The Emmys is just a competition. It may even be a political (not foreign affairs type, but show business type) competition. The actors don't take these things seriously. It's not a backstabbing competition. The award this year went to Terry. Michael was disappointed, because I am sure he wanted it as well. But I can assure you that later in the evening they all went to a party together and enjoyed themselves tremendously. Michael and Terry are professionals and by Terry acknowledging Michael , we saw what a great guy he was and that those two are friendly. EdithI hope that so all and was, trust me. But I feel in my heart that all differently. Professionalism it is good, but it will not cure soul's anguish Years ago, I, too, was an actor. There were competitions. Some I won, some I lost. There was no problem with seeing the winner eye to eye at the party. Now, I grant you, I was a small-time actor. Not quite professional. However, the wanting to win is there. You accept that you lost. Life goes on. And, I am still friends with those who won.

Why shame on Michael? He didn't do anything bad. I think he meant it's a shame for Michael that he didn't win, not shame on him. Oh, that makes better sense.

OMG, with all this talk about winning vs losing, somewhere along the lines, I hit the 3,000 mark and didn't notice it.

All saw that Michael suffers the true pain when he has closed his eyes for two seconds or not? Why anybody from his fans has not expressed the sympathy for him?Why all of you with the winner, but are nobody with Michael?

Years ago, I, too, was an actor. There were competitions. Some I won, some I lost. There was no problem with seeing the winner eye to eye at the party. Now, I grant you, I was a small-time actor. Not quite professional. However, the wanting to win is there. You accept that you lost. Life goes on. And, I am still friends with those who won. I am struck here than. All saw that Michael suffers the true pain when he has closed his eyes for two seconds or not? Why anybody from his fans has not expressed the sympathy for him?Why all of you with the winner, but are nobody with Michael? We are all with Michael. We all felt that he should have been the winner. Here's the politics: Terry was up for the award 2 years ago and lost to William Shatner. Terry has no Emmys at all, Michael has one. I can't tell you that my theory is 100% foolproof, but I am quite sure that those things weigh in when voting is cast for two great actors. And yes, Michael did a great job with the Ben character. He acted with a chair, for heaven's sake. But Terry was also excellent with the Locke character. Feeling sorry for Michael doesn't help him. He is a strong man. He could not have survived show business if he were not a strong man. It is a backstabbing business. The award ceremonies are piece of cake. Try auditioning. Try sitting through an open audition and you see the person before you going for the part you want. Then you go up and you ace the part. You even get applauded. Then there are the callbacks. There's that person who was not so good again, plus some others. You can tell by the way the audition is going that you are one of the lead candidates. Once again, you ace the audition. The shmoe who was not even 1/2 as good as you is still is not up to par. Then you get the call: Sorry, we cast shmoe in the coveted part, but there's this bit part that we would like you to take on. We think you'd be great in it. Or, the call just says sorry. And you want to know why shomoe gets the part? Because she looks better with the other lead actor than you do. Now THAT HURTS. The case that I just described is very typical. Michael survived loads of those. He is a strong man, believe me.

I know, that he is the strong person. And he will find in himself forces for to go forward, to work and to win. But I saw that his pain was real and he was not ready for it. This torments me. And his wife has not taken his hand for he has understood that he is not lonely. What heavy day! I regret that Michael does not know, how I sympathize for him.

It was a pain of disappointment, not of hatred for Terry.

It was a pain of disappointment, not of hatred for Terry. I never spoke that Michael hates for Terry. We do not know how they actually concern to each other. That they speak is are only of a word. But now it will be psychologically more difficult to work Michael with Terry, I am sure in it. Though Michael never will show it and will not tell in interview. If has won someone another (not Terry!) , I think, Michael would not look such disappointed

I think it really sells Michael short to say that he is agonizing over Terry's victory. In one interview after another, Michael talks about how much he loves acting -- not winning awards, not recognition or the love of fans, but the art of acting. Edith is absolutely right, he would not have stayed in it this long if he truly cared that much about winning awards.
Everything that I have read or heard about Michael indicates that he is a pretty level-headed guy. He seems to like that Lost has so many fans, not because it makes him feel popular, but because it means he is doing a good job at what he loves best, and that he is accomplishing what he is trying to do with the character.
I read his on-camera reaction totally different than you did, greenleaf. I didn't see a man swallowing back his tears, although I'm sure there was a twinge of disappointment which anybody would have felt. I really felt like he was taking a moment to savor the applause he was getting (because it was applause at Terry's mention of "the great and glorious Michael Emerson). If you think he will have a hard time working with Terry now, you must think he is a pretty selfish and petty person. I don't think you should feel sorry for him. I agree with Edith that Michael probably feels that if he couldn't win, he is glad that his friend and colleague did win.
I am happy for Terry and I don't feel the least bit disloyal to Michael. I love them both!

I´m disappointed but I´m glad for Terry too because he deserves it. they like each other that´s for sure. They once said that they really enjoy the scenes they have together. the pic is cute
