René kept walking to camp and went straight to Ben's house before stopping at her own to drop her things off. She lightly tapped on his door.
"Come in." He spoke loud enough for her to him but his voice was a low timber as usual. She opened the door and stepped in. Ben was coming out of one of his rooms. "Get some rest now." He spoke to someone else in the room. "He wheeled himself to the living room where René waited for him.
"Oh good, your back. How'd it go?" Ben pried a bit, but all the while seeming unintrusive. "Enjoy a little time off?"
"Yes, very much. Thank you Ben."
"Well, you were our back-up. If Tom couldn't convince Michael we knew you would have been a particular help."
"Ben, I'm not sure how comfortable I would have been attempting to approach Walt. I'm not sure how safe it would have been. His abilities are much more than we anticipated."
"Yes, but, we have no need to worry about that now, do we?"
"I guess not. I just wanted to say thank you again, and if there is anything else you need to please let me know. I planned on unpacking and meeting up with Cindy, Zack and Emma a bit later." She felt herself begin to feel jittery. Apparently being away for a few days did not dissipate her growing feelings for him.
She began to wander around his living room scanning his book shelf. "Guess we haven't met in a while huh?" Referring to the book club. Ben smirked and looked at the floor.
"Well, I'll get out of your hair." René shuffled towards the door and grabbed her pack.
"René," Ben paused. "Thanks again for telling me about Jo and Jack. I do appreciate your loyalty." He smiled at her.
She continued toward the door and smiled back his way. She was almost out the door when Ben caught her attention one last time. "Oh René?!" She stopped in her footsteps and back pedaled back in.
"When you see Richard, can you please send him my way."
"Sure." With that she shut the door and headed back to her barracks. She wandered across the paddock and mind wandered back to her dreams. A smile came across her face. More at ease with her duties on and for the island. She hummed to herself.
"You sure you're ok with this? I know it's still early?" Richard asked
"I'm positive." René packed the last of her bags and threw it over her shoulder.
René looked the room over and walked out the door of her home with Richard. A black car waited outside. Tom was driving. Richard opened the door for René and took her bags she carried to put in the trunk. He got in on the passenger side.
"Welcome aboard" A very stocky boisterous man said.
"Thank you." René replied and gave the slightly nervous smile she sometimes had.
"You'll enjoy all the work we do René. You'll get to see everything your husband did for us." Richard said calmly not taking his eyes off of her.
She looked him back in the eye. "I look very much to seeing it" She said coldly. As much as she had recently began to grieve over her Shannon, she couldn't help but feel somewhat betrayed by him for lying to her about his work. Now it would all come clear.

Day 79
-Earlier in the day
Mars has been walking for hours. She and Kate met up with Locke, Sayid and Danielle in the jungle yesterday night, and have decided to move according to the bearing Mr. Eko left on his ‘Jesus Stick’. She have told Locke, Sayid and Danielle about her ability, and that she needs to find a nearby source of electricity to replenish her power. Mars grunted. Her legs were numb.
“So, Mars, let me get this straight. You can manipulate electricity, and not generate it?” Locke asked. Mars looked up to him. She admires Locke’s bravery, faith and of course, his outstanding skill when it comes to Backgammon. Locke looked at her, raising an eyebrow, breaking Mars’ chain of thoughts. “Oh. Yes, Mr. Locke.” Mars nodded. “I know it’s weird.” “I don’t think it’s weird at all. It’s amazing how your body can act like one giant capacitor.” Mars grinned and smiled. “We need to eat.” Sayid said. “Are we still on course?” Locke asked. “We’re still heading north on a bearing of 3 0 5. Yes.” Sayid responded. “I’m sensing lack of confidence.” “We’ve been walking for two days, following a compass bearing provided by the carvings on a stick!” Sayid said, his voice rising. “And?” Locke asked.
Mars sighed, her body overwhelmed with fatigue. Sayid looked at her. “I’m going to find some fruit, and then, John, we’ll have a rational conversation regarding our next move.” Locke nodded and Sayid went off to pick up some fruit as Mars sat down on the ground, trying to heal her sore legs with her remaining power.
-------------------------------
Mars crouched behind a tree, eating her mango while looking at a house with a barnyard not far ahead of her. Sayid looked through his binoculars. He told everyone earlier that he saw a man with an eye patch. Mars narrowed her eyes. He could be one of the Others.
“You sure it’s completely isolated?” Locke asked. “I’ve circled the house.” Sayid explained. “Nothing but jungles surrounding it. Here.” He handed his binoculars over to Locke. Locke pointed at the satellite dish located on top of the house. “Does that dish still work?” he asked. “A satellite dish of that size would have broadcasting capabilities for thousands of miles.” Sayid said. “Danielle, you once mentioned a radio tower. Is this it?” He turned to Danielle.
“I have never been here before.” Daniel responded simply, with a thick French accent. “The man in the house, you said you’ve seen him before?” Kate asked Sayid. “On a video feed from the Pearl station.” Sayid said. Mars scratched her head. This whole thing is starting to confuse her. Mars sighed. She sensed electricity from that house, and she needs to go there to replenish her power right away. “So who is he?” Mars asked. Sayid looked at her. “Only one way to find out.” Sayid handed his gun to Kate. “We ask him.” “What’s this for?” Kate asked, shocked.
“If I’m unarmed, he won’t feel threatened. In case he is threatened, you cover me from here.” Sayid looked at Mars. “You too, Mars. Cover me. Do you still have some power left?” “Um,” Mars thought. “I might be able to hurl a lightning bolt or two if you need some cover.” Mars looked at Danielle, who started to walk away from the group. “Where are you going?” Kate wondered. Danielle looked sharply at Kate. ” I have no interest in that man inside the house. I have survived on the island precisely by avoiding these types of encounters. I’ll wait for you by the stream, for those of you who survive.” She then started to walk into the jungle, leaving Mars and the rest of the team on their own. -----------------------------
Mars sat down on the couch beside Sayid and watched as Mikhail – the man with the eye patch - began to nurse Sayid’s wounds. Sayid was shot when he approached the house and the team rushed in when Mikhail walked towards Sayid and forced him to drop his weapon.
It turns out that Mikhail had spent some time with the Soviet Army in Afghanistan, getting field medicine experience. He came to this island eleven years ago, and was put to this house which is actually another DHARMA station called ‘The Flame’. The purpose of this station is to communicate with the outside world. He also added that everyone else in the DHARMA initiative died in a foolish attack called ‘The Purge’ on a group he call “The Hostiles”.
“How did you survive this purge?” Sayid asked. “By not participating in it. I told you, I like being alone.” Mikhail answered.
Mars then left Sayid and Kate alone, and followed to a room with a computer displaying a chess game. Locke decided to start a new game. “Do you want to power up first?” Locke asked, not looking away from the computer screen. Mars nodded. “Yeah.”
Mars place her hands on the side of a huge computer, and blue waves of electricity began to travel to her body. Mars sighed. She continued to extract electricity, and the lights inside the room began to flicker. Locke looked up, his eyes widened in both fear and amazement when he saw Mars enveloped with blue and white waves of electricity. Mars felt a sharp pain on her chest, a signal that her body couldn’t take anymore electrical current. Instead of stopping, Mars pushed on. She then fell to the ground a few moments later, her arms trembling.
“You OK?” Locke stood up and helped Mars to stand. “Never better.” Mars sighed. “Thanks, John.” Mikhail had finished patching up Sayid’s wound when Mars walked in. He stood up. “Perhaps I can begin to earn your forgiveness by offering you some iced tea. I will also check on your friend.” Mikhail smiled at Mars and began to walk away to the room Locke was in.

Day 79
Zoe felt a little weight off her shoulders after her talk with Jo, it was nice to have someone to talk to, and Jo was her best friend on this island, and the only one she had felt she could confide in. Zoe was reluctant to tell Jo that Charlie was the father of her baby, of course, Zoe's obvious indication of her adoration for Charlie more then likely suggested just who was the father of the baby.
Zoe was a little on edge. It was just a day before she would get the sub back home - well, back to civilization. She didn't have a home afterall now, since Widmore had destroyed it, and her work, and despite her anxiety, her mind wondered to Charlie again, how much his words had hurt her, yet, she couldn't muster enough anger to hate him. She had even written a birthday card and managed to create an ideal present for him which she had left on the desk in her bedroom, with hope someone she could rely on would deliver it, or he would find it someday, and in the card were the details of her pregnancy.
Zoe was sat on the sofa, she was reading a book, her eyes occasionally darting to the couple of fully packed bags by the door. She was reading a book she had already read several times, 'To Kill a Mockingbird', and realised it was probably one of the most ordinary things she had done since arriving on the island. How she looked forward to reading in a more familiar environment again.
There was a knock on the door, and Zoe answered it. It was Juliet.
"Are you ready to go now?" Juliet asked.
"Now? I thought we weren't leaving til tomorrow?" Zoe asked.
"Leaving early hours. It's gone midnight, plus, complicated time difference. That and Tom and Rene are back early." Juliet replied simply. She glanced at Zoe's packed things. "Well, I guess that little lot there answers my question. Want some help?" Juliet asked not bothering to wait for an answer and grabbed one of Zoe's bags for her.
"Thanks, Juliet." Zoe replied and grabbed the other, and they both walked across the barracks, but instead of heading for the docks, they were met by Jack halfway, between the park and Ben's house.
"Ready?" Juliet asked, and Jack nodded.
"What's going on?" Zoe asked curiously. "Hey, where's Jo?" Neither of them answered, Jack figuring it best to keep Jo's whereabout as low key as possible, besides, once on the sub, it could all be explained.
"We are going to see Ben, there are just a few words that need saying before we leave." Juliet replied, ignoring Zoe's question. Zoe nodded in understanding and they moved on toward Ben's house and knocked on his door. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 80(Cuz I probs won't be online on day)
"Thank you Ben." Zoe spoke to him, she stood before him, clutchhing one of her luggage bags, as he was sat before her in his wheelchair, wearing his pjs, smiling at her with satisfaction, a strange expression that Zoe's couldn't really decifer. Juliet and Jack continued their thanks, and finished with Jack shaking Ben's hands, and a promise that Ben let Kate and Sayid go once they were on the sub and on their way home.
Zoe left Ben's house with Jack and Juliet, wondering where the hell Jo was and why everyone was being hush hush about it all.
"Jack. Juliet. What the hell is going on? Where's Jo?" She asked. They said nothing.
"Shh." Jack murmered. "Not now." They were escorted by Tom and Ryan to the docks, and were about to make their way along the docks when suddenly out of no-where, Locke appeared, from the direction of the sub, a smug smile on his face.
"John. What are you doing here?" Jack frowned, guessing whatever the reason, it wasn't good. Locke got to his knees with his hands in his air as Tom and Ryan aimed their guns at him and told hom to get to the ground.
"I'm sorry, Jack." Was all John Locke answered, then, a moment later, the submarine exploded, everyone ducked from the flying debrie. Zoe;'s jaw dropped in horror as she stared awr-struck, her ride home, gone forever, the happy, fluttering feeling in her stomache churning into devestation, worry and despair. She stared at John angrily, tears spilling down her face, and she roared screams at him as she lashed out at him, attacking him, but someone tugged her off him, whilst Tom and Ryan grabbed Locke and tied him up, leading him away from her sight. Zoe fought against whoever had restrained her, she turned to see it was Jason, and she whacked a powerful slap at him and he quickly let go. She stormed off into the darkness, into a small section of the jungle that led to a portion of the beach, she slumped herself down in the sand and stared out to see, somewhere, home was beckoning for her, and her only hope of answering it's call was now shattered into tiny peices.

“What’s wrong?” Sayid asked while Kate bandaged his arm. Kate leant forward and whispered. “It just doesn’t make any sense. Why would they let him stay here with all this stuff, all this equipment.” “Actually it makes perfect sense.” Sayid replied. “What are you talking about?” “The reason they let him stay here is because he is not DHARMA. He is one of them.” Sayid put an emphasis on the word ‘them’. Mars nodded. Sayid could be right. “He shot you and you just let him- Why are we still sitting here?” Mars asked. “We are sitting here, Mars, because I am certain he is not alone.” Sayid said.
Mars nodded. She can’t seem to understand why are the Others so hostile towards the survivors. Her chain of thoughts was broken when she saw Mikhail holding a glass of iced tea in front of her.
“I grow the tea myself, so pardon the sweetness.” He said while handing the iced tea to Sayid and Kate. Mars narrowed her eyes when their gaze met. There’s something in the way Mikhail looked at her. It seems like he knew something about her. Mars pushed her thoughts away and quickly took a sip of iced tea. Mars watched Sayid and Mikhail talk and listened to them carefully. Mikhail said that there were various stations on the island, an underwater beacon that emits solar pings to help guide the vessels (or submarines), and Sayid said that the survivors had a sailboat but captured by the Hostiles. “That’s very unfortunate.” Mikhail said.
“Well” Sayid said, “At least we were able to kill one of them.” Mars looked at Sayid, disbelieved at what he just said. Mikhail paused and looked at Sayid. “Why are we continuing to play this little game when we all know it has moved to the next stage?” He hissed. Mikhail threw the pitcher of iced tea against the wall and, with an amazing speed, attacked Sayid and Kate. Mars lunged forward, channeled some of her power to her leg, and kicked Mikhail squarely on the back. Mars grunted. Mikhail stepped towards her, his eyes flashed with anger. Mars clutched her fist and was ready to give Mikhail a powerful blow to his chest when Kate knocked him out with a rifle. Breathing heavily, Mars watched as Locke comes in with a pistol. “Get some rope.” Sayid said.

Carrie looked up as heavy rain suddenly began to fall from the sky. Richard had taken her to another part of the Island, and they were far from any shelter. Already, they were both soaking wet.
"Is the rain always this heavy?" Carrie had to raise her voice so Richard could hear her through the pouring rain.
"You'll get used to it," Richard replied, also raising his voice. "It's actually quite nice once you do."
"I think the phrase rhymes with 'clucking bell'," Carrie said, all her clothes having now completely absorbed the rain water. Richard ducked under a thick tree canopy for shelter, and Carrie followed suit.
"C'mon, it's not that bad," Richard said. Neither of them needed to raise their voices now, as the canopy overhead muffled the noise of the rain. "Look on the bright side."
"There is no bright side!" Carrie replied. "We're hours away from the Barracks, soaking wet. How can there possibly be a bright side?"
"We've got an excuse for staying out here longer." Richard stood behind Carrie, and wrapped his arms around her waist. She smiled and placed her hands on his strong arms, as he gently kissed her shoulder. He reached one hand up, the other still on her waist, and tenderly pushed her wet hair behind her ear. Butterflies rose up in Carrie's stomach as she felt Richard's hot breath on the side of her face. He gently whispered into her ear, "I love you."
The butterflies in Carrie's stomach went crazy then. They'd been together for a month now, and this was the first time Richard had said those words to her. "I love you too," Carrie whispered back. Richard smiled, and ran his hand down Carrie's bare arm, leaving it to rest on her hip.
At this point, Carrie knew what Richard was planning next. He was going to have sex with her, something which Carrie had only wished for before. She turned around in his arms, and kissed him. Richard carressed her hips with care, knowing he shouldn't give away his intentions too quickly. But he guessed Carrie may have already figured out what he wanted to do.
Knowing now that Carrie knew what he wanted and hadn't made him stop, Richard surrendered his actions to his ever-growing lust, and their kiss became much more passionate. Richard lifted Carrie and, without force, he pushed her up against a nearby tree. The rain was still falling, it was even making its way through the canopy now, but neither of them noticed. They fumbled with each other's clothes, Carrie not quite able to believe what was happening. She kissed Richard again, both of them full of both love and lust, as Richard pushed his body closer to hers.

Day 80
Mars walked down the trails and paths of the jungle along with Kate, Mikhail, Sayid and Locke. Yesterday was quite a day full of discovery. Sayid and Kate found this secret underground hatch, which turned out to be DHARMA’s ‘The Flame’ station, and the station is wired full with C4 explosives. They met a woman named Klugh, which Kate immediately recognized as the woman that kidnapped her at the dock. Mars didn’t really know what happened next, but Klugh was then shot by Mikhail in the heart. Mikhail told Sayid to kill him, but Sayid didn’t shoot. When they left the station at night, suddenly the station explodes. Sayid was enraged and asked Locke what have he done, and Locke replied that that the computer said if there was an incursion to enter 7-7, so he did. They also found a map leading to a place called the Barrack – supposedly where the Others are leaving. “Hey… look at this! Over here! Come on!” Danielle said. Mars and the rest of team walked out of the jungle and looked up at massive pylons located not far ahead. “Well, looks like we’re here.” Locke said.
Kate walked up to take a closer look, but Sayid grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Don’t touch it.” He said, “Don’t even get near it. What are these pylons?” He asked Mikhail “What do you think they are?” Mikhail asked back coldly. “A security perimeter. Those sensors on the side would be triggered if anyone passed between them. It’s an alarm system, or a trap. Either way, we’d be safer going around it.” Sayid said. “You’re right, it was a security perimeter. But like everything else on this island, it hasn’t functioned in years.“ Mikhail said. “Of course it hasn’t.” Sayid said, disbelieved. “If you wish to waste your time, be my guest. The pylons encircle the entire Barracks. There is no going around them. If you don’t believe me, look at your map.” Mikhail said. Sayid, Kate and Mars looked at the map while Locke dropped his bag to the ground. “He appears to be telling the truth.” Mars said. Locke then grabbed Mikhail by the suit and pushed him through the sonic barrier. “John! John!” Sayid tried to stop him, but it was too late. The barrier started up “Thank you.” Mikhail said.
A pulse was then fired and Mikhail was thrown to the ground. Judging from the blood coming from his ear and nose and the foam coming out of his mouth, Mars knew that Mikhail’s brain was hemorrhaged. Mars closed her mouth with her hand as she saw that happening. “Oh my God!” Kate exclaimed. “Sorry.” Locke responded simply. ---------------------------------------------------
Thirteen-year-old Mars winced in pain as her dad struck her relentlessly with his belt.
“It’s all because of you!” he yelled, “Now we have no money! Now how the f*ck am I going to buy my beer?” he then kicked Mars squarely in the stomach, causing her to gasp for air. She grunted, her body curled in a fetal position. Her dad snarled and with one confident move pulled the collar of her shirt and lifted her up, then pinned her against the cold, brick wall of the house. Blood began to trickle down her neck.
“Listen, dad.” Mars said, struggling to keep her voice audible. “I can get you more money if you want to.”
Her dad grabbed her by the throat. “And how the hell you gonna do that?” He kicked Mars’ stomach with his knee, causing her to yelp in pain.
Mars smiled. “I’m going to London with my friends tomorrow.”

Day 80
Jo spent an uncomfortable, sleepless night nestled in a banyan tree about a quarter of a mile away from the submarine dock. The inevitable search party had walked right passed her during the night. She had frozen in fear, but thankfully remained undetected. She gathered from snatches of their conversation that they had conducted a thorough search of the submarine and found nothing. They were now moving on to the boat house, assuming Jo had taken one of the smaller boats back to the Suvivors' Camp. 'Terrific,' Jo thought to herself. 'Keep following that trail.'
As dawn broke, Jo stepped outside the tree to stretch her legs briefly, then squeezed back into her little shelter. She knew she wasn't safe quite yet and decided to remain in the banyan tree until night. Tonight was the night that Jack, Zoe and Juliet would board the submarine, and she basked happily in the knowledge that she would be waiting for them inside. She rummaged through her backpack for the fruit and the novel she had stashed inside and began the long, impatient wait for darkness to conceal her sprint towards the submarine.

Mars and the rest of the team arrived at the outskirts of the Barracks after a short walk and hid in the surrounding foliage. The Barracks is actually a more modern, suburb-like area complete with decorative landscaping and recreational utilities - unlike what Mars imagined before.
Mars then saw Jack running towards them. "Jack!" Kate muttered and started to run out of the jungle, but Sayid held her back. Jack turned around and catched a football thrown by an Other. "His name is Tom." Kate said to Mars. Mars nodded. Jack threw the ball back, and Tom threw it to Jack once more before he spiked it to the ground. An Other Mars identified as Juliet was seen approaching Jack, and eventually brings Ben who then shakes hand with him. Mars looked around and realized that Danielle is gone.
Locke put his binoculars down. "This is going to be more complicated than we thought." he said.
Mars and the team retreated into the woods, and Mars watched as Kate loaded some ammo into her rifle.
"So what exactly are you saying? We simply start shooting people and hope for the best?" Sayid asked Kate. "We came here to rescue Jack, and that's what we're going to do." Kate replied. "But obviously the circumstances have changed. He may not want to be rescued." "That is not him! That's not Jack. They must have done something to him. When they captured us, they drugged us!" Kate yelled, her voice rising. "He didn't appear to be drugged, Kate." Sayid calmly explained. "They kidnapped him! Held him prisoner! He wouldn't just forget that!"
"I agree." Sayid said "But until we know why, we're putting our lives at risk." Kate starts to walk away. "I'm not leaving him, Sayid." Mars put one hand on Kate's shoulder. "You may not have a choice, Kate."
"It's Jack." Locke said, "The first time I saw him he was risking his life pulling people out of burning airplane wreckage. If he's shaking hands with the Others, I'm sure he has a good reason. We just have to go down there and find out what it is." "What do you suggest?" Mars asked, stretching her arms.
"We wait till it's dark, we approach Jack when he's alone... and if he wants out, we get him out." Locke smiled.

Carrie smiled to herself as she sat on a chair on the front porch, the sun beaming down. She hummed quietly as she wrote musical notes on the manuscript paper she had on her lap. Her feet were propped up on another chair in front of her.
It was rather tranquil in the Barracks. Most people were either indoors, or enjoying the sunshine. As she looked around, Carrie could see some people reading books, some watering plants, some writing or drawing like she was, and in one clearing, Jack was playing football with Tom. Carrie watched with casual interest as Juliet went over and said something to Jack, who then went over and began speaking to Ben.
Carrie stared absent-mindedly into the trees in the distance, not really focusing her thoughts on anything. Her mind was brought back to earth, however, as she saw something moving in the bushes. At first she thought it might have been a boar, but the boar didn't come into the Barracks. They couldn't get through the sonic barrier, unless they knew the passcode, which Carrie somehow doubted. They didn't have fingers, anyway, they couldn't press the buttons.
She stood up and put her hands on the pole supporting the porch roof, looking out at the bushes. The person there moved, and their face came into plain sight. Carrie put her paper down on the chair, and opened the front door. Richard was at the kitchen, making himself some coffee.
"Richard," Carrie said. He looked up at her. "It's the survivors. One of them's got through the sonic fence."
"What??" Richard immediately made his way out of the house, and easily spotted Mars crouching in the bushes. "Mars," he said, more to himself than to Carrie. He stepped down from the porch and started making his way over, but Carrie stopped him.
"Wait, what are you doing?" She asked.
"Ben wants her as one of us," Richard replied. "I need to get her in." He dodged behind the houses, making his way around to creep up behind Mars, who remained oblivious to his presence. Carrie watched and listened intently. She was sure she heard someone shout "look out" just as Richard crept up behind. Mars span around, but Richard immediately whipped out his gun and hit her on the back of the head. Carrie watched as Richard slung Mars over his shoulder. She winced as she heard distant gunshots, no doubt aimed at Richard. He jumped over the hedge and ran back towards Carrie.
"C'mon, we've gotta get her tied up before she wakes up," he said. Carrie followed him inside, as Richard carefully placed Mars on a chair. "Get some rope," he ordered her.
Carrie immediately went to a darkened cupboard, which was full of things which easily identified the house as belonging to the Others. Carrie quickly looked through piles of guns and jars of dangerous chemicals, before retreiving some rope from behind a tightly sealed jar of Sodium Fluoride (Carrie had no idea why they had some of that).
She shut the door, locked it to prevent any other survivors that might enter the Barracks from getting in, and tossed the rope to Richard, who caught it and immediately began expertly tying Mars to the chair she was on.
As Richard was tying Mars up, there came a knock on the door. "Don't answer it," Richard ordered. "It might be another survivor."
"Richard, if it was one of the survivors, they wouldn't knock, they'd just come barging in." Carrie spoke as she went over to answer the door. She wasn't surprised to see Ben.
"Hello, Carolyna," he said.
"Benjamin," Carrie returned the greeting curtly.
Ben looked over at Richard, who was standing up, having just finished tying Mars. "Thank you, Richard," he said, smiling. "Where did you find her?" As he spoke, Ben wheeled himself in, Carrie shutting the door behind him.
"Carrie saw her crouching in the bushes, just in the south-west corner," Richard replied.
Ben looked over at Carrie, who was standing against the wall. "Carolyna, would you come outside with me for a moment, please? I'd like to talk to you alone."
Reluctantly, Carrie opened the door and allowed Ben to wheel himself out. She looked at Richard, who smiled warmly at her, before she followed Ben out, shutting the door behind her.

Day 80 – Night
As soon as darkness descended, Jo poked her head out of the banyan tree. She hadn’t seen or heard anyone all day, and felt secure in making a run for the submarine. She only hoped it wasn’t under guard; she was pretty sure she wouldn’t be able to finagle her way out of that situation. So she ran towards the dock, and hoped for the best.
Thankfully, the dock was deserted. Jo sprinted the last hundred feet to the submarine and pulled open the hatch, struggling a bit with the weight of it. She peered down into the submarine; nothing was visible in the darkness. She climbed tentatively down the ladder and, upon reaching the bottom, reached into her backpack for the flashlight she had stowed before escaping from her house.
Jo illuminated the interior of the submarine and spotted a small cupboard behind a curtain in the kitchen which would serve as a reasonable hiding place. She made her way over and crouched below the lowest shelf, watching and waiting.
She dozed a little bit and was awakened by footsteps. Someone was climbing down the ladder. Suddenly panicked, she reacted by standing up too quickly and smashed her head on the shelf above her. A couple tin cans toppled over and fell to the floor with a loud crash. Jo bit her lip to stifle her screams of pain.
A familiar voice called from the darkness, followed by a flashlight beam. “Is someone there?” Overwhelmed with relief, Jo removed herself from her hiding place and ran towards the voice. She was so happy to see him that she wrapped herself around him in a fierce bear hug, completely forgetting for the moment that they had last parted in anger over Boone’s accidental death.
“John! Are you leaving with us? Is Jack with you?”
Locke shook his head and chuckled nervously. “No, I’m not leaving.”
Jo stepped backwards, confused. “Then what are you doing here?”
Locke positioned his flashlight on his backpack and began pulling items out of it. They looked like electronic devices of some sort. A feeling of dread began to grow in the pit of Jo’s stomach. She grabbed John’s wrists and forced him to look directly at her.
“What are you doing, John?”
Locke calmly pried Jo’s fingers from his wrists and continued to assemble the components from his backpack. “From the moment I set the switch on this, you’ll have exactly three minutes to climb out and get yourself as far away as possible.”
“And why would I want to do that, John?” Jo asked suspiciously, then her eyes widened as understanding began to dawn on her. John had placed enough C4 on the floor in front of him to blow the entire submarine to pieces.
“Tell me you’re not going to sabotage our escape,” she demanded.
Locke smiled ever so slightly at her as he continued his work.
“You can’t do this!” Jo yelled. She threw herself against him to knock him to the ground but he deflected her into the wall of the submarine instead. She yelped as pain shot up through her body upon making contact with the wall and landing roughly on the floor. Locke had temporarily knocked the wind out of her, but she refused to give up. She pulled herself together and knelt on the floor opposite Locke with the C4 lying between them.
“We’re leaving the island, and coming back for the survivors. If you destroy the sub we’ll never be able to save them! And Zoe will die! Do you want her death on your conscience?”
John flashed his creepy smile again and deliberately flicked the switch on the electronic device. Digital red numbers immediately began counting down.
“Three minutes,” he reminded her, then turned towards the submarine’s ladder. Jo pushed him out of the way and sprinted to the ladder before he could reach it. She was halfway up when she yelled down to him. “You’re a madman, John!”
She climbed out of the sub and ran down the dock. At the other end Jack, Juliet and Zoe were approaching, escorted by Tom and Ryan. Jo waved her hands wildly. “Stay back!” she yelled. “Stay where you are!”
Time seemed to move in slow motion, and it felt like an eternity before she reached Jack. “I tried to stop him,” she gasped, breathless, then doubled over in pain from being tossed into the wall by Locke.
She heard Locke’s footsteps close behind her and whirled around to face him. Tom and Ryan immediately moved in and forced Locke to kneel on the dock with their guns. Jo’s glare shot daggers at him as he spoke.
“I’m sorry, Jack.”
“Sorry for what?” Jack asked.
A moment later the force of the explosion sent waves of heat and debris towards the horrified group. Jack pulled Jo towards him and shielded her with his body. Once the shock subsided, they both returned their attention to Locke. Zoe had moved quickly and was now pummeling Locke with both hands, screaming at him until Jason pulled her away. Tom and Ryan grabbed Locke and shoved him back towards the shore. Zoe ran, sobbing, and disappeared into the night. Finally, only Jack, Juliet and Jo were left standing there, watching the burning remnants of their ride home in stunned silence.

René saw the flames from the top of the hill. She ran out of her house when she heard the explosion. "What is it? What happened?" Cindy came barreling out after her. "Get back to children, NOW" René barked back at her.
Eric was running down to her direction. "Here" and he tossed her a glock 9. "You know how to use?" René cut him off by clicking it in place and making sure it was fully loaded and looked over at him. "Yeah, I know." Both ran down to the pier to see a completely stunned Juliette, Jo and Jack. Zoe could be seen wandering away from the carnage in tears.
Tom and Ryan were getting Locke to his feet. "Make sure the rest of the area is secure." Tom directed to them. René spanned out to begin searching the bush.
René came upon Zoe out by a small enclave of beach not far from the dock. She was sobbing and obviously very shaken. René put her gun away and began to approach her. Zoe looked up and just glared at René. Her eyes turned from hatred, to disbelief to utter betrayal and disappointment in the moment it took René's heart to beat once.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" Zoe screamed with all her strength. René knew it wasn't her she was screaming at, she tried to say something to ease her.
"No, don't you DARE. Don't talk to me. Just don't. Just go away. Go AWAY!"
René looked at her with remorse and decided it was best to stay anyway. She walked a bit closer and sat down just a few feet away.
"I'm sorry Zoe" René was more reserved when she spoke, careful to tread lightly. She never made eye contact with her.
"I don't understand. WHY would he do that? Why would John blow up our chances of leaving?" Zoe said wiping the tears from her face.
"I'm not going to pretend that I know your reason for wanting to leave so much Zoe. I won't pretend to understand. Just please know I am sorry for the way you feel right now."
They sat in silence for a minute or so listening to the waves crash on the shore.
Once René knew Zoe was less hysterical she got up to leave. "I have to head back and meet up with Eric. Do you want to come back with me?" René held out her hand to help Zoe up.
Zoe shook her head. "No. I need to think. I can't be around people right now." She looked up at René for the first time. "Thanks though." René nodded and walked back through tall grass up towards the dock.
On the path she ran back into Eric. "Find anything?" he asked.
René shook her head, "No. Not a thing" she lied. She wasn't about to let anyone else disturb Zoe. She was a bit fearful Zoe might become violent at this stage and that would end well for no one. She had that "calm before the storm" look in her eye when she left her just now. As René thought about it, perhaps it wasn't best to leave her. But it was too late now. They continued their walk towards the barracks.
René saw Tom come out of Ben's house and hustled over to him. "Eric and I looked over both sides. We didn't see anything. Is Ben ok?" Tom gave her a quizzical look. "Of course he's ok René, don't be silly." He tapped her on her shoulder. "Get back to make sure Zack and Emma are all set. Then come back and report to me." René began to run towards her place. "Oh, and take this with ya!" He tossed René a walkie. She clipped it in her pants next to her gun.

Day 80
Zoe was unsure of what she was really doing as she got up and left the beach, delving into the dark pits of the jungle alone. She forgot in that moment about her GPS chip, but it didn't matter anyway, she didn't know where she was going, she just knew she needed to get away from that hell hole of the barracks.
As she walked deeper and deeper into the jungle, it was getting slightly lighter, and too her suprise she didn't recognise where she was in the jungle, and right on cue on it being too quiet for everything to seem ordinary, an odd surrounding atmosphere consumed the ambience just as a loud, thounderous and meanacing noise errupted through the jungle. Zoe recognised that sound, and panicked, her eyes darting all around for a suitable hiding place as trees nearby started to be ripped out their roots.
She ran, whippy branches, torns and nettled tearing at her skin as she ran through the thicket of the jungle, stumbling upon the grounds of an old ruin, she halted one of the derelict walls, she could her the smoke monster approaching faster and faster. She placed the palm of her right hand along the wall and ran along it, looking for a weak spot to break through as there was no-where else to hide, she didn't run long before the ground crumbled beneath her feet and she fell twenty feet underground, landing painfully on her back and left shoulder, she lay motionlessly, too shocked by the sudden fall to scream out, her head throbbing where it had hit rubble as she stared up at the hole in the ground above her she had fallen through, the sunlight shining brightly through onto her limp body, she could hear the smoke monster above, but being trapped in her self created captivity, the smoke monster failed to find any sign of destroyable and valuable life, and it rumbled back into the distance again, back to an awkward silence, and eventually the sounds of birds in the trees returned.
As the shock trailed away, the pain set in more promanently and she passed out into bleak darkness.

"René, you there? Pick up" the walkie sounded. She walked over to the bed and answered.
"I'm here Tom." she stood awaiting some sort of orders.
"Get back to the hall when you can. We need someone to watch Austen for us while we take care of some business."
"Sure, be there in less than five." René walked out of her room down the hall.
"Everything alright?" Cindy asked with great concern.
"No worries Cindy. We've got it under control. Tuck the kids back in. I have to go back out." She moved towards the door. "I'll be back soon." René double checked she had her gun. She had no idea if any other survivors had penetrated their camp and she was on edge because of it. As she got up to the building Tom was waiting outside.
René nodded her head at Tom. "Stay here. Make sure she doesn't pull anything."
"Tom," she began sarcastically, "Where's she's gonna go?"
Tom laughed at René and then got very serious, "That one" he said pointing towards the door, "will snap your neck if you get close enough. She's no pussycat."
René acknowledged and Tom went off in the direction of Ben's house.
She sat out side the door for about 20 minutes before Kate spoke. "Anyone out there? Hello?"
"What d'ya need?" René asked without opening the door. "Can a girl use the bathroom around here?" Kate pleasantly answered.
"Try the next guard, they might be more sympathetic." René knew better. With the little knowledge she had on some of the survivors, she at least knew not to fall for one of the oldest tricks in the book, René shook her head and thought to herself, does she really think I'm that stupid?
After another forty minutes or so Eric came up to relieve René. She recognized his figure coming before he was even in the light. He had a gate about him that was unique once you got to know him well. For a man in his early twenties, he seemed more mature than some other men in their group.
"René, they wanted me to let you go gather up your things. Make sure you wake Cindy and have her draw up a pack for her and children." He seemed out of breath and overly excited. "We're leaving in the morning."
René's brow frowned. "How many of us are going?"
He stifled, "EVERYONE"

Mars walked around the woods, trying to figure out what do to. Kate, Locke and Sayid are still discussing their plan on infiltrating the Others’ base. Once again Mars arrived at the outskirts of the Barracks. She moved slowly from one place to the other, hoping to find either Jack or the other survivors. As she moved from behind the bushes, Mars saw a person sitting on a chair on the front porch of a house. Driven by curiosity, Mars move closer - not realizing that she could be easily spotted. Mars immediately recognized the person as Carrie, and almost jumped out of her hiding spot and ran towards her. Mars could see Carrie staring back at her. ‘Damn’, Mars thought.
Mars moved back towards the shadows, breathing heavily, and tried her best to keep her body low. Deep down she knew it was pointless to hide. Mars could hear the snapping of a twig behind her. She turned around and saw Richard. Mars opened her mouth to speak, but Richard quickly drew his rifle and hit her in the head, knocking her unconscious.
------------------------------------------------------
“Man, you look horrible.” Mars’ friend, Martin, said.
“Thanks.” Mars smiled, an ice pack pressed against her forehead. She winced in pain. “What makes you want to come with us to London?” Martin asked, his hands on the steering wheel, a road map placed neatly on his lap. “I dunno. I need to find some money for my parents.” Mars sighed. “I want a better life.” “Oh, Mars.” Martin chuckled “There’s no point earning money for your parents if they’re gonna spend them anyway.”
Mars glared at Martin. “They’re my parents, Martin. No matter how horrendous they are.” Martin shrugged. “Anyway,” he said, “There’s this job vacancy as a junior paramedic in London.” He handed Mars a brochure from his pocket. “All you gotta do is attend 2 first aid classes, got tested, and boom! The job is yours – gift wrapped.”
Mars laughed. “I can never ever save people’s lives.” She threw the brochure to the back of the car. “Oh, come on! It’ll be great!” Martin smiled Mars paused. “I’ll think about it. Hey, where are we going now?” “Andrew’s house, of course. He’s coming with us, remember? Oh, and some of his friends are coming too, so… chill.” Martin turned the steering wheel to the left, making a sharp turn at an intersection. Mars sighed and turned on the radio.
I would like to leave this city This old town don't smell too pretty and I can feel the warning signs running around my mind And when I leave this island I'll book myself into a soul asylum And I can feel the warning signs running around my mind..
“Oh, gosh.” Martin sighed. “This bloody song again. They’ve played it for the whole week now.” “That’s fine, Martin. Hey, I’m going to sleep. It’s pretty late at night. Just wake me up when Andrew and gang’s here.” Mars closed her eyes, the soft sound of the radio playing in the background.
So here I go still scratching around the same old hole My body feels young but my mind is very old So what do you say? You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway You're half the world away…

Three of the Others were waiting at the end of the pier to take them back to the Barracks. Jack and Juliet protested when one of them slid a pair of handcuffs over Jo's wrists but she willingly accepted the cold metal restraints.
"It's okay Jack," she responded calmly. "There's nowhere else to go. I'll see you soon." She allowed herself to be shuffled off, back to the house arrest that awaited her.
They passed the swingset at the house next to her own, and Jo was startled to see Sayid handcuffed to the metal rods and slumped over in defeat. He was watched by a man with a shotgun. Sayid raised his eyes to meet hers and they shared a silent, somber greeting as Jo passed.
When they reached her home, she was tossed unceremoniously inside. The door locked behind her. Jo winced as she fell to the floor and landed on her injured side. She was now certain she had at least fractured her right arm, if not broken it.
The next thing she knew Chase was by her side. He cradled her and kissed her face as she clung to him, sobbing. "It's all over," she bawled. "Ben won. We're never leaving this island." He held her for the rest of the night, long after she had cried herself to sleep.
