Ben with his shirt off and wearing a white t shirt COR i'm gonna watch that scene again and again HOW GORGEOUS DID HE LOOK!!!! LOL! my tongue was hanging out. Wow loved Ben as a history teacher... hated history when I was at school but if I had him as my teacher i'd stay after school Coffee line made me laugh It's so nice we're getting some info on 'The Numbers' at last. I voted this a 10 GREAT!!!! Was that child that Smocke and even Sawyer noticed a young Jacob maybe???

Voted 9; It was great episode! Helen and Locke are so cute together! I missed her. I think she's the best thing that could happen to John. And of course Ben was so cute as a teacher! I loved history at school. Cannot wait to see more scenes with Ben as a teacher *naughty thoughts*

Was that child that Smocke and even Sawyer noticed a young Jacob maybe??? I think so, it looked just like him - if it isn't meant to be young Jacob I will be very surprised.

And just when we started to accept that most of the dead ghost sightings on Lost were products of the monster. It certainly makes it ironic that he can see his own ghosts, though.
Most theories settle on that kid being young Jacob, though of course, some think that it might also be Aaron, given the blond hair and mysterious power. The show will have to remember him in island time at some point, after all- among other forgotten characters.

My money's still on him being a young Jacob it did look like him and i've always been impressed with the producers matching different actors to play characters at different ages they look so alike it's uncanny I always have a look at the credits to see if they are actually related. I also keep thinking about Charles Widmore there's gotta be more to him than meets the eye

Other than Kate, there are a couple of other names missing on Jacob's wall. No one's found the name 'Alpert' on there, so not only was Richard totally kept in the dark - or so he said - he wasn't even considered as a candidate, despite being around for so long. What's more, I didn't see Widmore or Eloise Hawking's names listed either, despite being former leaders of the Others. Maybe that's a clue that they're on the monster's side- it's certainly likely that Widmore is. After all, it's funny how he ordered Ben to kill Alex and Rousseau, soon after the monster failed to do it when he 'claimed' the French team. But otherwise, why are most of the Others leaders- the leaders of Jacob's people - seemingly not considered as candidates? They seemed so important in the big picture, but if they weren't in the running to take over, then what was their purpose to Jacob?

We no longer need spoiler tags.
Here's my crackpot theory:
I don't think the cave shows the name that Jacob had for his candidate. I really think that the cave was where Smocke lived. Those names are Smocke's candidates. He crossed off Locke, because Locke is gone. Smocke already gobbled him up. Kate is not there, because, for some reason, she wound up on Jacob's side.

I have a feeling you might not be wrong about the wall belonging to Smocke. However, if he was recruiting his own candidates on that wall, I don't know why it wouldn't include Richard, since he apparently has always wanted him to join him. The name Linus was crossed off, so I don't know why Smocke would have done that, since Ben was so important to his loophole.

Yeah, but which Linus? Daddy dearest or Ben?
Or
Maybe he crossed Linus off because he already did the dirty job intended. Locke was crossed off because he also did the work. Was Littleton there and was she crossed off?

Littleton was crossed off, so perhaps whatever need Smocke had for her - other than getting her away from Aaron - has been fulfilled, hence her being left alone in the jungle. Yeah, but which Linus? Daddy dearest or Ben? That also brings to mind Michael's tease to Kristin that whole "families" of questions would be answered. Could that be a clue as to why these people were chosen by both sides?

Loved that episode. It was very exiting. And it had a lot of great scenes. - the funeral with Bens unexpected (for me) confession und Lapidus comment - the cave scene with Smokey and Sawyer - I so fear for Sawyers well-being. He should have gone with Richard. - the scene with the woman, who cried about her dead comrades and Ben trying to explain to her, what has happend ('you wouldn't believe me' ;D) - the teacher-scene: if I had to give Ben a subject to teach, it would have been history or literature - the Hurley/John scene on the parking place - very touching and so Hurley - Rose By the way: While watching this episode, I was remembered of my alltime favorite show Babylon 5, more precisely: the Vorlons and the Shadows and their fights. To me, Jakob and Smokey are like those two very powerful and old races, fighting and trying to proof a point and not really caring (anymore ??), if they cause pain and death to those, they recruit for their side. And that little boy, Smokey seems to be worried about, is like Lorien, the one being, that is older and more powerful than the Shadows and Vorlons and tries to bring them back to their senses. Maybe the little boy is someone/something that can control Jakob and Smokey (to some point) and he has decided, that he have to stop this. If thats the case, then there will be three parties roaming though the jungle in near future ;D Well, we will see - at least, this was a really good episode

One thing that is frequently shown is people falling forward or on their faces. This time it's Lccke falling when he's chasing the kid. I have dubbed the place the Island of the Clumsy. Sure at some point, people running through jungles or over brush might fall but after a while you should be getting better and not worse at it. I think it's sort of the writers' little bit of slapstick.

Everytime I rewatch this ep I keep thinking about if maybe Locke is in a wheelchair because of some other reason that maybe his father wasn't responsible thats the only reason I can think of him and Helen being together in the alternate reality or he could have just accepted what happened to him and didn't become totally obsessed with his dad? which was the reason she left him in the first place.

There's certainly some other reason, since Helen said they should bring her parents and his dad to a quickie wedding- and eagle eyed viewers saw that Locke had a pic of him and his dad at his cubicle. How no crash and a sunken island could have made a non psychotic Anthony Cooper is quite the puzzler. Perhaps since this Locke seemed to have a normal upbringing, something more generic happened to cripple him. The sideways reality seems to be lacking in tortured characters and dark secrets so far as it is.
