathing shallowed, trying not to panic. She cursed on the fact that she has been captured by the Others. Furthermore, she felt guilty for leaving Sayid, Kate and Locke behind. Mars felt a sharp pain on the back of her head, and immediately she felt dizzy. Mars blinked several times, trying her best to fought the darkness that threatened to engulf her once more.
Damn that Richard for knocking me out, she thought.
Mars started to move her arms and body, trying to free herself from the tight ropes that circled her. She growled in frustration. She stood up, her whole upper body still attached to the chair, and ran backwards to the wall - banging the chair against the wall several times, hoping that it would break. After several unsuccessful attempts, Mars fell to her knees, tears started to dwell on the corner of her eyes.
Then she saw a blinking red light on upper corner of the room. She summoned all her energy, stood up, and walked towards the blinking light. The dim light form the lamp barely reached the corners of the room, but Mars could easily identify the object attached to the ceiling.
A surveillance camera.
Someone (or something) is watching her. Suddenly, Mars felt a rush of anger inside her. Here she is right now - in a room, tied to a chair - and the Others are there somewhere, just looking at her and waiting for her next move. Mars channeled all her power, blue waves of electricity once again visible on her hands, and with one confident jerk break the ropes circling her, causing the chair to break in half. Mars smiled at the camera. 'Take that', she thought.
She kicked the broken chair across the room, and the sound of the chair pressed against the wall echoed in the room. There's a huge, metal door on the other side of the room, with several handles on it. As she moved closer to the door, Mars heard footsteps getting closer towards her.
Mars channeled her power once more, ready to strike whoever enters that door.

Carrie sighed, and leant against the front door, looking at Ben in his wheelchair. He watched her too, waiting for her reply.
"Why do you want me to do this?" Carrie asked.
"I would have guessed that was easy," Ben said, raising his eyebrows. "I'm sure, with your talent, you must have figured out by now, that I'm not a man to give something for nothing, nor do I expect others to give something for nothing." Ben leaned forwards the best he could. "If you do this, Carolyna, I will give you what you want."
Carrie was curious. What could Ben possibly have that she would want? "What?" She asked.
"Anything you want," Ben replied, sitting up again. "A ticket off the Island?" He suggested.
Carrie scoffed. "Benjamin, you and I both know I don't want to leave."
"What do you want then?"
Carrie thought for a moment. What was the one thing in the world she wanted more than anything? "I want Kelso back. Can you do that?" Ben was silent, as they both knew it was impossible. "Yeah, thought not." She turned around to go back inside, but Ben spoke first.
"I can find him," Ben said. Carrie turned around. "We can track down your father." Carrie didn't speak, only listened. "We're leaving the Barracks first thing in the morning, but I can ask Amelia to print off a file on him. It only takes a few hours." Carrie still didn't speak, but she and Ben both knew she was going to do what Ben wanted. People always did what Ben wanted. "Can you ask Richard to accompany me somewhere, please, Carolyna," he said.
"Fine." Carrie made her way back into the house. Richard was coming up from the basement, no doubt having just put Mars down there. "Richard, Ben wants you to go somewhere with him," she said.
"What about Mars?" Richard asked.
"I'll look after her," replied Carrie. "See you later."
"Bye." Richard gave Carrie a quick kiss before leaving.
"And I want you home by midnight!" Carrie called after him jokingly. Richard laughed, before shutting the door behind him.
Now alone, except for Mars in the basement, Carrie sat down on the sofa, thinking about what Ben had told her to do.
A few hours had passed since Richard had left with Ben. In the meantime there'd been some sort of massive explosion in the distance, but Carrie hadn't thought about it much. She'd only hoped Richard hadn't been caught in the explosion.
Her mind was set on more worrying things. Like what Ben had asked her to do. What Ben was going to do for her. Or, more precisely, what Ben was going to ask Amelia to do for her. Was Ben telling the truth? Could he really find Carrie's father? And even if he could, Carrie was having second thoughts about knowing. She didn't ever want to leave the Island, because she knew she wouldn't be able to get back easily. So she'd be sitting there, on the Island, knowing where her father was, but unable to reach him.
But whether she liked it or not, Carrie had struck a deal with Ben. And she had to follow it through. Reluctantly, she stood up and unlocked the store cupboard. She looked into the small, darkened room and picked out the best tool for what she had to do. Locking the door behind her, Carrie tucked the object in her pocket, her shirt concealing it. Slowly, she made her way to the door. She could hear banging - Mars had woken up. Carrie wished she'd done it earlier, or later, when Mars was asleep. But it was too late now. Now was the time to do it.
Carrie slowly opened the door to the darkened room.

Mars waited patiently, her heart racing. She heard a clicking sound from outside the door, followed by a loud 'clack' sound. Mars watched with extreme concentration as the big, heavy door began to swing open slowly.
Mars sent a lightning bolt to the door with her left hand, causing the door to swing open - and with an inhuman speed and precision sent another lightning bolt to the woman behind the door, lifting her body off the ground and throwing her against the wall outside the room. Mars watched as an object began to slide towards her feet.
Mars' eyes widened in fear.
A gun.
Before Mars could even think what to do next, she was thrown accross the room, her back bashed against the wall with such and incredible force. Mars screamed in pain. Mars fell to her knees and quickly looked at the woman outside the room.
"Carrie?" Mars asked, her voice trembling.

Carrie was taken aback slightly when the door suddenly swung open. Before she could react, Carrie herself was pushed violently back, and hit the wall behind her. Unintentionally, a burst of purple energy came from Carrie's hands and towards Mars. Her gun flew out of her pocket, landing halfway between her and the door. She lifted her hand to her head, and felt blood seeping through her hair.
Carrie stood up, trying not to let Mars notice she was bleeding. Mars herself was flung against the wall in the basement. Carrie picked up her gun and made her way carefully down the stairs.
"Carrie?" Mars' voice was almost a whisper.
"I'm sorry, Mars," Carrie said. She took the safety off her gun. Mars' eyes widened in shock.
"Carrie, wait ... what are you doing?" Mars panicked. "Let me out of here. Please. Help me," she pleaded.
Carrie didn't reply. She braced herself, and lifted the gun in her hands, pointing it at Mars. Carrie's hand was obviously shaking, as the gun was too.
"Please," Mars was getting desperate now. "Please, don't. Don't."
"I'm so sorry, Mars," Carrie whispered, tears pouring down her cheeks. She didn't like what she was doing, she didn't like it one bit, but she knew she had to do it.
"What date is it?" Mars asked. Carrie frowned. Why would Mars want to know that?
"Friday 10 December," Carrie replied. "Day 80."
"Oh my God." Mars buried her head in her hands.
"What is it?" Carrie frowned.
"It's my birthday!" Mars sobbed.
Carrie bit her lip. She didn't want to execute Mars, not on her birthday especially. "I'm sorry, Mars, Ben ordered me to do this. I have to."
"No!" Mars begged, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Please, don't! Think about it, Carrie, please! Don't shoot me!"
Carrie ignored the tears rolling down her own cheeks. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, using her other hand to hold the gun steady.
BANG. BANG. BANG.
BANG.

Mars watched as Carrie walked closer and pulled the safety off her gun. "I'm sorry, Mars." she said. "Carrie? Wait.. what are you doing?" Mars panicked. Carrie aimed at Mars. "Let me out of here. Please. Help me."
Mars moved back as Carrie began to brace herself and pointed the gun at Mars. Mars closed her eyes, tears started to roll down her pale cheeks. Mars trusted Carrie. She knew she is a good person deep down inside her. Seeing Carrie in front of her with a gun aimed towards her is, for Mars, the ultimate betrayal.
Mars channeled her power once more, but she stopped. She couldn't bring herself to hurt Carrie. Mars made a promise to Kelso. She should user her power wisely.
"I'm so sorry, Mars." she said.
Mars looked up, trying her best to hold her tears back. "What date is it?" if she is to die now, she needs to know the date. "Friday, 10th of December." Carrie replied. "Day 80."
Mars' jaw dropped open. She buried her head in her hands. "Oh my God." Mars couldn't contain her emotions anymore. Her body was overwhelmed with sadness and fear, more tears started to stream down her face.
"What is it?" Carrie asked. Mars sobbed and looked at Carrie. "It's my birthday." "I'm sorry, Mars, Ben ordered me to do this. I have to." Carrie lifed her hands up, ready to pull the trigger. "No! Please, don't! Think about it, Carrie, please! Don't shoot me!" Mars pleaded. "I'm sorry."
Mars gasped as Carrie pulled the trigger, sending four hot, sharp bullets to her chest. Mars looked down her chest. Red, sticky blood began to drip down to the ground.
Everything then fades to white.

Carrie's gun dropped from her hand as Mars fell to the floor. She realised she was shaking all over. Not quite able to believe what she had just done, Carrie turned around and ran out of the cold basement, and out of the house. She left the basement door open, but didn't care. Richard could easily walk in, see the open door, then go down and see Carrie's abandoned gun lying near Mars' body.
Carrie ran out of the house and into the cool night air. She didn't know where Richard was, but she wanted to. He was somewhere with Ben, and Carrie knew Ben wouldn't be happy if she disturbed them. Juliet had left for the submarine without saying goodbye. Carrie was alone now.
She sat herself on one of the swings in the children's park, buried her head in her hands and cried until her eyes were red. As she cried, Carrie gently swung herself back and forth on the swing, finding the rocking motion soothing. She sat there for hours, well into the early hours of the next day, until she heard someone approach her from behind.

Day 81 before sunrise
René nudged Cindy awake. It surprised her and René held her hand over her mouth to not scream. "Shh," she whispered. Cindy sat up and René explained all that had been going on over the last couple of hours. Cindy quietly grabbed some of their packs and shoveling clothes into them. René helped organize Zack and Emma's while they still slept.
The walkie crackled "René?" she jolted over to snag it off the counter afraid it would wake the children. She held down the button, "Go ahead."
"I need you to head back and pick something up from me. Ben wants to make sure we're all prepared." Eric relayed the message given to him by Tom.
René shrugged her shoulders at Cindy. "Ok. I'll be over soon." René set the walkie back down and was triple checking the items.
"You know he likes you." Cindy said wryly.
"Who? Eric?" René shook her head fervidly. "Oh no, not my type and no."
"What's the matter? Too young?" Cindy pried
"Let's just say, I'm not ready for a commitment." René rolled her eyes. At least not with him, she said to herself. "He's just not the type of man I'm looking for Cin."
"I didn't say anything about a commitment René" Cindy giggled. René hoped the conversation was Cindy's version of punch-drunk sleep deprivation. "You never know." Cindy added.
René thought long and hard and just decided to not respond. She didn't think Cindy would understand the feelings that were emanating for Ben. "I'll be back." And with the conversation left dangling mid-air René volleyed back out into the dark. She knew the sun would rise soon. She reached Eric's and he was waiting for her outside his barracks with four gas masks.
"What are these for?"
"We're leaving the survivors behind." Eric said blankly handing them to her. As he did so he reached uncommonly with his finger to graze her hand. René politely smiled and turned to go back to her house but before she could get away he spoke up. "I'll meet you, Cindy and the kids by the tables in a couple hours."
"Ok." René's stomach sunk. Cindy was right. How she could have missed it was beyond her. To her, Eric was a distraction. She needed to keep her focus, on her visions, on fulfilling Jacob's orders.

Day 81
Jo woke up in her own bed, alone. She sat up and peeked outside and saw that it was broad daylight. Her arm ached, reminding her of the disastrous events of the night before, and she glanced down to see that it had been placed in a sling, probably by Chase.
Jo crawled out of bed and wandered into the kitchen for a glass of water. A note was taped to the cabinet above the sink, written in Chase’s messy scrawl: “Please forgive me. I’ll find you soon – wait for me. Robert.” She rubbed her head in confusion, then turned to look out the window. She caught a glimpse of Sayid, still handcuffed to the swingset next door. People swarmed all around him with bags and suitcases. Suddenly panicked, Jo tried the front door and, naturally, found it locked. She pounded on the door.
“Hey! What’s going on? I want to talk to Ben!” she screamed as she pounded with her one good hand curled into a fist.
“Move away from the door!” a commanding voice responded. Jo obeyed and waited. Someone fiddled with the lock and the door flew open. One of the Other men appeared in the doorway wearing a gas mask, but it was impossible to tell who it was. He tossed a canister of hissing gas into the living room and darted back through the door, locking it behind him. Terrified, Jo scrambled as far away from the cannister as she could, but the house was so small that a visible cloud of vapor quickly formed in every room. She couldn’t escape it, and was forced to breathe in the harsh fumes. It only took a matter of minutes and she was out cold on the floor in the hallway.

"Do you have everything you need?" Ben asked as Sophie packed her final thing.
"I think so, but i don't understand why were moving" Again Ben had to explain that they village had been found, he had told her before but she had been distracted the past few days.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"No.... no i'm fine...."
"Sophie i was looking over some off your test results and i found something." Juliet said as she looked towards sophie in a worrying manner.
"Oh?"
"Your pregnant."
Sophie sat there shocked with not much memory of her past this is not what she needed right now and she started to cry, she felt lost alone. Only relying on what Ben had said about them and other things.
"Is it his?" she asked Juliet, not knowing for herself. Juliet nodded, "You did love him very much from what i saw. We have to let him know."
"No...... not yet. I need to remember first."
"Sophie he has to know so we can get you off this island...." She paused slightly and hestiated before speaking. "Because if we don't your going to die."

Carrie turned around as she felt someone approach her from behind. It was Richard. "Here," he said, handing Carrie a gas mask. "You might need this."
Carrie stood up, and took the gas mask. "Um ... why?"
"We're leaving, but the survivors are being left behind. It's in case you get caught in any of the gas," Richard explained. He stroked a stray tear from Carrie's face. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"Nothing." Carrie wasn't quite prepared, yet, to tell Richard what Ben had made her do. She just hoped Amelia had been able to print off that file. "When're we going?"
"Now," said Richard. He took Carrie's hand and lead her towards a nearby picnic table, where most of the Others were already, donning gas masks and guns.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"We're going to an old place," Richard replied. Carrie looked at him. What did he expect her to draw from that description?
"Okay ... and why are we going?"
"Ben's orders," Richard replied, not looking at Carrie. There was something he wasn't telling her. "Put your mask on." Carrie did as she was told, as Richard put his on too. He tossed a gun to Carrie, before picking one up himself. "Things might get a little hazy." Richard's voice was muffled through the gas mask, but Carrie could still make out what he was saying. "Just stick with me. Don't leave my side, okay?"
Carrie nodded to show she understood. She watched as some of the Others ran to where the survivors were being kept. Gas canisters were thrown into the buildings. Carrie noticed one Other throwing a canister into Jo's house, before running out.
"C'mon, let's move." Richard grabbed Carrie's hand, as the group of Others made their way quickly out of the Barracks.

Jo's eyes fluttered open very slowly. Her eyes focused on Sayid's face above her. He was holding her head with one hand and with the other he was carefully blotting the blood from a cut on her forehead that must have happened when she fell to the floor.
She groaned and struggled to sit up. "What happened?"
"The Others left the Barracks, and we were left behind." he continued to dab at her cut but Jo waved his hand away.
"Ben would never leave me behind," Jo responded confidently. "I know it."
"Then something must have changed his mind. Take a look outside; the place is deserted."
Jo felt as if she had been slapped in the face. She and Ben had obviously been locked in a constant battle since she had arrived at the Barracks, but she never dreamed he would simply abandon her without so much as a notice. Maybe she had pushed him too far, she realized. Maybe he had given up on her because she was more trouble than she was worth.
She pushed all thoughts of Ben out of her mind as Sayid helped her to stand up. "Where's Jack?"
"We'll meet up with him and Kate in a moment."
"And Zoe? Where is she?"
Sayid shrugged. "She's gone."
Jo's eyes widened in alarm. Why would they have taken Zoe, but left the rest of the survivors behind? Something didn't make sense here. She had last seen Zoe fleeing from the dock after the submarine explosion. She hoped Jack might know more about her whereabouts.
Sayid placed his arm around her waist and helped her to walk to the door. The entire right side of her body was bruised, and her fractured arm continued to ache. Her head felt foggy. She was an absolute mess.
They stepped outside of her little yellow house and Jo was astonished to see Juliet pacing outside, her arms folded across her chest, apparently deep in though.
"Juliet!" Jo cried. "They left you behind? Why?"
Juliet nodded solemnly. "I don't know," was all she said.
Jo gave her friend a hesitant smile. "That means you're one of us now," she told Juliet. Sayid glared menacingly at Juliet, clearly not trusting the blonde stranger. "No matter what happens, Juliet, I've got your back. And I know Jack feels the same way."
Juliet smiled wanly in return. "I appreciate it, Jo."
The weary trio headed towards Jack's house to see what their next steps should be.

Carrie looked out at the looming horizon. She was on the Searcher, Penny Widmore's boat. Kate, Jack, Aaron, Sun, Sayid and Hurley had already left the boat, on a survival raft, to bring them ashore somewhere else. Meanwhile, Carrie, Desmond and Frank had stayed on the boat.
Penny had explained they were returning to the mainland, where Carrie and Frank could go back home. But the only thing was, Carrie couldn't go back home. 'Home', to her, meant the Island. But she couldn't go back. As she dwelled on this thought, Carrie unconsciously placed a hand on her stomach. In the other hand, she clutched a file. It was well thumbed through, and wet from when the helicopter had crashed, but she'd refused to let it go. It contained information about the only place she could go now. The only other place, apart from the Island, she could possibly consider calling Home.
Penny and Desmond had dropped Frank off in the US, but Carrie had continued with them back to England. Although she needed to go to the US, England was her starting point. There was one thing she needed to do first, before anything else.
It was days before they'd reached England, but finally they docked in Portsmouth. Carrie had a large sum of money in her pockets, which Richard had given her to help her get around. Where he'd got the money, she had no idea. He'd explained he owed her the money anyway, as it was equal to 5 years' worth of the pay he'd promised her, back when he'd recruited her under Mittelos Bioscience.
It pained Carrie just to think of this. She knew she would probably never be able to go back to the Island - it was damned impossible to get there in the first place, and besides, she couldn't go back for the precise reason she'd left in the first place. Richard had promised to try and leave the Island to see her, but he had to guide Locke, which made it extremely inconvenient for him to leave the Island, and Carrie knew full well that Richard put the Island before anyone or anything else. He'd said he'd probably only be able to leave once or twice - or perhaps never.
"We're here." Penny's English accent made Carrie jump. She turned around, and smiled gratefully at Penny.
"Thank you," she said. Penny smiled back.
After saying her goodbyes to Penny and Desmond, Carrie recognised she was in Gumwarf Quay. She smiled as she saw the structure of Spinnaker Tower. When she'd left, work hadn't even started on it, but now it was almost complete. It was meant to open for the millenium, but evidently that hadn't worked out.
It was a strange sensation for Carrie to walk down the quay and the streets. She was so used to the Island, and only being around 50 people at a time maximum, she felt a bit chlaustrophobic, with much more than 50 people surrounding her, going this way and that. She didn't recognise any of them, which also felt quite unusual to her.
Carrie was glad to know she could still remember the way to the train station. It had been so long, she was worried she'd have forgotten, but there it was. It was another strange sensation for her to see the trains. Everything felt alien to her - like another world. But whether it was another world, or just somewhere different in the same world, Carrie knew she didn't belong there.

Eric tagged along with René along the tree line gathering firewood. They were about half mile from the camp. Since moving to the site four days ago René had been on edge. Ben had told her he had other plans for her and to be patient for now, to just take care of camp. She felt like she was being cheated out of taking care of the children but Ben insisted this is what Jacob really wanted. She began breaking some fallen branches with her feet with a heightened annoyance.
"Wanna talk about it?" Eric seemed insistent. He'd been virtually stuck to her hip since leaving the barracks. René shot a look at him. Not aggravated, but more dismissive. The classic, do we have to do this now look. She wasn't sure if she really wanted to talk to him. Whom she wanted to speak to was Juliet, but with her being cast out, that was no longer an option.
She shook her head at the same time words slipped from her lips, "I just don't understand him anymore." She chucked a stick to the side and sat down. Eric knelt down beside her. "You can't question Ben René. Questioning Ben is questioning Jacob."
René sighed. "I know, I'm just so confused lately." Eric then sat beside her, he brushed her hair out of her face and over her shoulder. "I know your in love with him." He said staring at the ground. René was fixated. A thousand thoughts jumbled through her brain. She tried to shake off what he had said. "I have no idea what your talking about." She picked up a small rock and threw it off to the side and fiddled with the grass in front of her.
"Come on René. I see the way you look at him." He took a long pause. "Because it's the way I look at you." René was dumbfounded. Her jaw slightly agape with sheer surprise. "You know he'll never love you back, not like I can. Let me take care of you, please." She just starred at him with uncertainty.
"I-I," she paused and closed her eyes trying to find the next word, she was speechless. She didn't want to use him, but she hadn't been held by a man in so long. "Eric," He clasped her face in his hands and leaned in and kissed her passionately. "I don't care if you love me or not, but let me be with you." He almost sounded as if he were begging.
She leaned back into him and kissed his sweet thick lips. She crawled into his lap. He kissed her neck and slowly moved his hands down her back tucked his hands beneath her shirt and pulled it off. She removed his shirt as well. They eventually laid to the ground and passionately made love. The whole time, René only wishing it were someone else.

Jo quickened her pace when she spotted Jack rounding the corner of the mustard yellow house ahead of her. His face lit up, and he left Kate behind to meet her, enveloping her in a neverending bear hug the moment he reached her. Jo never wanted to let go of him again.
"What is this? What happened?" Jack asked, pointing towards Jo's sling.
She rolled her eyes. "Locke happened." Jack grimaced.
"It doesn't matter anymore," Jo spoke as she gazed into the eyes she had been missing more than anything. "Let's go home."
Jack readily agreed. He noticed Juliet for the first time. "You okay?"
"Yeah. You?" Juliet responded. Jack nodded, then acknowledged Sayid. Kate hung back from the rest of the group, clearly uncomfortable with Jack's easy rapport with Juliet.
"We should take what we can find and head out while we've still got light," Jack advised.
Sayid spoke calmly, but assertively, and gestured towards Juliet. "She is not coming with us."
Jack was quick to respond. "Yes she is."
"Why?"
"Because they left her behind too." Jo smiled at Jack in approval and slipped her hand into his.
Kate chose this moment to speak up. "We can't leave without Mars."
Jack was visibly startled. "Mars came with you too? Have you seen her?"
"They took her with them," Juliet replied.
Jo narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "How do you know that?"
"After the submarine exploded, and before they gassed us, they took John Locke into captivity. I saw them escort Mars, in handcuffs, into the same house. They've taken both of them. I'm sure of it."
Sayid nodded, satisfied with Juliet's explanation. "There are no living souls left in this place apart from us."
Jack seemed satisfied as well. "We'll have to figure out another plan to get Mars back, but as far as I'm concerned...Locke's on his own. Let's get moving."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack and Juliet took the lead and Jo and Sayid followed behind. Kate remained in the rear, looking pensive and unhappy.
Jo reached for Sayid's arm and pulled him out of Jack and Juliet's hearing range. She spoke in a low voice. "You can trust Juliet. I've spent the last five weeks with her and she's a good person, Sayid. She saves lives."
Sayid wasn't buying it for a moment. "If she's so important to them, why would they leave her behind? It doesn't make sense."
Jo shook her head vigorously. "Ben has his reasons for abandoning her, same as he abandoned me, but we'll never know what they are. There is nothing more to it."
Sayid looked at her with a guarded expression. "We'll see which of us is right."
The group continued hiking in silence until they came to a stream. Sayid pulled a water bottle out of his backpack. "Its getting late. This is a good place to make camp."
Before he wandered off to gather firewood, Jo pulled Jack aside. "Sayid isn't going to let up on Juliet," she warned. "He's suspicious. They will all be suspicious, Jack. This isn't going to be easy."
Jack shrugged. "I know, but we'll just have to see how it unfolds."
"There's another thing that worries me, Jack. We've found no trace of Zoe. It doesn't make sense that the Others would want to be rid of all of us except for her. Do you think something happened to her? Nobody has seen her since the sub, and she's sick..."
Jack kissed her tenderly on the lips to reassure her. "She'll find her way back. She's been through worse, right?"
Jo nodded, still feeling troubled.
"Take a rest, Jo." Jack recommended. "I'll collect the firewood. We'll be back at our camp tomorrow, and we'll take it from there."
Mentioning the survivors' camp brought a new fear to Jo's mind. "What if they don't trust me?" she worried. "Apart from Juliet, I've been with the Others the longest. What if they think I'm one of them now?"
"You'll never be one of them," Jack replied, caressing her cheek lovingly. "And they all know that."
Day 87 (Becuase I'll be on holiday then, and I'm not sure I'll be able to get a connection)
Carrie was in her tent, lying on her bed, propped up by her pillows. She was reading 'The Girls' for the millionth time. She looked up and smiled as Richard entered the tent.
"I'm gonna go talk to John," he said, picking up his bag. "I'll be back soon, okay?"
"Okay," Carrie agreed, as Richard kissed her forehead affectionately before leaving.
After a few minutes, Carrie decided to go sit outside with her book. It was quite hot, and she was starting to feel the heat in the stuffy tent. The cool air outside felt quite nice against her face after the stuffiness of the tent. She sat down on one of the chairs, and watched as she saw Richard sit down on the grass by Locke in the distance. She was about to return to her book, when Ben appeared in front of her. She looked up at him with a questioning look on her face.
"Glad I've come to you at a time you're not wrapped around my advisor," he said.
"Funny." Carrie replied. "What do you want, Benjamin?"
"It's finished," Ben said simply, handing her a red file. "Anything and everything you need to know about your father."
Hesitantly, Carrie took the file. She looked at it, then at Richard in the distance, then back at Ben. "Thank you," she said.
"Anytime," smirked Ben. He turned around and walked back to his tent.
Carrie put her book down, and looked at the file. For the past twenty-one years, she'd wanted to know where her dad was, now she could know, just by opening the file. After a few moments' hesitation, she opened the file. In it were several sheets of paper, and some photograhs. She looked at them - some were from weeks ago, even months. Ben had been planning this for a long time. He'd gathered the information in preparation for when he needed Carrie to do something for him. Sneaky git, Carrie thought.
The pictures didn't give much information away. She easily recognised her father, but he was always with people she didn't recognise. There was a woman recurring in most of the photographs, a woman who looked strangely familiar, but Carrie couldn't quite put her finger on it.
She picked up the papers and started reading them. Her father was living in Nashville, Tennessee. She was right, Kelso had been talking about her father before he died. As a child, Carrie's dad had always told her that her true home was Nashville. But he had been wrong. His true home was Nashville, not hers. Carrie's true home was here, on the Island.
Her father had re-married, to a woman who Carrie figured must have been the one from the photographs. Her name was Lorlai Copeland, née Granger. Why did Carrie recognise her? She couldn't quite figure it out. There was just something familiar about her face.
Carrie was surprised to realise her father and his new wife had a 12-year-old daughter, Destiny Hope Copeland. She had a sister! The file went on to explain that 5 years before Destiny was born, they'd had a daughter. But her dad, for an undisclosed reason, didn't feel he was ready to raise the child, so they'd given it up for adoption. For another undisclosed reason, they'd travelled to Oxford, England to give the child away. The child had been given a new first name, a new surname. Ben had put paticular effort into researching this child, and Carrie knew why. Because of the name. A name she recognised only too well.
Carrie's heart skipped a beat, as she realised, only a few days ago ... she'd killed her sister.
