Zoe returned to the village, and back to hers to see Sawyer waiting for her, holding Charlie in his arms. He looked like he had been waiting a while.
"Hey." Zoe said as she stepped through the door. Sawyer didn't reply, just staring at her. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"I'm just going to put Charlie to bed. Then we are going to talk." He said sternly, and he got up from his seat, avoiding her gaze. Zoe sighed heavily, not really in the mood for an argument. She went over to one of the cabinits and took out a carton of wine, pouring herself one.
Sawyer joined her, and gestured her to come and sit at the dining table.
"Jesus - this is serious." Zoe muttered under her breath as she took a seat. Sawyer made to speak first, but Zoe interrupted.
"Look - I'm sorry about earlier. It's just, John was the only one who could really understand, he is the only one who has experienced the same thing. And - there were other things too. That I thought only he could answer, because of Jacob. But anyway, yeah, I said I was going to tell you what happened after I spoke to him, and I am. I saw the eye of the island Sawyer. Remember when John mentioned it? I saw it Sawyer, and I had to ask John about it, about what happened when it happened to him-" She started to ramble.
"Woah there sweet cheeks." Sawyer interrupted. "That's not what I wanted to talk about." Zoe gave him a look of puzzlement.
"Then what did you want to talk about?" She asked aprehensively.
"This isn't working out. Being here. I can deal with this anymore." Sawyer began.
"W-w-what?" Zoe stammered in disbelief. "Are you...are you breaking up with me?"
Sawyer looked up at her with a cretfallen expression on his face, there was a momentary pause.

"No! No way!" she screamed.
"Oh well, then i'll just have to do this!" he said turning to the keyboard.
"No!" she cried. "Stop!" she screamed. "I'll do it!"
"Good." he said turning back around and uncuffing her hands free. "If you do this. You will be free from us. Free from your powers. I know its something you want and in that briefcase." He pointed. "Is the antidote." Sophie looked over, and then Nathan handed her, her gun back. "You have three days to do it. You don't then i'll just push this little button and its goodbye to Molly. Got it?" he asked. Sophie nodded holding back her tears. Chris stood behind her then grabbed her arm and used some kind of gun injection thing on her.
"Ouch!" she yelled.
"Now don't even think about running away again, because we can track you down now!" Chris whispered in her hear before knocking her out cold.

Mel hugged her knees and lowered her head. She couldn't stop the tears from coming so she huddled next to William's bed and cried.
Christian came warily to the door, "What's wrong?" he asked but didn't come into the room.
"He's so beautiful. And he's grown so much." she said reffering to her son who slept peacefully in his bed. "I never thought I would see him again."
Guilt flashed over Christian's face. He came into the room and kneeled in front of her. "I'm sorry darling." he said softly. "I forgot that you wouldn't remember having him back here. You were torn up the first time and now you have to go through it again."
Mel looked up at him when he called her darling. She wasn't sure why but for some reason it was oddly comforting.
"Why can't I remember you?" she whispered.
Christian bowed his head, "I can only guess that I'm being punished for something but I'm lost to what it could be."
"Then both of us must be being punished."
"Did you speak with Jacob?" Christian asked.
"Yes, he said that he still needed me for something, so he brought me back. And that he had made me stronger but took away my memories as a payment of sorts."
"I don't understand."
"Neither do I. But he told me something else. None of the other inhabitants of this island are going to die Christian. We can't be killed, he'll just bring us back."
"He said that?" Christian said, surprised.
"He did, but I also saw it."
"How?"
"Sophie, Richard, and John Locke." Mel said looking away from him.
"You killed them?"
"Only for a bit. You saw John earlier. I shot him in the chest multiple times and he doesn't have a scratch on him."
"So we are unable to die." Christian mused. "So much for this war."
"We'll be fighting it forever it this continues."
"Come on." Christian said as he stood and offered her his hand.
Mel looked at it hesitantly.
"Please? I'm not going to hurt you Mel."
Mel studied him and could tell he was being sincere. She still wasn't sure what to think about her so called husband but she felt he was on her side at least.
Christian led her outside into the moonlight.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"Just for a walk around the courtyard. I think we've both been through enough stress, now we need to try to relax if only for a few minutes." Christian smiled.
Against her better judgement Mel smilled back. They made small talk as they strolled around the courtyard and Mel found herself willingly forgetting the events of the past two days.
As they walked they didn't notice they were being watched.
Ben stood at his living room window looking out into the dark. He could plainly see Mel and Christian walking together by the light of the moon. Every so often Christian would say something that would cause Mel to smile softly. Ben's expression was unreadable. He still held Mel's wedding ring in his right hand. The longer he watched the pair the tighter he gripped it until he felt the diamond cut into his skin and release a trickle of blood.

"Sophie.......Sophie" Sophie started to stir as she opened her eyes she saw a shadow above tapping at her cheeks, "Sophie can you hear me!" the voice, her vision became clearer as she looked up noticing Richard.
"Wh....what happened?" she asked sitting up. She looked around noticing they surrounded around jungle.
"Are you ok?" he asked.
"My head.... How did we get here?"
"I dunno they must of dragged us out here. What happened? They knocked me out. Did they hurt you?"
"No...." she said struggling to get up.
"Hey.... take it easy!" Richard said helping her. "We have to go and warn Ben."
"No! We can't." she said in a panic tone.
"Why? These people are dangerous you know that."
"I have to do something first." she said. "Don't ask me what? or why? Just let me do this Richard."
"Ok..... so what do we do now?"
"We go back home and say nothing!"

Emma, Jack and Juliet finally arrived back in the village and marched straight to Ben's door. Jack happened to glance behind him and was surprised to see his father and Mel strolling in the moonlight after the hostility Mel had shown towards him. He shrugged and focused on the business at hand.
"Are you sure you're up for this?" he asked Emma.
She shook her head vigorously. "Absolutely."
Ben immediately answered Jack's knock. "Hello, Jack." He seemed distracted. His house was silent and dark. Jack ushered Emma into Ben's home, and Juliet followed close behind.
"I already know why you're here," Ben spoke up. "Mel told me."
Emma raised an eyebrow. "Then tell us who took our baby, and where we can find them." She found it hard to control the increasing anger she felt.
Ben paced the room, deep in thought. "The Orchid crew originally worked for me. When Sayid broke in and killed the three scientists, all of the former experimental subjects" - Emma cringed at these words - "escaped. I encountered one of them not long after, and he told me none of the scientists had survived. I took him at his word, and didn't investigate further - I had bigger things to deal with." Ben's gaze flickered to the window, where Christian and Mel were still strolling and chatting. He continued in an icy voice devoid of emotion. "What they've done since then has not been under my orders. I don't know why they took your baby, but I imagine it was done out of revenge for killing their colleagues."
Emma glowered at Ben and walked towards him until she stood inches away. "But you must know where they've gone," she demanded.
Ben shrugged, unconcerned. "I might have an idea where they fled. But you'll have to do something for me, first."
Emma screamed at him. "They took my baby! I'm not going to traipse all over this bloody island on your behalf, Ben! TELL ME WHERE TO FIND HIM!" Jack pulled Emma away from Ben, worried she might get violent. She fell on the couch and started sobbing. Juliet wrapped a comforting arm around her and glared at Ben.
Jack took over the interrogation. "What do you have in mind, Ben?" he asked coolly.
Ben looked Jack straight in the eye. "Sophie is still missing, and now Richard is too. Find my wife, and I will help you find your baby.
"We won't do it!" Emma cried between sobs.
Ben smiled wickedly in response. "Then you won't get your baby back. It's your choice, Emma. I"m the only one that can help you."

The next morning Mel stood on her front porch taking in the fresh air. She pondered last night and her walk with Christian. She still didn't remember being with him but she felt she was beginning to understand how she could have fallen for him again.
She sighed, it was all so confusing. But after his intital anger Christian had calmed and seemed willing to help her through it. He'd even slept on the couch the night before so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable in her bed.
Mel saw Ben leave his house and start in her direction.
There was her roadblock. Ben. Just watching him walk towards her with his focused stare made her realize how much she was in love with him. Yes, she remembered all of the horrible things he had done to her but then she had done her fair share of horrible things as well.
She thought back to the first time she had met him when Ethan had just brought her to the island. She had thought he was arrogant and a bit of a tyrant. She had been right but she never could have guessed that she could love a person like that. And she had already been pregnant with his child. He knew he had her from the very beginning.
Mel shook the thoughts out of her head. He was married. It had been one thing to be with Ben while he was still messing around with Sophie. If she was honest with herself, she thought that Ben would never choose. That he would string the both of them along forever. But then he married Sophie.
'What happened to make him choose?' she thought to herself. 'Why would he suddenly make the decision to abandon her?'
Mel glanced down at her hands and noticed that the spot where she had previously worn her wedding ring was a touch paler than the rest of her hand. Then it hit her and she gasped.
"Oh my God." she said outloud as Ben stepped up the stairs. She stared at him with wide eyes and he regarded her carefully.
"Mel?" he inquired.
"Why did I marry Christian?" she whispered to him.
Ben blinked slowly then looked away.
"It wasn't my choice was it? I would never have married him while I still felt for you."
Ben shook his head, "It was Jacob's decision. He forced you to marry your husband."
Mel felt faint. How could she not have remembered that? And she had been starting to trust Christian.
"That is why you married her." Mel said quietly.
"What?" Ben asked.
"You married Sophie because I was taken by someone else. You thought there would never be another chance with me, so you went to her."
"That is not true." Ben defended. "I love Sophie."
"But you loved me as well. You told me all the time. You would have been happy to contonue with the both of us, playing your game as usual."
Ben's eyes grew icy,"You don't know what you are talking about."
Mel noticed his instant defensiveness and the slight panic in his eyes. "I think I do." she glanced down at his hand which was wrapped with white gauze. "What happened to your hand?"
Ben jerked his hand behind his back, "Nothing. I didn't come over here to defend my marriage. My wife will be home soon and I need to show you something before she gets here."
Mel shrugged, "Fine, keep lying to me. But I know how you felt for me and those feelings don't go away easily."
Ben just stared at her, his face purposely devoid of emotion.
"Okay." she sighed. "What do you need to show me?"
Ben looked the obvious confusion in her eyes before speaking, "Come with me."

Back at home after a sleepless night, Jack and Emma brainstormed the best way to find Sophie and Richard over breakfast.
Emma thought out loud. "The satellite phone picked up a bug on Richard before the batteries died. If we could figure out how to juice it up again, we could locate him fairly easily. Assuming he still has the bug planted on him, that is."
"That's also assuming he and Sophie are together," Jack reminded her. "It's worth a try, but where are we going to find batteries for this thing?"
Emma sighed. "We need Sayid. He would know how to get around this." She thought for a moment. "Wait a minute...Ben's briefcase files contained plans for the Tempest - I think it was a power station. If we can find the Tempest, we can charge the phone's batteries!"
Jack smiled warmly at her. "I hope Desmond inherits your cleverness."
"And your good looks!" Emma grinned and kissed Jack. "Let's go!"
They jumped up from the kitchen table and ran for the stables. If finding Sophie meant getting her baby back, Emma wasn't wasting a precious moment.

Sophie reached home finding the place empty, "Oh no" she gasped, searching frantically for Molly. "They've took her!" she screamed in a panic.
"Who?"
"Nathan, Chris! They said they will kill her and everyone else."
"What?"
"Molly?" Sophie called out looking around.
"Sophie look!" said Richard pointing at the window, seeing Juliet pushing Molly on the swings.
Sophie gasped "Thank god," she whispered in her breath as she went over to Juliet. Juliet was shocked to see Sophie had returned. "Molly...." Sophie said swooping her up in her arms and holding her, kissing her cheek. She turned to Juliet, "Where's Ben? Why isn't he looking after Molly."
"He went off with Mel." Juliet replied. Sophie stood not happy what she just heard. "Ben's called a search party for you and Richard...."
"Well he can cancel it now." she sighed. "Thanks for looking after her." Sophie said looking around the village she hurried back to her home, protecting her daughter. Closing the door behind her she looked over to Richard.
"I think you need to tell me whats going on!"

Juliet ran immediately to Jack and Emma's home and found it empty. She headed for the stables next, only to find both horses had gone. They had left for the Tempest, not realizing that Sophie had already made it safely to the village on her own.
*******
Emma tied the horses to a tree and left them to graze. The heavy door to the Tempest had been left ajar; Jack easily pushed it open. They walked down the long corridor cautiously. Outside one of the rooms they heard two unfamiliar voices.
Puzzled, Emma whispered in Jack's ear. "According to Ben's files, the station is supposed to be unmanned. Who are they?"
Jack shook his head. "I don't know. Let's wait and listen."
"What if they find us here, Jack? It could be trouble..."
"Get your gun ready." he whispered back. "Just in case."

"What is this place?" Mel asked as she followed Ben into a small building about half an hour away from the village.
"It's a monitoring station for the island. Much like the one you blew up with the Hydra." Ben answered.
Mel rolled her eyes, "Don't tell me that you're still sore about that."
"The Hydra was valuable."
"Yes, and so was the life of our son. I'll never regret it."
"Sit down please." ben said offering her a chair in front of the large bank of monitors.
"Who are we going to watch?" Mel said as she sat down.
"No one on the island. I wanted to show you something that came into my possession shortly after I left the island. It was on the freighter that Sayid commandeered."
"Why would I need to see that?"
"It's of Christian." Ben said shortly as he qued the recording.
Mel watched as one of the small screens flickered to life. She saw a small empty room with an examining table in the middle. She wondered what Ben was playing at until the door opened from the outside and Christian walked in, closing it behind him.
Mel heart beagn to beat faster when she saw who Christian held in his arms.
"William." she whispered.
Ben laid his hand on her shoulder as they watched Christian place their son on the table. He then pulled open a drawer and reached inside.
Mel jumped out of her chair when she saw that he held a syringe.
"No." she said faintly as she got as close to the screen as she could.
Christian cleaned a small area on William's thigh and inserted the needle. William gave a small yelp of pain.
"What is he doing?" Mel cried. She turned back to Ben and saw that his face betrayed the same sick feeling she felt. "Ben?"
He didn't answer her and she turned back to the screen in time to see Christian place the syringe back into the drawer, pick up William and leave the room.
Mel collapsed into the chair, "What was that? What did he inject into him? Is something going to happen to William?"
Ben took her hand and kneeled in front of her, "I don't know Mel. There could have been any number of things in that syringe. We weren't able to find out what it was but Sayid did say that one of the needles he found held the Dharma logo."
Mel's eyes widened, "Why did you show me this?"
Ben looked down for a moment before looking back up at her, "Because I wanted you to know what kind of man your husband is. I wanted you to know what he did to our son. What he could still do."
"If you knew about this, why did you allow William and Bella to come into my house where you knew he was?"
Ben shook his head, "I didn't, I wouldn't have. It was Sophie, she brought them back to you. If I had it my way they would have remained with me until this was resolved."
Mel shuddered to think what Ben meant when he used the word, "resolved".
"Oh God, you don't think he could have been doing the same thing to Emma all this time do you?"
Ben's face fell, "I don't know love, but it's a possibility."
Desmond suddenly flashed into Mel's mind when Ben used Desmond's old endearment for her. She hadn't seen him in a while, she would have to find out where he went off to.
"We should go." Ben said as he helped her from the chair and led her to the door. "Make sure you don't tell Christian about this."
"I'm not going to tell him anything." Mel said solidly.
"Good. You're a born fighter Mel. Don't forget that."
Mel found his choice of words odd but brushed the feeling off, "I'll protect them Ben, our kids."
"I know you will." Ben smiled.
"And if I need you're help?" Mel asked.
"I would never turn my back on my children Mel." he said as she followed him outside.
'Of course not.' Mel thought eyeing his bandaged hand and having a pretty good idea how he had hurt it. 'But you sure found it easy to turn your back on me didn't you? Too bad you're lying to youself.'

"Nothings going on!" she hesistated holding molly,
"Then what are you on about these people killing everyone?"
"I didn't....." Richard just looked at her not believing her.
"Sophie! Richard!" Ben said as he walked in sensing some tension between them. "Whats going on?" he asked.
"Nothing" Sophie replied, placing Molly down on the floor with a huddle off toys. Then getting up to hug Ben.
"Please tell me your staying." he asked.
"Yes..." she smiled as she rested on his shoulder and tear fell down her cheek at the thought of what shes going to do. Richard felt awkward as said his goodbyes and left them be. They both stood there for a few moments just holding each other, not saying a thing. Sophie closed her eyes and relaxed, it was time to tell Ben what was going on!
"Ben......"
Ben pulled away and looked at her, but in a confused way, seeing she had cried.
"Don't say anything just listen." He was more confused for the fact she hadn't spoken. She was talking to him through her mind. "If you can hear me stroke my tears away." Ben smiled and did what he was asked. "I'm being watched.......They found us Ben. Charles Widmore has found us." Ben still remained calm. "Two of his men our at The tempist." She moved so that she was resting her head on his shoulder again. "They gonna use the gas on everyone if i don't do something for them............and if i do it. I'm free. Free from all of this. I can be me again. The person who had no idea any of this exsited." She looked up to Ben, he could see she had been crying. "They want me to kill you." Ben still remained calmed, and looked like he was loved up seeing his wife return. "Now tell me you love me......"
"I love you." he sighed as he kissed her, wiping her tears. Sophie rested on him as he held her. Inside he was angry, not of Sophie but that charles widmore had found them. But on the outside he remained calm Benjamin Linus.
.............................................................
"Anything yet?" Nathan shouted over to Chris,
"No just a reunion hug." Chris replied watching on a little screen,
"Keep watching!" Nathan said as he walked over. "She's not got long left."

"Who are they talking about?" Emma whispered to Jack. They crouched with their backs to the wall by the open door where the unfamiliar voices came from, listening intently.
"I don't know," he whispered back. "But hand me the phone. Let's get this charged and get out of here as soon as we can."
Emma nodded and reached into the back pocket of her pants for the satellite phone. She pulled it out too quickly and, in her rush to hand it to Jack, it slipped like a hot potato out of her hand and clattered noisily to the floor. Emma froze in terror and locked eyes with Jack. He met her gaze steadily, his mind working fast to react to the situation.
"We've got no choice - run!" Jack yelled. Emma took off for the entrance to the Tempest. Jack grabbed the phone and took off after her. They didn't quite make it to the door.
"Stop right there!" Chris and Nathan stood in the hallway with automatic guns - hardly a match for Emma and Jack's handguns - aimed squarely at Jack's back. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" Nathan yelled.
Emma turned around first, her hands held over her head. She met Jack's eyes. "I'm sorry!" she mouthed to him.
Jack slowly turned around to face the men with guns. "We live on this island." Jack responded. "We'd like to know who the hell you are!"

Mel went up the steps of her house, her mind full of thoughts. She replayed the conversation she'd had with Ben as the walked back to the village.
"How am I going to face him knowing what he has done to William?" Mel asked Ben as they entered the village.
"I think you're forgetting that you are remarkable actress Mel. You convinced the plane survivors I had held you captive and even got one of them to fall in love with you. You're good at deception."
"Well, I learned it all from you." Mel chuckled.
Ben took her hand and kissed it chastely, "I have faith in you." he smiled. "Be strong."
Mel looked at her house, "It's all going to change now isn't it? Sophie is coming back and we won't be able to speak to each other."
"It will be different. She doesn't seem to trust me around you. But if you need something I want you to come to me you understand?"
Mel nodded, "I will."
"Good, now just keep an eye on Christian and everything will be fine." Ben said giving her hand a final squeeze before releasing her and walking toward his house.
Mel had watched him enter his own home and as he shut the door something told her that Sophie was indeed back. She sighed and opened the door to her own house.
Christian was in the kitchen fixing lunch and her gaze hardened as she watched him. How dare he harm her son and then act like he had done nothing and was the perfect husband.
She didn't question what Ben had told her, after all he had video footage to back it up. And she trusted Ben, they had a strong connection with their children and she knew Ben wanted them safe.
Mel placed a smile on her face and walked into the kitchen ready to begin another charade.
Back in his home with Sophie safe Ben stood in front of his bookshelf. One watching him would guess he was scanning the titles but he was merely thinking. He was pleased with Mel's reaction to the video of Christian. She had acted just as he knew she would, her impulse to believe everything he said falling right into place. He had told them he could sway Mel to his side and they hadn't believed him, but he had been right.

Nathan and Chris herded Emma and Jack into a windowless room in the Tempest station no bigger than a large closet and locked them in. The room was completely dark, and even after their eyes adjusted they could barely see each other's outline.
Jack felt around the walls and ceiling for any kind of opening or vent. He found one on the ceiling, but it was tightly screwed shut. Without any kind of tools, it would be impossible to pry open.
Jack slumped to the floor and put his head in his hands, concentrating intently. "We will find a way out of here," he muttered.
"In the meantime," Emma said slyly. "There's plenty of things we could do in a dark closet..."
"Are you serious?" Jack replied incredulously. "Now?!"
"Well...yeah, I am!" Emma responded. She kissed Jack with a sudden burst of passion, and he kissed her back with equal ardor. Very soon, they forgot everything that had happened in the past few days and the scene of their captivity unexpectedly became the scene of a physical intimacy they had not shared for a very long time.

"Sawyer!" Zoe persisted impaitently.
"No, I'm not breaking up with you." He replied gravely."
"Then what are you talking about? What's not working?" Zoe asked still concered.
"Being on this island. With all that's going on. I know I decided to stay behind. To stay here. But I really think it is best for us to go back to the real world. Civilisation." Sawyer replied. Zoe didn't nothing but stare at him for a while, thinking over what he had said.
"What do we have to go back to?" Zoe asked, taking Sawyer's hand. "We have no family back there, no jobs, no clean record. Especially after the others have already gone back. Won't they find it strange if you return? There are going to be so many questions we can't answer James."
"Look sweetie, I was a con artist back in the day, I am sure I can swindle up a couple of fake passports and I.Ds." Sawyer replied.
"Is that the life you really want? A good home, boring every day jobs, no excitement. No adventure?" Zoe asked.
"No danger..." Sawyer added. "You and Charlie would be safe."
"Trust me Sawyer, nothing is going to happen to me, and well, anyone would have to get through me to get to Charlie, and that would just be impossible." Zoe replied.
Sawyer sighed.
"Well, at least, just think about it, okay?" He asked.
"I promise." Zoe replied sweetly and pecked him on the lips. "You think about it too." She then stood up and started to walk out of the room.
"I'm going to bed, I'm really tired and in dire need of some rest. I'll catch you later okay?" Zoe finalised. Sawyer nodded, taking a sip of his drink and watched her leave the room before going up to the bookshelf to choose something to read.
