I think it really sells Michael short to say that he is agonizing over Terry's victory. In one interview after another, Michael talks about how much he loves acting -- not winning awards, not recognition or the love of fans, but the art of acting. Edith is absolutely right, he would not have stayed in it this long if he truly cared that much about winning awards. Everything that I have read or heard about Michael indicates that he is a pretty level-headed guy. He seems to like that Lost has so many fans, not because it makes him feel popular, but because it means he is doing a good job at what he loves best, and that he is accomplishing what he is trying to do with the character. I read his on-camera reaction totally different than you did, greenleaf. I didn't see a man swallowing back his tears, although I'm sure there was a twinge of disappointment which anybody would have felt. I really felt like he was taking a moment to savor the applause he was getting (because it was applause at Terry's mention of "the great and glorious Michael Emerson). If you think he will have a hard time working with Terry now, you must think he is a pretty selfish and petty person. I don't think you should feel sorry for him. I agree with Edith that Michael probably feels that if he couldn't win, he is glad that his friend and colleague did win. I am happy for Terry and I don't feel the least bit disloyal to Michael. I love them both! You are so correct. I never thought about this angle. He was choked up about being mentioned. I doubt that he expected that. "The great and glorious Michael Emerson..." What a tribute. I love Terry even more now. Look at Michael's face here, just as they announced Terry as the winner: He did not look upset. Terry gets up: Terry calls him the great and glorious Michael Emerson: The man was choked up by the admiration of his colleague.

I love them both! Let everyone will agree to differ. You too love Terry and I too love Michael. And a recognition for Michael not less important, than actor's action. So I think, i'm a pretty selfish and petty person. Michael first of all too the person, and then the actor. Not pity is necessary for Michael but understanding.

Carrie also looks thrilled in those pictures. I don't think she would have been so genuinely happy if she knew her husband was dying on the inside.

Without looking it up, who won last years Best Supporting Actor? I know that I don't know the answer to it. Winning it or not winning it doesn't change how brilliant Michaels performance was last season in Lost. He was recognised for his outstanding work, and sure it's disappointing for us fans that he didn't win but he wasn't the only brilliant actor to go home without an Emmy last night - that's just the way it is.

. "The great and glorious Michael Emerson..." What a tribute. I love Terry even more now. Me too... honestly I never knew much about Terry but that 30 second speech has done more for me than any amount of PR spin could ever do.

Congratulations to terry who won best supporting actor at the emmys. Shame for michael but at least lost got an award. Well done! ;D Why shame on Michael? He didn't do anything bad. not shame for michael. Praise for him. Its a shame he didnt win. But winning isnt everything is it? He doesnt need awards to prove how good he is. He shows that in his work.

Oh my! What a discussion here!? I'm sad because I really think that Michael deserved this Emmy. Ben is a great character, the best in Season 3 I think, and Michael is so excellent in portraying the man that he had to win. Yet, he did not. I was hurt by that and he was as well. But I'm also sure that the competition is not as important to him as his fans' love, which he has absolutely. I don't think there's such hatred among actors. Disappointment, for sure. Envy, could be. But that's the emotion of the moment. And yet, I think Terry is a great actor too. He was my favourite actor on LOST before Michael stepped in. ------------ One last thing- We should pack a self-made Emmy and send it to Hawaii, what about it? LOL ;D ETA: I looked at the pix Edith posted and it seems Michael was happy for Terry! That's great. And that's so much of him! ;D
