Kristen on E! sez someone's dying and leaving the show at the end of Season 5. Sez he/she is a much-loved character. Better not be Ben. I tweeted that, but then I thought, prolly not, because although folks love the actor, the character is pretty much reviled. And Darlton love Emerson. I've heard they even write lines and angle for him to give 'em the "eyes treatment." So after my initial fear passed, I'm thinking he's safe. But I have a second worry that it might be Sawyer. Anyone else I'm wouldn't mind in varying degrees. Except for Kate, I'd pay money to see her go, but I guess she's not it, being the lead female character and all. Anyway, the bets are going down in Dark UFO and you can check your hunches with other rabid Lostoholics.

Oh Noooooo!! Do we know it's defo not Michael? I can't cope I seriously hope it's not him, or I'll be massively depressed- I'm still recovering from the news that David Tennant is leaving Dr. Who!!! They say it's definitely not Kate - damn. So instead they get rid of a "much loved character". Well Ben fits that bill...aaaargh! Oh I'm getting far too panicked - someone please re-assure me

I don't think it's Ben, he is not much loved. It could be Locke...or Hurley.

But Locke and Hurley are not on the list! Ben's story is almost coming to an end as well - heard that there will be an arc of 4 episodes full of Ben's childhood! Daniel is dearly loved as well.. I'll be glad if Sawyer's killed. I'm not that fond of him...

I've actually heard that it is Kate who will be going. If it happens I think this board might throw a little party. lol

I don't think it is her, unless is some huge misdirection by TPTB. I was kinda surprised to see the comments on the other board that weren't all that flattering to K. Anyway if she does go, I'll come to the party. I'll bring the chips n dip.

I say its Juliet- after all, she intruded on the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle not once, but twice. For such a crime, she will probably have to die so that Sawyer can go back to pining over Kate one last time for all of Season 6, and so the triangle can come to an end without any more interference.
EDIT: Oops, I wrote that before I saw Dark UFO take Juliet out of their poll.
Sawyer's death would bring an unholy plague upon Darlon from the shippers. They already tried and failed to kill Jin, so 'killing' him again would probably do no good. Miles isn't extremely major, not yet anyway. Daniel wasn't seen in 1977 and he's going madder than usual....so kill him. Besides, we still have Eloise Hawking to fill in any unanswered questions from his backstory.

"he/she is a much-loved character" I don't think it's Ben. Is he really a much-loved character? (of course besides the ppl on this board).

I believe he is much-loved outside of here, by critics and fans- or at least loved enough that people are "delighted to be afraid of him" as Michael would say. Out of these candidates, Sawyer is probably the other closest candidate in the "much-loved" pile. Jin and Daniel are liked, but I don't know if they're loved. Besides, you can't cry wolf twice with Jin and death and get away with it. But I don't think Darlton has the guts to kill off the triangle altogether with one full season left to go- though it would be incredibly brave and gutsy if they did it. Remember, JJ and Damon wanted to kill Jack in the pilot- maybe some of that moxie is needed here. Granted, Sawyer is probably the best character in the triangle- but better him than Ben. I have a feeling we're gonna be peeking at Dark UFO and get spoiled completely for the season finale, just to see if Ben makes it - like me and Edith did for TTLG and lived to regret.

Remember, even if it is Ben who dies, we may still see him in flash backs etc

Unfortunately, somebody blasted this spoiler on Twitter. So I now know about it. Here's my take on it. I think that it may be Desmond. Maybe we will find out that Ben killed him and his family. Or even Sun. Sun did not enter the past when she arrived on the island. Hence, her presence is no longer needed. If we do away with Sawyer and anyone else who is currently in the past, we alter the future and that person will not be alive in 2004 during the original crash. Unfortunately, Ben is in the future as well. So that becomes a problem. How beloved is Ben? Well, he does keep the audience glued to the TV and is continuously nominated for any award possible. So, TPTB need him.
How about Locke? He is in the present as well. And, I always said that he'd morph into Jacob. Maybe he needs to be killed in order to become the new character Jacob. This would be brilliant on the producers part. It would make the audience under pins and needles trying to find out who is killed off. Then the powers to be deliver a major death without getting the audience mad, because the actor is still delivering lines as another character.
Unfortunately, we will all be disappointed because our theories are so much better than theirs.

I don't think it would alter the future by killing someone who's in 1977. For instance, if Sawyer was killed in 1977 on the island as an adult, that doesn't kill the Sawyer that's still living as a kid on the mainland in 1977. That young Sawyer will still grow up to be a con man, go on the island, and travel back in time to 1977 to get killed. At least, that's how I think it works.
