This is the show we waited nine months and six episodes for. No matter what happens later on, this will go down as the final Michael-centric showcase in Lost history. So this is an historic night for us, Michael and Ben- and it had better not be a deadly night, like the ABC promo is claiming. “Dr. Linus” Written by Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz Directed by Mario Van Peebles.
Ben deals with the consequences of an uncovered lie.

Here are three rather telling comments I found around the web. From TV Guide Magazine earlier today, at www.tvguidemagazine.net/hot-list/Here's a live tweet during the ep from Zap2it's resident Lost blogger, Ryan, at twitter.com/Zap2itILostSFTonight's episode didn't show Ben Linus' demise. It showed his rebirth. And finally, a comment from a review on TV Overmind, at www.tvovermind.com/lost/lost-6-07-dr-linus-review/19863Somebody should just go ahead and give Michael Emerson an Emmy right now. In tonight's episode, Emerson proved that he is the greatest actor on television. Period. Take from all that what you will.

OMG. That scene in the jungle with Ilana, OMG, Michael was awesome. I almost broke down and cried. And I don't cry easily.
The flash sideways had so many parallels to Ben's life on the island: Getting manipulated by an authority figure. Being played by Locke as Flocke played him. Arzt getting screwed over again.
The only difference is that in the flash sideways, Ben isn't as ruthless as he was on island. He is a much humbler man with more realistic goals and gentler ambitions. When he tries to overreach his grasp, he gently steps back for the greater good.
And didn't he stare at Alex as if he knew her but yet couldn't place her? Like some of the Oceanic 6 have done in their flash sideways. I don't know about other people, but I have met people who have looked so familiar to me and they said I looked familiar to them, but when we checked over the facts and events in our lives, there was no way we could have met or known each other, yet, there was a familiarity, an instant recognition of the other person. Makes you think there might be more to parallel lives than is often believed.
And how about Jack's look he gave Ben at the end. Looks a lot like the look Smocke gave Kate.
On another note, I had been spoiled on the Alex knocking at his door scene, but the way it played out was NOTHING as it had been hinted at. So I wasn't really spoiled at all. It was much more satisfying than the spoiler hinted it would be.
And what his father said suggested that they might not have left during the big evacuation in 1977, that they left later. They did a great job in making the actor look really old too.

I'm calling it right now - Michael and the rest of us are about to be proven right about Ben being good after all. If he dies, he will die a hero's death- and this was chapter 1 of Ben's redemption. And who wants to bet that his returning "old friend" will have something to do with that?

Perhaps the most important development is that this is the first time the Man In Black's tactics failed. We saw him take advantage of Ben, Sawyer, Claire and Sayid and exploit their desires, and they all took him up on it. Yet for the first time so far, someone rejected him, and it was his original puppet - all because Ilana saw fit to give him what he really wanted the most. After six weeks where the monster triumphed, this may have been the beginning of the end for him, especially if Ben does become the big hero. And since we'll be rewatching one certain scene for a while, here's the YouTube clip of the moment that may have turned everything around, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fCrFXqVAVoOr, here it is:

It pulls at the emotional heart and reminds me of the Frank performance from Jumping Off Bridges - I'm emotionally exhausted and reveling in the best performance EVER

AAAHHH!!! I've waited for this episode like a month, I finally saw it and it's not just what I was expecting, it's more! The scene with Ilana in the jungle and Ben saying "Because he's the only one who'll have me" broke my heart to a million pieces... I seriously thought that 1) she was going to shoot him instead of letting him escape once she had a clear shot or 2) Ben was going to shoot Ilana and escape. Wow both wrong, and I believe he'll finally be redeemed! Funny because he was trying to deceive her about "psychics", and then I guess he finally understood that he was doomed anyway and he might as well tell the truth for once... The flash sideways, so far the one I liked the best, strange to see that he's such an amazing guy here! Great teacher, caring about the kid's education, yet this "alternate" Ben is a lot like Island Ben... except that Dr. Linus took the "etically/morally/emotionally right" decitions in this timeline in a similar situation. Island Ben chose power over his daughter... Alternate Ben chose the welfare of his favorite student over power... He could have been the principal, and if Alex would ask him why would the former principal ruin her chances to go to Yale, he could have lied, as usual, and more than likely she would have believed him. Also, strange to see he's a loving son taking care of his old, sick father who we knew as such a horrible man! Which brings me to my weekly questions 1) Roger mentioned the Dharma Initiative and the island. Did he mean THE island? Because I thought these flash sideways were the alternate world of what would have happened if the bomb actually exploded... Meaning, the island sunk in the late 70's (we saw the island under water in LAX 1). So does that mean that Ben and his dad escaped the Island before it went off like Charlotte and Miles did? I truly loved this episode, I've only seen once all the episodes of this season but Dr. Linus is soooo going to my ipod to be watched over and over AND OVER again hehehe By the way I think Michael's performance in this episode is a direct ticket for at least another Emmy nomination

First of all, thanks Bobdoc for having given to me the courage to wait without looking at spoilers... And... OMG, Michael was amazing!!!! This man is a genius, best actor ever....I know that as a fan, i'm not very objective, but I needed to express my admiration ;D And Ben's redemption was for me totally unexpected at that time of the season...and the first fail of the Man in Black too, especially with Ben...I always hoped that Ben would become a kind of hero...now I hope the writers will continue following this way.

As a passionate lover of badass/manipulative genius Ben, I haven't been the biggest fan of his S6 story arc, but last night Michael totally won me to it So awesome.... I guess he can win me to everything he wants And yes, they need to give him an Instant Emmy right now. I hope we haven't seen the last of ALT Dr.Linus, he's so adorable, I want to marry him Did you get the Saw reference? The vid got removed.
