This HAS to be my last post in here (this thread)... this is getting to be ridiculous. Can the fall come any faster?? 2006-07-20 “Most amazing show Off-Broadway right now. Spring Awakening. Saw it tonight. An old play set to rock and roll music. Amazing. …It was a night filled with stars. In the audience was Kristen Johnston of Third Rock from the Sun, Michael Emerson from Lost, and Carrie Preston from My Best Friend's Wedding.” [Okay, I think we all know now what Carrie and Michael do in their free time – attend plays! ] meowsic26.livejournal.com/151187.html“ …After all, she married her husband, actor Michael Emerson, just two blocks from the Capitol. In 1998, a year after she played Cameron Diaz's sassy bridesmaid in 'My Best Friend's Wedding,' she recited her own vows on stage at Theatre Macon on Cherry Street. It was only fitting that Crisp [ Anyone?] performed the ceremony.” the-legend-of-bagger-vance.go2cinema.org/2006/05/06/“well, Lost has been one of my favorite shows for a long time now. it turns out the dude who plays "Henry Gale" or one of the others, is one of my friends. his name is Michael Emerson. he spent new years with my dad and i. he actually slept in my bed while i slept on the futon in the den. hes a really cool dude and i feel honored to know him.July 11 nyc was a blast!!! i met up with my buddy MICHEAL EMERSON from LOST. that was awesome!” www.xanga.com/cutie_author_chick10“Very cool ... a friend of mine, Michael Emerson, who lived in and did theatre here in Jacksonville, FL, fifteen plus years ago has got a six-episode stint as the "Other" that the gang captures (and apparently tortures) starting this week. He also did a famous serial killer part in The Practice (never saw it) and was the faux-bad-guy in the first Saw. Some of you New Yorkers may have seen him as Oscar Wilde in Gross Indecency. I know somebody on Lost!! Grin" [Someone else:] If your friend is the actor I'm thinking of, I thought his serial killer on The Practice was extraordinary--he was mesmerizing and terrifying. Later: "That's probably Michael ... we always joke that he has this "creepy" look which is perfect for serial killers and now ... an OTHER. He's immensely talented and a heck of a nice guy - I'm very happy for him that he's been so successful." Later: "PS ... My friend Michael Emerson (Henry Gale) is visiting Jacksonville for our local film festival in a few weeks. There's a reception for him at the Studio where I take playwriting classes that weekend and hope to get to see him again!” (-that was from some forum; sorry, lost the link) “I worked with Michael in New York many years ago and it's great to see such an incredibly talented actor doing so well. Henry Gale is a far cry from Oscar Wilde, but the performance is equally as enthralling. Keep up the good work, Michael.” www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=46017Dec. 29, 2000 “Seeing Stars: A Guide to Theater Hangouts” The writer visits “Joe Allen” on a Friday night: “In the back room, William Hurt sat happy and unbothered at the worst table in the house. A few feet away the actor Michael Emerson, who plays the oh-so-creepy psychopath on the ABC law drama ''The Practice,'' chatted with friends while a few terrified diners gazed in his general direction.” query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CE0DA1F38F93AA15751C1A9669C8B63&sec=travel&pagewanted=2“so, talked w/ my friend, michael emerson ("henry gale"), and he said it's all just a new ride at Universal Studios. just like the old "Jaws" and "Backdraft" one. wow. now that's a twist. i'll call him tomorrow, but i've a feeling his phone is probably tapped by ABC execs and he wont be able to divulge anything.” (-Jimmy from ComicNews Insider) groups.yahoo.com/group/firefly_nyc/message/8816“I keep hoping Henry will die . . . not because he's evil or anything, but because I used to know Michael Emerson personally (we weren't dear friends or anything, more like passing acquaintances in the Jacksonville theatre circuit) and it's hard to picture him as "Henry", when I already know him as Emerson. (Don't read anything into this. The man wouldn't know me if he saw me on the street. He was always the star of the play and I was the little techie running around that he never noticed)” [… gapes – the first even slightly negative thing I have heard about him.] forums.momswhothink.com/showthread.php?t=77569&page=3

henryrocks, I meant to thank you for compiling this latest batch of posts for the Personal Stories section. I wish the reality of hearing about the real-life Michael would help to abate the actor-crush-anxiety but it only makes it worse! You know how it is, sometimes you hear about the object of your admiration and they turn out to be not at all what you imagine them to be and your affection wanes. Not so with Michael! He just gets more and more interesting!!! and sweet!!
Add to my wish list a picture of Carrie and him at their on-stage wedding in Macon! They must have looked incredible. I bet the whole event was really original.
henryrocks, keep looking on those Blogs!!! Folks who work on the LOST set in Hawaii might just have a pic or two to share with us during the production of Season 3!!!!
tick tock tick tock till Oct . 4th

Aw, thanks I'm kind of dreading Season 3 starting up, though... Henry was so cool and enigmatic and darn-near perfect in Season 2. I'm afraid that the writers will do to him what they did to characters like Locke and Charlie, who really suffered writing- and characterization-wise as time passed. I don't know if I could stand watching the same thing happen to Henry. At least we know that no matter what, Michael will still be giving it his all. Kind of like Parminder Nagra as Neela in ER - sometimes great actors can make unfortunate material into good stuff. And looking at the choices they've made, the directors do seem to know what they've got with him. We'll have to see.

I KNEW I remembered reading something about him having 'Beatles' hair... lol. This is a good one. " This guy is from my hometown of Toledo Iowa, pop 2400 (give or take a few). He graduated with my brother in 1972 from South Tama County. Believe me, he was a major nerd in high school. Smart - drama club..... it is nice to see someone from our small rural town get this "famous". I do not think I would have recognized him. He used to have long "Beatle" hair, wire-frames & I remember a big nose. The old yearbooks never lie!!! All I can say is congrats to him for all his success & doing what he loves to do!!!! Keep watching him!!! Also - Michael if you see this - my brother was Bruce Benda - he skipped art class alot!!! LOL....." www.imdb.com/name/nm0256237/board/thread/43265520A few posts later someone asks her to post this picture from the yearbook, and she says her sister has the yearbook, and she'll try to figure out how to post it. She hasn't yet. Does anyone have an account with IMDB? Seeing his high school yearbook photo (or any other yearbook pics) would be priceless ;D His Imdb message board has a few other relevant posts... "Michael Emerson taught art for a short time at Flagler College, where I went to school in the 1980's. He has great charisma onstage, but he is very eccentric in person." Later: "Of course, I should have added that this is exactly why I found him so interesting!""I am an old friend of Michael's, from Jacksonville, Florida. We did shows together and he was my Shakesperean Acting instructor. I have long been wanting to get in touch with him and see how he is doing. How exciting to see him listing on IMDB. Best of luck Michael! Stacia Mattan (used to be Lietsch)" "I went to school with Michael. He is a wonderful guy and an extremely talented actor. I'd love to see him getting more principle roles in films. Although the stage is where I think he really shines."

"I don't watch LOST, but I do have a brush with fame to report. A guy I knew very well for years is currently on that show. His name is Michael Emerson and he plays Henry Gale. We did some plays together and he was also my Shakespeare coach at a University in Florida. Someone told me he is pretty creepy on that show....he isn't in real life. In fact, I always found him to be quite sexy in an artistic, intelligent way. [... do I even need to say anything? lol] I am so proud of him." www.hotmommagossip.com/messageboard/forum/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=81April 10, 2006 "I went to a fundraiser on Saturday night for a fledgling theatre company called blessed unrest. ....To fund all of this, they held what they called their "blessed unrest bawdy balkan bacchanal." ...The event was really nice. It was in a small performance space that had a lobby and theater area both open for the event. ...In addition to the entrance fee, other fundraising features of the evening included a raffle, silent auction and live auction. ... There were no celebrities present except for one: Michael Emerson of Broadway and Off-Broadway fame, and most recently of LOST fame. Yes, there was Henry Gale, freed from the hatch for one bacchanalian night. I was very very tempted to go over and gush, but I didn't want to go over and be just another pathetic LOST fan with no sense of his New York creds, so I spent a while racking my brain trying to remember all his theater work. By the time I felt I could say hello without looking like a 'tard he was engaged in a conversation with someone and I just felt it would be rude and crass to hover until they noticed me or, even worse, try and break into the conversation." [ACK, people, talk to him, talk to him!!! Easy to say, I suppose, but c'mon. Work with us here ] usenderoy.blogspot.com/2006/04/blessed-unrest.htmlAnyway, hope y'all are having a good day. Amidala, have you received any of those tapes you ordered, like the one where he and some other theatre people discuss a play for like an hour? I'm curious.

EEK! Oh Google, every time I think you have run dry... ;D *hops up and down with excitement* I believe this is yet again the Jimmy from ComicNewsInsider, who was gracious enough not only to provide a few great anecdotes from back in the day, but to provide pictures as well: "My Friend, the Other" Recognize this guy? Well, if you are among the gajillions who watch LOST, then you certainly did last night! I actually knew ahead of time that he was gonna be on, but it was waaaaaaaaaay cool to see him on one of my favorite shows. I've known Michael for...wow...almost 20 years I think! We lived in the same town and did theater together. Mostly working on stuff behind the scenes. Building sets, assisting on plays he directed or starred in, acting together on occasion, etc. He was that guy that we all would watch perform in awe. Every single one of us thought, "F***. This dude can flat out act!" And, I gotta say, one of the most knowledgeable people I know. I would often go to him for advice about monologues for auditions. I swear, I could ask him..."Hey, Mike...what's that monologue that starts with "Draw thy sword, that if my speech offend a noble heart...something like that?" Without missing a beat, he would reply, "Oh, that's one of Edgar's speeches in KING LEAR." He would know the show, who said it and where it came in the play! Yeah, he's that smart. Wanna fight about it?
We started working at the same theater and would hang out with the local theater folk often. I gotta say, we probably would have made a great buddy cop movie. He, the intellectual and I, the ghetto slang talking player. I remember one time, we were in his truck on our way somewhere. Me,being the punk that I was, used ghetto-esque slang all the time. If I saw a cop out of the corner of my eye, then I would always point it out to whomever was driving. In this case, Michael. So, I shout out, "Yo! 5-0!" (Pronounced FIVE-OH, not five-zero). Which, if you don't know, is slang for "the cops!" It derives from HAWAII 5-0. How that got to be ghettolicious, I'll never know. So, Michael hears me shout this out and steps on the gas thinking I meant for him to speed up to 50 mph. See? Comedy gold. We coulda been the next LETHAL WEAPON series!
You know how when you are around someone a lot, you pick up some of their speech or mannerisms? Yeah, it happened with both of us. I would find my speech quite heightened when I was in his presence. And,I guess I brought the 'hood out in him, because he actually seemed to pick up a thing or two that I said. I noticed that he would often greet people in front of me with a hearty "Wattup?!" Which, I always said. Sure, perhaps he was doing that just for my ego and because he knew I would find it amusing. But, part of me hopes that I was able to shine some gangsta on him!Pictures: jimmyaquino.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/memikeecollage.jpgYeah, that's us back in the day. Probably circa '91 or '92. I moved up to NYC in '94. If I remember correctly, he was either already here or moved up shortly after. We stayed in touch and would hang on and off. Both of us doing the whole acting thing. Him, quite a bit more successful, as you have probably surmised! [brags about his successes...] We hear this all of the time, but I actually mean it. This guy deserves every bit of success he achieves. He worked his a** off for years and earned it. So, respect his game, b*****! We still keep in touch and try to hang and do catch up when we can. Obviously, the man works! I couldn't be prouder or happier. Keep up the great work, Mike E. I look forward to teaching you new ghetto words whence next we knock back a few. Until then, I'll be watching." jimmyaquino.typepad.com/jimmys_juke_joint/2006/02/michael_emerson.html

Congratulations to Michael Emerson"When I was a young actor I decided to quit and get a normal job. I knew so many people who were much more talented than I was, and they still couldn't make a decent living at it. One of those people was Michael Emerson. He was arguably the best actor in the city. If he hadn't made it, how the hell could I? Emerson would spend a lot of time at my school giving us notes on the productions we were putting together. He was always encouraging, but he was also honest about what needed work. His criticism taught me more about acting than any class I've ever taken. I was excited when I got a small part in Romeo and Juliet one summer - I would get to work with him and some other talented actors. I was very nervous. I was just a teenager, not used to performing in front of 2000+ people, and I had to try and perform on their level. He went out of his way to help me and the other young people involved feel more comfortable. I'm telling you all this so you'll know why I was happy to hear that he won an Emmy on Sept. 8th for his recurring guest role on The Practice. Now he's got an offer to be a presenter at the televised Emmys. If he can make it, he'll be presenting with none other than Sally "you like me, you really like me" Field. How funny is that? I'm proud that someone who has spent so much of his life working his a*s off - and mentoring kids - got such a well-deserved reward." www.xkot.net/archives/000651.htmlSome comments posted: "Hello! As a fellow theatre arts student of Michael's at Drake University where we did our undergraduate work, Michael was and is unique in his approach to acting and was always exciting to watch onstage. He is also a very insightful director and goes out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable. We, the theatre arts class at Drake University, of 1976 a.d. are most proud of Michael and wish him well...and as always, "we'll be watching!!" -Marc Schwartz"
