Day 30
Jo watched from a distance as Hurley, Charlie and Zoe buried Ethan. Strangely, seeing Ethan's body didn't stir any memories, even though everybody told her he was the one who had kidnapped her, Zoe and Claire and nearly killed Charlie. She had heard the shots ring out when Charlie shot him, and was furious that she had been left out of the plan to ambush him. That was Jack's doing, no doubt, but she was also angry with Locke. She was tired of being treated so delicately since she had returned to the survivors' camp. If anybody needed coddling it was Claire, not her. Jo had keen survival instincts; she knew she could be useful to the group if they only allowed her. She was frustrated.
She glanced over towards the water supply and spotted Jack and Kate giggling and flirting shamelessly. Jack caught Jo's glance and gave her a piercing, meaningful stare and a barely perceivable shrug as if to say "I'm not waiting for you, take a look at what you're missing." He then returned his attention to Kate before they parted ways and Kate headed towards Sawyer's tent. It was really childish, Jo thought to herself, for him to try to make her jealous, but a sudden stab of regret told her that his desired reaction had been achieved.
Boone walked up to Jo and tapped her on the shoulder, startling her out of her reverie.
"What is it, Boone?" she asked.
"Locke has something he wants to show you. Pack for a hike; we'll be gone all day." He walked a few feet towards the camp, then turned around when he realized she hadn't moved. "Come on!" he motioned.
"Do you really expect me to take orders from you and Locke?" Jo asked in disbelief. "You expect me to follow you blindly into the jungle?"
Boone returned to her side and spoke in a gentler voice. "We've uncovered something amazing in the jungle, and Locke wants you to be a part of it. He feels like you, of all people, would be open to what it has to show us."
Jo felt her curiosity rising, and she followed Boone towards the camp to pick up her backpack. One last glance behind her revealed that Ethan was now completely buried; she hoped that this would be the beginning of more peaceful times for the 815 survivors.

"May i remind you what happened the last time you disobeyed me Benjamin!"
"You wouldn't!" Ben said with a tone of desperation in his voice.
"She's a distraction. Get rid of her."
"And if i don't?"
"Don't push me Benjamin! Now go. Be the leader your supposed to be."
Ben nodded, sadness in his eyes before stepping out of the old dirty cabin.

Jo followed Locke and Boone as they hiked through the jungle in a contemplative silence. They eventually came to a clearing. An enormous round metal object rose out of the earth before them. In the time that Jo had been captive in The Staff, Locke and Boone had cleared the earth around it so that more of the mysterious object was now revealed. Jo glanced at Locke questioningly, then walked up to the object and kneeled beside it. Her fingers brushed over a series of numbers etched into the metal.
“I know I’ve seen this before,” Jo whispered, more to herself than to anyone else. Fragments of memories rose up in her mind and then vanished just as suddenly. She turned towards Locke. “Why did you choose me, John? What can I offer you that the others can’t?”
Locke smiled warmly. “You made a name for yourself by solving medical mysteries in another life, and you believe in this island more than most of the others. Someone like Jack wouldn’t know what to do with this.”
“And what kind of mystery do you expect me to solve here?” Jo asked, although she already knew the answer.
“How to get inside,” he responded matter of factly.

Ben sighed to himself as he stepped into his house, seeing his daughter Alex bonding with Sophie. He smiled to himself as they chuckled to each other. Sophie noticed Ben come in and smiled, getting up from her seat she went over and pecked his cheek.
"Sorry hope you don't mind me here. Alex said it was ok to wait for you here."
"It's fine" he smiled. "Umm, care to take a walk with me?" he asked feeling awkward and cold against her warmth towards him.
"Sure. Let me just go grab a jumper from home." she turned to face Alex, "It was nice finally meeting you". Sophie left the house heading to hers. Alex glared at Ben before heading off in her room.
As soon as Alex closed her bedroom door Ben went to his desk, opening a draw he pulled out a gun, checking it to see if it was loaded, before slipping it into his bag. Inhaling a big breath, he stood there for a moment. Before leaving to meet with Sophie.

[not really sure what day it is anymore! ]Working on the hatch provided a welcome distraction from the constant drama which surrounded the survivors, and especially from the tension between Jo and Jack that seemed to grow thicker by the day. Boone and Locke were comfortable companions. Locke was a man of few words, but she understood his sense of purpose and was drawn to him for that reason. She quickly forged a deep friendship with Boone, and they often chatted casually while taking a break from laboring on the hatch. Boone passed her a water bottle on one of their breaks. She accepted it gratefully. “Can I ask you a question?” he spoke up. Jo nodded as she took a long drink. “What’s going on with you and Jack?” Jo paused before answering. “I don’t really know,” she admitted. She and Jack had little interaction these days. He watched her go off on her frequent hikes with Locke and Boone, but never asked a single question of her. Instead, he spent most of his days with Kate, much to Jo’s irritation. She sighed, then continued. “I know Jack and I have a long history, but my memory is still very hazy. The best thing I can do for myself right now is take the time to be apart from him.” “This is so much more than that,” Boone replied. “Locke feels this” - Boone motioned toward the hatch - “is your purpose.” “And what about you, Boone?” Jo asked. “Do you think for yourself, or do you always follow Locke?” Boone laughed. “If I always followed Locke, I wouldn’t be taking a break right now, and I definitely wouldn’t do this.” Boone leaned forward and kissed Jo on the lips. She responded to his kiss, much to her surprise, but in the next instant she felt a sharp pain in her side that made her drop her water bottle and pull away from Boone abruptly. “What’s wrong?” Boone searched her face worriedly. “My guess is the island is warning her not to be distracted.” Locke’s disapproving voice thundered from where he stood on the top of the hatch above them. “I need Jack,” Jo gasped. “Quickly.” Boone threw his arm around Jo and Locke scrambled to her other side. Together, they hobbled towards the caves. ******************* “It’s a kidney infection, isn’t it?” Jo asked Jack as she reclined on his makeshift gurney. Boone hovered nearby, but Locke had already returned to the site of the hatch to continue his work. “I think so,” Jack replied. “You’re going to be okay, we’ve got plenty of antibiotics. But I want you to stay here where I can keep an eye on you. No more wandering in the jungle.” He shot a piercing stare at Boone to make sure he was understood. Boone nodded his acceptance. “I’m not going anywhere,” she promised Jack, then turned her head to face Boone and mouthed the words, “I’m sorry.” Boone shrugged before walking away from the caves.

don't worry about the days jo Ben glanced over to Richard and gave him a nod as he and Sophie walked out of the village. As if it was a signal. Richard responded a knew what he had to do. "Sophie i have a boring dinner meeting tonight. Would you spare your evening. I would really love your company." he asked sitting on her desk giving her a look to say she must go.
"Oh Mr Widmore....I.. I had plans tonight"
"Oh?" he asked. "You could always cancel..." he smirked. "I promise it wouldn't be long. I just dread sitting with him. Him droning on about his business. As soon as it over my driver will drop you off at your friends." he paused. "Please...." he asked nicely. "How about overtime?"
"Oh sir you don't have to do that. I'll come. But i'd have to go home and get dressed."
"You don't need too." He headed to his office and pulled out a gown for her to wear. She chuckled before replying.
"You'd knew i'd say yes.""You seem quiet?" Sophie questioned Ben as they walked through a junglely green field. "Everything ok?" Ben turned around looking behind them. As if he had spotted something. "What is it?" she asked. "Nothing...." he replied and started to walk again. "Where you taking me?" she asked "We've been walking a while. It will get dark soon." Ben stopped again then pulled close to him into an embrace, Sophie smiled so sweetly as she held him but things changed Ben felt cold against her warmth. She looked up to him to see saddness in his eyes. "Ben whats wrong?" she asked as she carressed his skin. "I can't do this..." "Do what?" she asked "Us. This is not suppose to happen. Your not suppose to be here." Sophie pulled away from him. "Your doing it again aren't you?" she said teary eyed. "Why are you so afraid in falling in love?" "Whats this?" Sophie questioned Charles as they pulled up outside some old warehouse. "Funny looking restaurant" she commented. The driver opened the door to let Charles out and then he walked over to let Sophie out. Her heart was pacing. She knew something weren't right. She felt that eerie feeling her stomach doing somersaults. Then his hand came into the car. She accepted and then followed him into the warehouse.
The lights were bright at first as he switched them on inside. She noticed two gunmen standing beside him as if they were his secruity. Now she knew it. He had found out!.
"Ben!" He shouted looking around the warehouse "Come out. I have something that belongs to you." He smirked. Sophie started to move away but he grabbed her arm forcefully then she felt the probing of a gun behind her back. "I wouldn't do that." He started to call out again looking around to see if he could see Ben anywhere in the dark shadows. "Well techincally she was mine. But you stole her from me. Just like the island. Now i'm going to put a bullet in her...."
"Kill her. She means nothing to me!" Ben interupted coming out one of the dark shadows. Sophies heart shattered to pieces, that can't be true he loves her! Charles started to chuckle as he saw the saddness the heartbroken look in sophies eyes.
"Oh Sophie. You really thought he had feelings for you? If only i knew you were so easy to manipulate, i could of had you myself." he said it looking towards ben to see if there would be a response. But nothing just blankness not even a flinch. Charles pushed her to the floor and clicked his fingers to call the henchman over.
They started to beat Sophie, kicking her, punching her. She screamed in pain. Calling out to Ben to make them stop.
"Now tell me where the island is Ben!"
"Never!" He glanced over at Sophie. Blood all over brusies, crying in pain. "Is that all you got for me Charles?" he asked. Charles not replying. "Then i guess this meeting is over!" he ordered. Charles stopped his henchmen.
"I will find the island again Ben."
"Good luck" Ben smirked, and watched as Charles stormed off. Ben looked at her blankly. Then whipping out his gun he shot her in the chest. Sophie frozed looking at Ben seeing his eyes were sorry, as if this wasn't what he wanted. She collapsed on the floor. As Ben stood over her. Richard came up from behind. "Do you want me to move her?" he asked. "No..... leave her here." he said. Richard nodded he could sense Bens saddness. "Goodbye Sophie" he said before turing on his heel and walking away.

(Sorry, I've been meaning to contribute for ages. Although probs not best to write this while drunk)
It had been a fair while now since the Ethan ordeal, and being captured by the Others, yet Zoe still didn't seem to be past it yet, unlike Claire, Charlie and Jo, who all seeme to have been able to block it out of their minds. Zoe had begun even more so to isolate herself, meaning Claire was getting closer to Charlie then she would have liked, although deep down she knew she could do nothing about it. She had even remained in silence still. Anyone who had tried to talk to her, she either ignored or simply didn't reply.
Zoe was now at the caves. She hadn't eaten for days, and had drank very little. Unaware to her, people had begun to notice this problem, and knew that if she didn't eat soon, she would get very ill, especially with little water. But since the memory loss, she didn't see the point. Two weeks of her life was missing, and no matter what she did, she couldn't conjur up the memory.
Zoe sat in her corner of the cave, she was layed down on her make shift bed, wide awake, watching the world around her, but nothing was sinking in. It was all a blur, she was simply staring ahead of her, unable to sleep, with nothing but a large and painful wound on her head as a suvounier to what had caused her memory loss. The campfire was reflected in her pupils, burning into her mind, with a vacant expression, too drained too make the effort with the slighest thing taken for granted, such as sitting up, of shifting yourself once you were uncomfortable after lying in the same exact spot after twenty mintues or so.

Confined to the caves, Jo felt antsy and wanted to get back to the hatch. But she had promised Jack she would stay until she was well again, and she intended to keep her promise.
She sat up in the middle of the night and gasped loudly from the sharp pain in her side. Jack was at her side in an instant, and handed her some of Sun's painkilling herbs.
"Thanks," Jo croaked in response and managed to smile at him through her pain. Working on the hatch had given her the time and space to focus on her memories, and while she still didn't remember details about her experiences she did feel the beginning of a strong affection for Jack returning.
Jack sat silently by her side for a moment, then spoke up. "Can I ask you something?"
Jo nodded as she inhaled deeply. The pain was slowly subsiding.
"You and Boone...are you...?" Jack couldn't finish the question; he simply looked at Jo for an answer.
She shook her head as vigorously as her weakened state would allow. "No, Jack. We're not together."
"It just seems like every time he comes to the caves, he heads straight for you. And the way you whisper together, it's like you're sharing some intimate secret...it just seems like you're together."
Jo thought of the brief kiss she and Boone had shared, then promptly pushed the thought out of her mind. He was attractive, no doubt, and they certainly had chemistry, but her feelings for Boone didn't run any deeper than close friendship. Or did they? she wondered. "Maybe Boone thinks otherwise, but no. We're friends. We're definitely not 'together," she assured him.
Relief flooded Jack's features. "I'm glad to hear that," he whispered, then squeezed her hand.
"One more thing," Jo reached for him before he walked away. "Zoe is still unresponsive, and I'm worried about her. I don't quite have my act together enough to examine her. Do you think you could...?"
"I'll take a look at her in the morning." Jack promised. "Now get some sleep."

Zoe was lying on the ground, unable to move, she could sense she was panicing, and could hear Jo's voice off in the distance somewhere. She heard footsteps approaching towards her promptly, and suddenly there was Ethan, bearing down on her with a malvolent triumphant look. She tried to scream but couldn't, whilst Ethan simply laught harshly at her.
Then Zoe woke up, in a cold sweat back at the caves. Safe, well away from Ethan, despite being dead anyway, as she quickly remembered. Her heart was beating faster then a rabbits, and she was shaking all over, her breathing rapid and shallow. Her first nightmare, and the worse yet.
It was morning by what she could tell. The was the odd sun ray pushing its way through the jungle's leaves and branches onto the jungle floor, lighting up the caves and the small pool of fresh water.
It was either by coinsidence, or her abrupt awokeness seemed to have attracted his attention when Jack came over by her side, and started to talk to her.
"Hey Zoe. How are you doing?" He asked softly. "You ok?"
Zoe was still slightly shaken by her nightmare, but managed to brush the skin crawling thought away, and faced Jack. She didn't bother to say anything, her facial experssions seemed to do the job anyway. She was white as a sheet, and Jack could quite easily tell something had recently frightened her.
"Hey...what's wrong?" He continued, frowning slightly. He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, trying to convince her to talk, but she flinched at his touch, and pushed his hand away. It was an instinctive reaction, and couldn't explain why she was acting so on edge. Just the thought of him, and strangely, just any man in general, touching her, was just unbearable.
Zoe stood up and began to walk away, but Jack wasn't prepared to give up on her yet.
"Zoe, wait." He called after her, as he caught up. Zoe stood still but didn't want to turn around, so just stood still in one spot, staring out into the jungle. Jack drew up to her level, and stood beside her. "Zoe, come on. I am getting greatly concerned for you. You haven't been eating properly, drinking little, and seem to be having very little sleep. I know you've been through a terrible ordeal, but you should know you can talk to us about it. I can help you if you let me. But if you just mope about feeling sorry for yourself, then there isn't much I can do."
Zoe turned to face him, and slapped him clean across the face, both in disbelief and rage. How could he be so blunt and out of order? She shook her head at him angrily and stormed off through the jungle, leaving Jackrubbing his stinging cheek. It was only then he reaslied he had been a little out of line, he had never had good bed side manners afterall. All he could diagonse of the situation was post-tramatic stress, which could become seriously worse and lead onto sevre depression if she didn't allow herself to get any better soon.
Zoe weaved her way through the jungle and on toward the beach. When she arrived, she welcomed the fact she stepped onto the quieter side of the beach camp. There was only Jin off in the near distance fishing. She knew he wouldn't bother disturbing her. Zoe sat down on the outskirts of the jungle, upon the warm soft beach sand, staring out into the ocean.

“She slappedyou?” Jo exclaimed, incredulous. Jack nodded. His cheek still smarted from Zoe’s angry outburst.
Jo couldn’t stifle the giggles that erupted. “Still having problems with the bedside manner, hrmm?” she smirked. “I think Zoe will be all right, Jack. Let her deal with this in her own way; we can only be here for her if she needs us.”
***************************
Jo regained her strength enough to begin wandering, tentatively, around the cave, and Jack continued to keep a close watch on her. Their relationship was now growing more relaxed and openly affectionate; she was grateful to feel the icy tension between them slowly begin to thaw. They weren’t in the same place they had been when they crashed on the island, but they were getting closer. Kate clearly wasn’t thrilled by this development. She still wanted Jack; Jo could tell from her frequent gazes in his direction. Still, Kate kept her distance and, outwardly at least, respected Jo’s long history with Jack.
Jo was filling up her water bottle when Boone appeared by her side. He was out of breath from running. Jo flashed a wide grin at him. He hadn’t visited the caves in several days, and she missed him. She missed the sense of comfortable companionship that she enjoyed with Locke and Boone while they cleared the area around the hatch and brainstormed ways to get in. Jo could tell from Boone’s expression that things were going well with their secret project.
“We’re going to get in!” he whispered excitedly, his head so close to hers she could feel his breath on her face. “We’re building a trebuchet, and we’re going to break the glass!”
“That’s brilliant, Boone.” Jo whispered back. Her eyes darted to Jack on the opposite side of the waterfall. He was watching their interaction intently. “I’ll be able to join you and Locke again soon – the antibiotics are working, and I’m getting my strength back.”
“I’ve missed you,” Boone said softly, pushing a stray hair behind her ears.
Jo blushed hotly. “Me too,” she mumbled, then looked away. She didn’t know what else to say.

Zoe sat on her bed, hugging her knees, waiting in the darkness. Where was she? Why was she here? Why was this happening to her? Her thought however were interrupted as someone opened the door slyly. Zoe was rapt to attention immediately, as she noticed a young, dark curly haired girl enter her room. Slightly alarmed, but keeping her cool, Zoe spoke to her.
"Are you Alex?" She asked calmly. The girl nodded.
"He told you the plan?" She asked quietly.
"Little bit and bobs, yeah." Zoe replied cooly. "Who is he?"
"It's probably best if we keep you knowing who are are to a minimum." Alex answered her. "Come on, we don't have much time." Alex opened the door wide, and light flooded into the room. Zoe remained poised on the bed, staring at Alex curiously. "Look, do you wanna be sticking round here?"
"No." Zoe replied abruptly.
Zoe woke up, a little startled, but nothing compared to before. She had passed out on the beach, dehyfrated. She was slowly begining to notice how dry her throat felt, and all the symptoms she could read herself - passing out, dehydration, the sun and the heat. She had passed out from a heat stroke.
She got up, and walked towards the beach camp, from where she had been sitting on just the outskirts of it, trying to remain keeping a distance from them all. She walked over to the water supply and filled herself a cup, half watching the camp around her. She could see Jack in the distance talking to Kate, and across on the other side of the beach, where Michael was rebuilding the raft since the first one was burnt down, Michael was trying to explain something to Jin, but clearly getting no-where.
Zoe took a sip from her cup and slowly stalked away across camp to resume her position where she was sat before, collecting her thoughts together, trying to decifer why she had been having these strange dreams, and what they meant.

Jo woke up slowly and was thrilled to find that she finally felt like herself again. The antibiotics, and Jack's constant attention, had done their work.
A vague memory of her dream lingered. Dr. Chase had been on the island with them. He wore a doctor's lab coat with a strange symbol on it, and he pulled a syringe filled with golden liquid out of his medical bag and walked towards her with it. But Jo didn't feel scared in the dream; she felt safe and protected in Chase's presence. The dream felt so real to her that she was a little surprised to wake up in the caves.
Jo shook the dream away, and smiled wistfully to herself. She hadn't thought about her former fiance in a long time. She wondered if he ever thought about her, and what they might have had together if she had not chosen to accompany Jack to Australia. She wondered if the new job he took to escape Los Angeles was making him happy.
Later that day, she felt herself drawn back to the hatch. In the days that Jo had been confined to the caves under Jack's care, Locke and Boone had revealed as much of the hatch as they could. The remains of their crude trebuchet lay scattered all over the hatch. Boone sat on a log and stared aimlessly at the wreckage; Locke was nowhere to be found.
"Hey," Jo said as she sat beside Boone. "What happened?"
"We failed. We're not getting in, that's the end of it." He replied as he continued to stare straight ahead instead of meeting her eyes.
"Where is Locke?"
Boone shrugged. "He hurt his leg. He might have gone to find you or Jack."
Jo placed her hand on Boone's knee. "Maybe we should tell the others about the hatch. They might have ideas..."
"No." Boone swiftly cut her off, and finally turned to face her. "The island doesn't want us to get inside. It's over."
"Then let's go back to the camp," Jo suggested in a low, gentle voice. Boone looked so despondent that she just wanted to hold him and soothe him. They sat in silence for a few moments, mulling over the situation. Finally, Boone spoke up.
"Okay, let's go." he agreed.
**************************
Boone and Jo trudged wearily through the jungle together. Neither had much to say; both were disappointed by the hatch situation. Suddenly, what sounded like a thunderous wild animal call caught their attention, and they looked around in horror. Something was rushing towards them; it parted the trees ahead of them with inhuman strength and speed.
Panicked, Boone grabbed Jo's hand and pulled her roughly in the opposite direction. They ran as fast as they could, but the presence was moving fast and would catch up to them in moments. They came to a sturdy-looking banyan tree with enough space for them both inside. Boone pushed Jo into it before him. They crouched inside, holding each other tightly and watching in wide-eyed terror as a cloud of thick black smoke circled the tree. It couldn't touch them, and finally dissipated. Suddenly, they were surrounded by deathly quiet.
Boone and Jo didn't move for another half hour, afraid to leave the safety of the tree. Finally, tentatively, they stood up to stretch their cramped legs but were still reluctant to step outside. Jo looked up at Boone, her eyes questioning him, unsure what to do next. Boone answered her question without saying a word. He leaned in to kiss her on the lips with long restrained ardor. Jo responded with equal ardor. Their fear transformed into sudden passion, and they postponed their departure from their safe spot by consummating the feelings they had unexpectedly developed for each other.
******************
"Boone, please...don't say a word to Jack. If he asks, I'll tell him, but I don't want to go there right now. It would just...complicate things."
"I won't breathe a word," Boone agreed. They hiked back to the camp with renewed energy, bonding over their lovely new secret.

Zoe was sat in the same spot when Hurley came over to her and sat beside her, not saying a word, just sitting beside her for a few minutes. It was only after twenty minutes of sitting her, he finally spoke.
"So, you wanna talk about it?" He asked.
"Not really." Zoe replied tonelessly.
"Why not? You can talk to me you know, I won't say anything to anyone if thats what you want." Hurley persisted.
"What would be the point in talking about it? Not as if anyone can do anything about it, is there?" Zoe replied frustratedly.
"Is this about Charlie?" Hurley probed.
Oh for goodness sakes, not everything is about him" Zoe replied loudly.
"How about a little bit?" Hurley asked. Zoe didn't answer. "You like him, don't you?" Again, Zoe didn't answer. She picked up a stick and and started to draw in the sand.
"Can you really not remember any of it? Of what happened?" Hurley asked. Zoe shook her head.
"All I remember is Claire going missing, and that I went after her." Zoe replied, shuddering at the thought of what her missing memories contained, especially as it invloved Ethan. Then there were those dreams. Were they flashes? Was she starting to remember? Or were they really just dreams. Nightmares of the trauma of not knowing what happened. She didn't know, and really didn't want to find out anytime soon.
"I know they talk about me. The camp. Me, Claire, Charlie and Jo. Scared to approach me. Jack only does because he is an interfering fool." Zoe spoke suddenly. "And I know you only do because you have the biggest heart compared to anyone in this island. You care about everybody. But really, for me, there is no one to truely care about me. Everyone has their friends, or their boyfriends and husbands. Me. I've got no-one."
"That's not true. I've seen you with Charlie, Claire, Jo and Kate. Me too of course. You have your friends. You just need to stop feeling sorry for yourself and then we can all be there for you. But until then, there's nothing much more that we can do." Hurley retorted, seeming a little put off. He stood up and started to walk away. She watched him leave, feeling a little guilty about what she had said.
"Hurley..." She called quietly, but he ignored her and carried on back towards camp.

Day 41
Locke approached Boone with his new mission, and Boone promptly informed Jo. Locke’s dreams were telling him to find an airplane deep in the jungle. Boone and Joanna followed him through the jungle, intrigued by the possibility and grateful to have a new purpose after their failure to break open the hatch.
******
All three of them looked up at the same moment and spotted the Beechcraft perched precariously on a cliff.
“How long do you think it’s been there?” Boone asked incredulously.
Locke shrugged. “Doesn't matter. What's important is that we found it. What's important is what's inside it.”
“What is inside of it, John?”
“You're going to have to climb up there for us and find out,” Locke replied.
Jo immediately grabbed Boone’s arm and squeezed tightly. Boone winced as her nails dug into her skin. “Absolutely not,” she declared authoritatively. “Don’t listen to him, Boone. It’s not safe.”
“He has to do it!” Locke demanded. “The island is telling us!”
“No!” Jo refused to waver. She released Boone’s arm and jabbed her pointed finger at John’s chest. “The plane will fall the moment Boone steps inside. You can’t send him up there, John. If anything happens to him it’s on your conscience.”
“It looks like he’s chosen for himself,” John responded smugly. Jo whirled around and was horrified to see Boone scrambling up the cliff towards the aircraft.
“I can’t watch this,” she declared. “You’ve gone too far; you’re on your own now.” She began to walk away from Locke. She looked back often and had nearly lost sight of Locke when she heard him scream at Boone to get out. She feared the worst, and ran as fast as her legs could carry her back to the site of the plane. She screamed when she saw that the plane now lay upside down at the foot of the tree in which it had been tangled. Locke pulled Boone, bloodied and unconscious, out of the plane and swung him over his shoulder.
******
Jo ran ahead of Locke into the caves and spotted Jack. She ran up to him, breathless from running. “It’s Boone, he needs our help.” Locke appeared at that moment with Boone.
“Put him down here,” Jack motioned towards his makeshift hospital bed. “Tell me what happened.”
Jo opened her mouth to tell him but Locke spoke up first.
“There was an accident. Boone fell off a cliff out near the place we were hunting.”
Jack ripped open Boone’s shirt to reveal an enormous wound bleeding profusely.
“John, tell me exactly what happened.” He glanced around wildly, but Locke had disappeared. “John?”
“He found a plane, Jack.” Jo spoke quietly. “It fell from a cliff with Boone inside it.”
Jack didn’t hear her. He worked feverishly at staunching the flow of blood and barked orders while Joanna stood frozen in shock, unable to move. She stared numbly at Boone. She knew he wasn’t going to survive, no matter what she or Jack did to save him. It seemed hopeless.
But it wasn't in Jack's nature to give in to failure. He barked orders. “Jo, wash your hands. Boone needs you! Kate, I need alcohol from Sawyer’s stash. Sun, I need you to help Jo and I.”
Jack's commanding voice snapped Jo out of her daze and she dashed towards the waterfall to wash her hands in preparation for treating Boone’s wounds. Still, feelings of doubt nagged at her. “Jack, we can’t…” she couldn’t finish her sentence.
Jack shook his head fiercely. “We will save him,” he declared defiantly. Jo recognized that look in his eyes as a flood of memories suddenly overwhelmed her. It was the look he always got when defeat would not be tolerated, no matter what the cost might be. Jo shivered. This was not going to end well.

(I ended up covering actual events of the timeline so this is kinda long, sorry!)
Day 41
Claire stepped through the thick foliage of the jungle. Vines and roots crossed the ground everywhere, but some semblance of a pathway emerged between fences of low hanging branches and wide-leafed plants that Claire couldn't name. Her back ached a little and she held her very pregnant belly cupped in her hands. Claire slowed when she arrived at a small clearing between the tall trees, and leaned against a trunk.
"I swear, this baby is going to be fully grown when it comes. How can you be so big?" Claire inquired of her stomach. A reply came in the snapping of twigs in the brush nearby. Claire lifted her head up and looked around, "Hello? Charlie, Zoe, is that you?"
The snapping turned to rustling, and Claire could see the thick growth of leaves ahead moving as something traveled steadily towards her. Claire hoisted herself away from the tree awkwardly. "This isn't funny! Who are you?" Claire backed up, heart pounding while the thing grew nearer and moved faster. She could feel a lump in her throat rising, and Ethan's face flashed in her mind. 'Maybe the Others found out we killed him... or what if it's the monster?'
"Who are you?!" She screamed. The rustling stopped. Claire watched silently with wide eyes, waiting for an answer. Suddenly a pain in her abdomen weakened her knees and she fell against the tree once again, crying out in surprise. When she looked up she gasped. A girl stood in front of her. She couldn't tell how old the girl was, but she was covered in mud and her clothes were ripped. She stared at Claire, her expression frighteningly blank.
"Oh my god," Claire erected herself and stepped back, just as another jab in her stomach caused her to lose her balance. The girl reached out and grabbed Claire's arms, steading her.
"Don't touch me get away from me!" Claire yelled, jerking from her assailant.
"I am sorry," the girl let go and stepped back. She had an accent Claire didn't recognize, "you are with baby. You need help." The girl continued, concern in her voice.
"Stay away from me, you're one of them!" Claire declared, walking away backwards, her arms outstretched as if the girl was holding a gun on her.
The girl pulled her head back, "who?" she inquired.
"Hey!" A voice shouted. Claire and the girl turned to look as Kate dashed into the clearing. A bottle cracked across the girl's temple and she collapsed on the jungle floor.
Kate looked down at her. Confident the mangy heap was unconscious, she turned to Claire.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"Yes, I'm fi-" Claire gasped and held her stomach. Kate ran to her and held her up.
"No you aren't," Kate tried to walk Claire away, but Claire hunched over and refused to move.
"Ow, it hurts," Claire grimaced. Kate looked at her belly and her mouth fell open.
"I- I think you're going into labor. I have to get someone-"
"You're not going to leave me here with her are you? She's an Other! She was going to hurt me Kate!" Claire shouted.
"No I won't leave you," Kate held onto Claire and began yelling at the top her lungs for help. To their relief, Jin was nearby and came bounding over from the beach. He was alarmed when he noticed the two women through the trees, and then even more so at the sight of a third unknown person bleeding and unconscious next to them.
"Weh-geuh-reh?" Jin asked as he stopped in front of them.
"Jin, thank god! Claire is going into labor. Get Jack or Jo, tell them there's an Other here," Kate spoke quickly while Claire lowered herself to the ground.
"Jack, Jo," Jin nodded, and shifted his weight while looking down at the knocked out girl. He spoke something Kate didn't understand and pointed at the body.
"I can handle it, just go!" Kate gestured towards the caves, "Hurry!"
Jin hesitated a moment and then ran in the direction of her gesturing. Claire looked up at Kate in astonishment.
"You can handle it? What if there are more? What if they're coming for my baby? Aahh..." Claire squeezed her eyes shut.
Kate pulled a dead log over for Claire to sit against, "I don't think there are any more, otherwise they would be here by now. The faster help gets here the better. If she wakes up, I don't know I guess I'll knock her out again."
"Sounds like a great plan," Claire rolled her eyes, "I'm sure this is just another false alarm, I'll be fine soon." Claire smiled and let out her breath.
Kate kneeled next to the Other and pushed her onto her back. Her clothes were sullied rags, no pockets or anything on her. Her long black hair was beginning to knot and her olive skin was covered in dirt. Even though she was as small as a child her face was adult, and she was breathing evenly. She wasn't sure how long she would stay out. The gash in her temple already stopped bleeding. Kate sat back with Claire and sighed.
Claire was perspiring, but she felt a lot calmer because the pain in her stomach was subsiding. Soon, she was sure she would be fine again and they'd be able to leave. That or help would come. All they had to do was wait and hope the Other didn't wake up first.
